Stephen Wiltshire’s Unbelievably Detailed Drawings Made From Memory (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

Stephen Wiltshire spoke his first words, ‘pencil’ and ‘paper’ at five years old. At the age of eight, the late British Prime Minister Edward Heath commissioned Wiltshire to draw the Salisbury Cathedral.  At 11 years old Wiltshire drew a perfect, intensely detailed picture of the London cityscape after a single helicopter ride. Perhaps it is not surprising that Wiltshire was diagnosed with autism, when he was three years old.

Should You Take A Vitamin Every Day?

You might be surprised at the answer.

As a kid, popping a single chewy, sugary multivitamin alongside breakfast was easy. But as an adult, navigating the world of vitamin supplements is more complicated. The sheer number of options available at the store, combined with confusing labels and a lack of nutrition knowledge, can turn the simple task of bettering your health into a seemingly impossible feat.

Exercise Is the Best Cure for Fatigue Caused by Cancer

Amy Schnitzler was tired.

Surgery and chemotherapy treatments for her breast cancer had knocked the energy right out of her and all she wanted to do was snuggle under the bedcovers all day.

But she got up, anyway.

“Even on my worst days, in terms of fatigue, if I just got up and did a little something, whether it be some light stretching, gentle yoga, just some yoga, that definitely made me feel better and it definitely made me able to greet the day,’ said Schnitzler, who is studying opera.

“It was just a matter of, ‘OK, I know you feel really tired right now, Amy. But if you just get up and do a little something, you’re going to feel better after’. And that has definitely been the case for me.”

Scientists have discovered an antibody that can powerfully neutralize many variants of the most common strain of HIV, opening up a door for researchers to explore treatment and prevention options for the potentially fatal virus.

Antibodies ― proteins created by our immune system that are in charge of spotting and neutralizing potentially harmful substances in our body ― are promising avenues for potential vaccines and treatments against the virus.

The new antibody, named N6, was isolated from the blood of a person with HIV. It managed to neutralize 98 percent of the HIV variants that researchers tested it on, including 16 out of 20 variants that are usually resistant to this kind of antibody protein.

If you’re scratching your head, you may be missing out on an important health clue. A spate of recent research suggests that your blood type—whether A, B, AB, or O—may influence your risk for a variety of health conditions, from cardiac disease to cancer.

The research is still early and scientists aren’t yet sure how to explain the connections. Although you can’t change your blood type, however, knowing about added risks can still be helpful.

Two Yazidi women and former ISIS sex slaves just won the EU human rights prize

Two Yazidi women and former ISIS sex slaves were awarded the European Parliament’s prestigious Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought on Thursday. The honor is given to those “who have made an exceptional contribution to the fight for human rights across the globe.”

Nadia Murad Basee Taha, 23, and Lamiya Aji Bashar, 18, were both enslaved by ISIS when their Iraqi village was attacked by militants on Aug. 3, 2014. ISIS militants rounded up groups of Yazidi men and murdered them, before enslaving scores of young women.

The families of Murad and Aji Bashar were either killed or enslaved, but the two women escaped, and have since become human rights activists, fighting human trafficking, Yazidi genocide and ISIS enslavement.

AND you think you are old

Received this in an email from a friend

.

forjames122yearsold1

Jeanne Louise Calment had the longest confirmed human Lifespan on record: 122 years and 164 days.

It seems that fate strongly approved of the way Madam Calment lived her life.
Jeanne was born in Arles, France, on 21st February 1875.

When the Eiffel Tower was built, she was 14 years old.

It was at this time that she met Vincent van Gogh.

’He was dirty, badly dressed and disagreeable’ she recalled in an interview given in 1988.
When she was 85, she took up fencing, and she was still riding on her bike when she reached 100.

When Jeanne was 114, she starred in a film about her life;

At 115 she had an operation on her hip, and at 117 she gave up smoking (having started at the age of 21 in 1896).

Apparently, she didn’t give up for health reasons,

But because she didn’t like having to ask someone to help her light a cigarette once she’d becoming almost blind.
In 1965, Jeanne was 90 years old and had no heirs.

She signed a deal to sell her apartment to a 47-year-old lawyer called André-François Raffray.

He agreed to pay her a monthly sum of 2,500 francs on the condition that he would inherit her apartment after she died.

However, Raffray not only ended up paying Jeanne for 30 years, but died before she did at the age of 77.

His widow was legally obliged to continue paying Madam Calment.
Until the end of her days, Jeanne retained sharp mental faculties.

When she was asked on her 120th birthday what kind of future she expected to have, she replied: ’a very short one.’

Quotes and rules of life from Jeanne Calment:

  • ’Being young is a state of mind, it doesn’t depend on one’s body.  I’m actually still a young girl, it’s just that I haven’t looked so good for the past 70 years.’
  • ’I’ve only got one wrinkle, and I’m sitting on it.’
  • ’All babies are beautiful.’
  • ’I’ve been forgotten by our good lord.’
  • ’I’m in love with wine.’
  • ’Always keep your smile. That’s how I explain my long life.’
  • ’If you can’t change something, don’t worry about it.’
  • ’I have a huge desire to live and a big appetite, especially for sweets.’
  • ’I never wear mascara; I laugh until I cry too often.’
  • ’I see badly, I hear badly, and I feel bad, but everything’s fine.’
  • ’I think I will die of laughter.’
  • ’I have legs of iron, but to tell you the truth, they’re starting to rust and buckle a bit.’
  • ’I took pleasure when I could. I acted clearly and morally and without regret. I’m very lucky.’

At the end of one interview, in response to a journalist who said he hoped they would meet again the following year:

She told him, ’Why not? You’re not that old, you’ll still be here.’

Jared Foran, an orthopedic surgeon in Denver, is a co-author of a new study called “Patient Perception of Physician Reimbursement in Elective Total Hip and Knee Arthroplasty” (PDF here). The authors surveyed 1,200 patients to see how much they thought orthopedic surgeons should make and what Medicare actually pays for a hip or knee replacement.
