A popular teacher who disappeared after a night of partying more than two weeks ago was seen driving alone away from a bar on surveillance footage that New Orleans police found.
Witnesses said they last saw Terrilyn Monette around 4 a.m. on March 2, in a parking lot talking to a man near the bar where she’d been celebrating her nomination for a teacher of the year award in her district. By daybreak, she and her black 2012 Honda Accord were gone.
The trail had gone cold until the Times-Picayune reported that New Orleans police found several stoplight cameras and security cameras on homes and businesses that show the 26-year-old at the wheel of her car around 5:15 a.m. the day she vanished.

Terrilyn Monette disappeared on March 2.

T.J. Lane, who appeared in court Tuesday morning wearing a t-shirt with the word “KILLER” in marker across his chest, will spend the rest of his life in prison for the murder of three teenagers at an Ohio high school.
Going against the recommendation of his counsel, Lane addressed the courtroom before learning his fate. He smiled periodically and showed little remorse for his actions.
“F— all of you,” he said, before raising his middle finger at the victims’ families, according to the Plain Dealer.

A 75-year-old woman was convicted Tuesday of second-degree murder for killing her teenage grandson last spring in her Detroit-area home, after jurors rejected her claim that she shot him six times in self-defense.
Sandra Layne cried quietly when she heard the verdict, which was delivered during the first full day of jury deliberations. She was also found guilty of using a firearm during a felony and likely faces at least 14 years in prison for the death of her grandson, Jonathan Hoffman.
Defense attorney Jerome Sabbota said later that Layne was “devastated” by the verdict.

A Chinese national who worked at NASA’s Langley Research Center has been arrested on a plane bound for Beijing on charges of lying to federal agents.
Bo Jiang made his initial appearance Monday in Norfolk federal court. It wasn’t immediately clear whether Jiang had an attorney.
U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf says Jiang wasn’t employed by NASA, but worked at the Hampton, Va. facility for the National Institute of Aerospace.
An affidavit says Jiang was under investigation for possible violations of the Arms Control Export Act.

Officials at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have faced harassment and personal threats since the death of well-known Internet activist Aaron Swartz, the university’s president said Tuesday.
In a letter to the MIT community, President Rafael Reif said he would publicly release documents about MIT’s role in the case after the university completes its own investigation into the matter.

The 26-year-old Reuters editor allegedly behind the hacking of the Los Angeles Times website was not a hacker. He said so himself.
“I’m not a hacker,” Matthew Keys allegedly wrote in an online chatroom he shared with members of Anonymous. “I’m an ex-employee.”
Federal prosecutors charged last week that Keys used his access as a former employee of the Tribune Co. to help a hacker deface the website of the Los Angeles Times in 2010. The Tribune Co. owns the paper as well as the Sacramento TV station where Keys had worked until he was fired — two months before the hacking incident.

Did you ever receive a text message from your wife or your boss and wish that it could be read to you in an unsettling British accent by a giant disembodied woman’s head against a stark black background?
Well, friend, that crazy dream of yours might just be closer to reality than you think. Researchers at the University of Cambridge have unveiled their latest progress on Zoe, a “digital talking head which can express human emotions on demand” with “unprecedented realism.” Gizmag pointed out the disembodied head to us.

Zoe is a project from Cambridge University, a floating head that can read sentences with matching emotion on her face. One day, the researchers hope that anyone will be able to scan his or her own face into the software. (YouTube: CambridgeUniversity)

Pakistan’s government passed a major milestone Saturday, with the parliament becoming the first democratically chosen body to finish its five-year term in a country that has faced three military coups and persistent political turmoil.
But after years of militant attacks, worsening electricity blackouts and faltering economic growth, the political party that took office five years ago on a wave of sympathy following the assassination of iconic leader Benazir Bhutto will likely find it more difficult this time to win voters to its side.

A portrait of Jesus that hangs prominently in an entrance way at a rural Ohio public school is in violation of the U.S. Constitution and should be removed, a federal lawsuit filed Thursday says.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio and the Madison, Wis.-based Freedom From Religion Foundation say the large portrait at Jackson Middle School unconstitutionally promotes religion. The two groups seek a court order requiring the school to remove the portrait and prohibiting its re-hanging or any substantially similar display in the future.
“The maintenance and display of the portrait has the effect of advancing and endorsing one religion, improperly entangling the State in religious affairs, and violating the personal consciences of plaintiffs,” the lawsuit says.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) released its wide-ranging “autopsy” report on Monday, admitting some of its shortcomings after losing the 2012 presidential election.
Coined the Growth and Opportunity Project, the document includes market research from voter focus groups around the country.
“Asked to describe Republicans, they said that the Party is “scary,” “narrow minded,” and “out of touch” and that we were a Party of “stuffy old men.” This is consistent with the findings of other post-election surveys,” the report states.
