A model of what will be the world’s largest religious monument was unveiled on Wednesday in Patna, India, by Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, reports the Times of India.

The proposed Virat Ramayan Mandir will dwarf others, as it will stand almost double the height of world-famous temple complex Angkor Wat in Cambodia, which is 215 feet high, according to India Today. Angkor Wat is the current holder of the title, “World’s Largest Religious Monument.”

The 190-acre site is already being readied for construction, which will commence soon, according to Acharya Kishore Kunal, who is the secretary of the group behind the project, Mahavir Mandir Trust. The complex will include 18 temples with high spires, with a jaw-dropping seating capacity of 20,000 people.

Rosh Hashanah 2013: The Jewish New Year Explained

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, is celebrated in 2013 from sundown on Sept. 4 to nightfall on Sept. 6. The Hebrew date for Rosh Hashanah is 1 Tishrei 5774.

Though Rosh Hashanah literally means “head of the year,” the holiday actually takes place on the first two days of the Hebrew month of Tishrei, which is the seventh month on the Hebrew calendar. This is because Rosh Hashanah, one of four new years in the Jewish year, is considered the new year of people, animals and legal contracts. In the Jewish oral tradition, Rosh Hashanah marks the completion of the creation of the world.

Rosh Hashanah is the beginning of the Jewish High Holy Days, or Yamim Noraim (the “Days of Awe”), and is followed 10 days later by Yom Kippur, the “day of atonement.” The Mishnah refers to Rosh Hashanah as the “day of judgment,” and it is believed that God opens the Book of Life on this day and begins to decide who shall live and who shall die. The days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are viewed as an opportunity for Jews to repent (teshuvah, in Hebrew) and ensure a good fate.

King David’s Palace Discovered? Archaeologists Find Huge Palace, Storeroom At Khirbet Qeiyafa Site

After many years of searching, Israeli archaeologists announced Thursday the discovery of a large palace and storeroom believed to have once belonged to the Biblical monarch King David.

“The ruins are the best example to date of the uncovered fortress city of King David,” lead researchers Yossi Garfinkel and Saar Ganor said, according to the Jerusalem Post. “This is indisputable proof of the existence of a central authority in Judah during the time of King David.”

The excavation was a joint project led by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Israel Antiquities Authorities that took place over seven years at Khirbet Qeiyafa, roughly 18 miles southwest of Jerusalem, according to a news release from the Israeli Antiquities Authority (IAA).

Finding evidence of King David, who is believed to have ruled over the Kingdom of Judah during the 10th century BCE, is a common goal of researchers in Israel because of his prominent role in Biblical history, the New York Times notes. A palace could help prove that King David was an impressive man, as the Bible suggests, and not a small chieftain.

Celestine V, 13th-Century Pope, Examined; Skeleton Rules Out Murder By Head Trauma (PHOTOS)

Pope Celestine V was an elderly, possibly frail man. After living as a self-flagellating hermit in Italy, he served as pontiff for only five months before resigning at the end of the 13th century. Since his death, the so-called “Hermit Pope” has been the subject of much speculation and intrigue, with legend holding that the he was murdered by his successor, Boniface VIII.

During examinations of Celestine’s remains, a small, mysterious hole found on his skull led some to believe he died from trauma to the head. But a recent examination of the pope’s skeleton suggests this murder theory might be false. Instead, Celestine may have died slowly from natural causes as he languished in Boniface’s castle prison, where he was locked away soon after his resignation prompted fears that two popes could cause a schism in the Church.

Turkey is investigating an alleged plot to assassinate Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, spiritual leader of the world’s Orthodox Christians, and has stepped up security around the patriarchate in Istanbul, his spokesman said on Friday.
Spokesman Dositheos Anagnostopoulos said the patriarch had not received any direct threats but had learned of the alleged plot from Turkish media, which was later confirmed to the patriarchate by Turkish police.

“Later in the day, police informed the patriarchate of a possible threat and dispatched additional police officers,” Anagnostopoulos said.

Turkish broadcaster NTV said one man had been arrested in relation to the alleged plot, after state prosecutors in central Kayseri province received an anonymous letter saying there was a plan to assasinate Bartholomew on May 29, the anniversary of the Ottoman conquest of present-day Istanbul.

In recent times, DEPRESSION has been the major cause of suicide. ANGER has led to premature death, LOW SELF ESTEEM has led to suicide because they do not see themselves as being able to carry on with life and feel others are better than they are. I have taken it upon myself to listen and write to the public and victims of these. If distance cannot make me listen and interact with you physically, then I hope my message would reach and touch your heart knowing that you are not in this alone and you can come out of it.
