Hostess is moving ahead with plans to sell its Twinkies, and one of the new owners says the spongy cream-filled snacks could be back on shelves by summer.
The bankrupt company had earlier picked a $410 million joint offer from Metropoulos & Co. and Apollo Global Management (APO) as the “stalking horse” bid to set the floor for an auction.

When it comes to dealing with this divot, score one for golfer Mark Mihal.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/13QvcoX) reports that the mortgage broker from Creve Coeur, Mo., is recovering after a sinkhole opened up beneath him Friday on the fairway at the 14th hole of a southwestern Illinois golf course.
The pit that swallowed him was 18 feet deep and 10 feet wide.

Julio Acevedo was arrested Wednesday in connection to a Brooklyn hit-and-run crash that killed an entire family.
Cops confirm Acevedo, 44, was nabbed walking out of a Turkey Hill convenient store in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, shortly after 5p.m.
Acevedo, who told The Daily News in an exclusive interview Tuesday that he would surrender to authorities, had been a fugitive for four days following the deadly Sunday crash, which claimed the lives of Nachman and Raizy Glauber. The crash also later killed the couple’s newborn child, who was delivered alive after Raizy was pronounced dead.

An Indonesian woman drowned her nine-year-old son in the bath, claiming she was worried that his “small penis” would affect his prospects for the future, a police spokesman said Thursday.
The 38-year-old woman from the capital Jakarta told police her son had had a small penis prior to being circumcised, but that it appeared to shrink further after the operation, police spokesman Rikwanto, who goes by one name, told AFP.

We’ve all heard stories of unlucky schmucks forced to swallow condoms of cocaine and cross the border, but that’s actually tame compared to some of the more out-there ideas that drug cartels have hatched. In this feature, we’ll unearth ten completely insane ways that criminals have moved drugs from place to place. These are, by far, the craziest drug smuggling schemes ever.
.

Drug Cannon
Drug cartels are known for being well armed, but this is ridiculous. Police in Mexicali confiscated a bizarre homemade mechanism consisting of a metal tank, a length of PVC pipe and an old car engine that was used to launch packages of weed over the Mexican border. The “marijuana cannon,” as they dubbed it, used pneumatic pressure to vault 30-pound cans of drugs as far as 500 feet to be picked up by runners on the other side.

Valerie Harper is facing a devastating diagnosis: terminal brain cancer.
The television icon – beloved for her role as brash New Yorker Rhoda Morgenstern on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and its spin-off, Rhoda – received the news on Jan. 15, she reveals to PEOPLE in this week’s exclusive cover interview.
A battery of tests revealed she has leptomeningeal carcinomatosis, a rare condition that occurs when cancer cells spread into the fluid-filled membrane surrounding the brain. Her doctors say she has as little as three months left to live.

A few key behaviors and health conditions could predict your chances of health and longevity for the next 10 years. Find out what they are.
Want to look 10 years into the future, and see how your health is holding up? Thanks to researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, you now can. They developed a checklist, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, which fairly accurately predicts a senior’s chance of surviving another decade, providing a unique opportunity for patients and physicians to work together to lessen key health risk factors and improve seniors’ quality of life, they say.
The UCSF analysis used a nationally representative cohort of U.S. adults over age 50. Point values were assigned to each factor in the mortality index (the higher the points, the worse the risk). A risk score was then calculated for each participant based on their self-reported health indicators. In the end, there was a dramatic difference: Participants with no risk factors had a 2.8 percent chance of dying over 10 years, while those with the most risks had a 96 percent chance of dying.

While many may disagree on the whole concept, the “theory of evolution” actually applies in the Tech world, in particular the world of smart phones. Mobiles phones are not just mobile phones any more. They are not the simple bricks that were used for dialing numbers and occasionally sending costly short messages. Mobiles have evolved a lot over the last decade, and the evolution has been a sweet ride. Technology has been very kind to them on all fronts. They are not just boring slabs of bulky plastic, they are beautiful, thin and shiny lusty devices. They don’t have many clunky buttons now, they have capacitive touch screens. Most importantly though, they are not just number dialers, they are fully capable multimedia players, a planner, a portable disk, a GPS device and capable of a plethora of other tasks which were once only the domain of a PC.

As a 17-year-old who had been shot by his grandmother pleaded with a 911 dispatcher to send help, the 75-year-old woman shot him again, a prosecutor told jurors Tuesday in suburban Detroit.
Just as Jonathan Hoffman “thought he was safe … Sandra Layne walks up and shoots him again. This time in the stomach,” Paul Walton, Oakland County’s chief assistant prosecutor, said during his opening statement in Layne’s first-degree murder trial.
Defense attorney Jerome Sabbota countered that the diminutive Layne feared for her safety during the fatal May 18, 2012, confrontation in the West Bloomfield Township condo Hoffman shared with his grandparents.

Sandra Layne smiles at her family while entering the court room of Oakland Circuit Judge Denise Lagnford Morris for her murder trial in Pontiac, Mich. on Tuesday, March 5, 2013. Layne is charged with fatally shooting her 17-year-old grandson. Layne has been jailed since May on first-degree murder and gun charges in the slaying of Jonathan Hoffman, who was shot multiple times May 18 in Oakland County’s West Bloomfield Township, northwest of Detroit. Hoffman was living with his grandmother while on 12 months’ probation.
