Drug abuse is a scary thing. To further illustrate that point, Rehabs.com has posted a follow up to its anti-methamphetamine campaign “Horrors of Meth.”

“Faces of Drug Arrests,” a new series of shocking images, depicts the decline of different suspects physical appearance over the years via their mugshots. The individuals shown were all arrested for drug and drug-related offenses involving meth, heroin, cocaine, and prescription drugs.

It’s worth noting that some of the changes in these suspects’ faces could be due to natural aging, and other issues, such as hygiene or illness, could contribute to the dramatic transformations captured in the series.

We’ve all heard stories of unlucky schmucks forced to swallow condoms of cocaine and cross the border, but that’s actually tame compared to some of the more out-there ideas that drug cartels have hatched. In this feature, we’ll unearth ten completely insane ways that criminals have moved drugs from place to place. These are, by far, the craziest drug smuggling schemes ever.

Drug Cannon

Drug cartels are known for being well armed, but this is ridiculous. Police in Mexicali confiscated a bizarre homemade mechanism consisting of a metal tank, a length of PVC pipe and an old car engine that was used to launch packages of weed over the Mexican border. The “marijuana cannon,” as they dubbed it, used pneumatic pressure to vault 30-pound cans of drugs as far as 500 feet to be picked up by runners on the other side.

This gang no longer has street cred — because the gang is off the streets.

The Canadian RCMP dismantled the Winnipeg chapter of the Rock Machine motorcycle gang in a raid on Wednesday, the Brandon Sun reports. Police arrested 11 people and seized some 1,800 pills of synthetic ecstasy, cocaine, marijuana, pipe bombs, gang clothing and guns.

The RCMP raided two homes Wednesday morning and arrested the suspects. One of the homes, on Wall Street in Winnipeg, had to be closed for several hours because explosives were found there, the CBC reports.

You’ve probably heard that Sigmund Freud was a cocaine user. At the age of 28, he wrote his fiancee a letter in which he described himself as “a big wild man who has cocaine in his body,” according to Freud scholar Dr. Paul Vitz. The future father of psychoanalysis added that he wanted to write “a song of praise to this magical substance.”

Although cocaine makes people feel more alert and on top of things in the moment, it can leave users vulnerable to a much slower brain in the long run. A new study shows that chronic use ages key parts of the brain at an accelerated rate. The findings were published online April 24 in Molecular Psychiatry.
