The condom protects us from infection and unwanted pregnancy, and it has reshaped the history of sex across the world. Studying its strange past can teach us a lot about our changing attitudes toward sexual intimacy throughout the ages.

The size of our universe is nearly incomprehensible. It’s so vast, the thought of anything greater is a little hard to swallow. But could there be a parallel universe out there? Could our universe be part of a grander whole, a multiverse?

An overwhelming 83 percent of Americans say that God answers prayers–which raises the question, does prayer work? Is it something that we can even begin to approach scientifically? Unsettling as these questions may be, I think it’s important to attempt to get to the bottom of them.

I’ve got to be honest: when I think of leprosy, I think of Jesus. Often regarded as a vestige from a bygone era, I was surprised to learn (from a reader, in fact) that leprosy still afflicts nearly two million people worldwide. We now call it Hansen’s disease, but referring to it by its pseudonym has done little to dispel myths or stigma surrounding this ancient affliction.

Tomorrow is the big day. Time to dust off your eclipse glasses, binoculars and posterboard, or pinhole camera and witness the transit of Venus, a once in a lifetime event! (Actually, it’s a twice in a lifetime event, but if you missed it eight years ago, this is your last chance!)

Is the internet bad for our brains? Is it affecting our ability to remember things, form meaningful relationships, or make decisions? How is it beneficial? Isn’t having so much information at our fingertips a good thing?

Happy 420 from Talk Nerdy To Me! Today, I want to take the time to explore some facts and fictions surrounding the use of marijuana as medicine. I reached out to Dr. Igor Grant, the director of the University of California Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research to get a scientific perspective on the benefits of medical marijuana.

On August 1, 1966, Charles Whitman murdered his mother and his wife before traveling to the campus of the University of Texas, climbing inside the tower, and killing fourteen others. He was dubbed the infamous UT sniper, but his story involves much more than Marine Corps training and a proclivity for violence. In fact, Whitman complained of headaches and an altered mental state in the days and weeks leading up to the killings. His own suicide note read that “I do not really understand myself these days. I am supposed to be an average reasonable and intelligent young man. However, lately (I cannot recall when it started) I have been a victim of many unusual and irrational thoughts.”
