The U.S. job-creation engine remained revved up in February, defying Old Man Winter and expectations for lower growth, government data showed on Friday.
Wage growth, however, remained sluggish, rising by a mere three pennies an hour, or a 2.0 percent annualized gain. The average work week was 34.6 hours, essentially unchanged.
The Labor Department reported that non-farm payrolls rose by 295,000 last month, versus January’s unrevised 329,000, extending for another month one of the the best streaks of jobs growth since the late 1990s. The unemployment rate slipped to 5.5 percent from 5.7 percent, Economists on average had been expecting a payrolls number of 240,000 with a jobless rate of 5.6 percent.

The U.S. economy added 214,000 jobs in October, as the unemployment rate fell to 5.8 percent, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday.
Three days after voters registered their sourness about the U.S. economy, the government said Friday that employers added a solid 214,000 jobs in October, extending the healthiest pace of hiring in eight years.
The Labor Department also said a combined 31,000 more jobs were added in August and September than it had previously estimated. Employers have now added at least 200,000 jobs for nine straight months — the longest such stretch since 1995.

It happens to the best of us. Maybe accounting didn’t get you the numbers on time. Maybe the design work you thought would take you four hours is taking more like 14. Maybe Taco Tuesday turned into Food Poisoning Tuesday, and there’s just no way you can drag yourself to the office to finish Wednesday’s client report.
In any case, you’re going to miss a deadline, and you know your boss, your customer, or whoever else you owe your work to is not going to be excited.
As a writer and an editor, I’ve unfortunately been on both sides of the missed deadline dilemma. And here are a few things I’ve tried and seen that will help you get the extension you need while keeping your relationships intact.

Creating a company from the ground up while generating a successful revenue steam is the essence of the American Dream; but if this were an easy task, there would be a flood of employees quitting their “nine-to-fives” to found startups.
The autonomy that comes along with building a business around personal goals, talents and interests is compelling for many workers who are fed up with their daily grind. On the other hand, leaving a stable employment situation can be stressful — and it’s a decision that shouldn’t be taken lightly, even if you’re not entirely satisfied with one or more of the aspects of your current job.
As an experienced entrepreneur, I’ve learned a few pointers along the way that may help others looking to take the leap. Below are a few considerations to take into account when making the decision to start your own company.

Making good on a promise from last year’s State of the Union to help create good-paying American jobs, President Barack Obama on Wednesday announced a new public-private manufacturing hub in North Carolina to develop next-generation power electronics.
Obama’s announcement was meant to give a manufacturing boost to the state that has taken hits in the recession. “We’re not going to turn things around overnight. A lot of jobs were lost in the textile industry and furniture-making,” he told 2,000 gathered at a North Carolina State University arena.
But he expressed optimism that the time is now for a change. “This can be a breakthrough year for America,” Obama said. “The pieces are all there to start bringing back more of the jobs that we’ve lost over the past decade.”

From AOL Jobs.
NEWARK, N.J. — The 5- and 6-year-olds in the cafeteria at St. Philip’s Academy may not have been able to read the chalkboard sign over their heads urging them to “Eat Fresh, Eat Healthy, Eat Foods in Season,” but that hardly mattered. The bouncy kindergarteners and first graders were taking turns grabbing fresh produce from the abundant selection at the salad bar, their bowls brimming over with fresh leafy greens planted in a science classroom just two floors above them and only 18 days before.

The cheerful scene made possible by a partnership that the independent K-8 school forged in 2010 with entrepreneur Richard Charles, co-founder of EcoVeggies, an urban farm startup. Charles teamed up with the technology company Aerofarms to introduce the school to aeroponic farming, a process in which plants are grown indoors, without the use of soil.
