We’ve all heard stories of unlucky schmucks forced to swallow condoms of cocaine and cross the border, but that’s actually tame compared to some of the more out-there ideas that drug cartels have hatched. In this feature, we’ll unearth ten completely insane ways that criminals have moved drugs from place to place. These are, by far, the craziest drug smuggling schemes ever.
.

Drug Cannon
Drug cartels are known for being well armed, but this is ridiculous. Police in Mexicali confiscated a bizarre homemade mechanism consisting of a metal tank, a length of PVC pipe and an old car engine that was used to launch packages of weed over the Mexican border. The “marijuana cannon,” as they dubbed it, used pneumatic pressure to vault 30-pound cans of drugs as far as 500 feet to be picked up by runners on the other side.

In the second century, an ethnically Greek Roman named Galen became doctor to the gladiators. His glimpses into the human body via these warriors’ wounds, combined with much more systematic dissections of animals, became the basis of Islamic and European medicine for centuries.
Galen’s texts wouldn’t be challenged for anatomical supremacy until the Renaissance, when human dissections — often in public — surged in popularity. But doctors in medieval Europe weren’t as idle as it may seem, as a new analysis of the oldest-known preserved human dissection in Europe reveals.
.

This anatomical specimen dating to the 1200s is the oldest known in Europe.

A 26-year-old Chinese immigrant who was convicted of being an enforcer for a Taiwan-based gang was sentenced Tuesday to spend the rest of his life in a Nevada prison for killing one person and wounding two others in a bloody knife attack in a Las Vegas karaoke bar almost four years ago.
Xiao Ye Bai’s tears fell on his written apology as he told a Clark County District Court judge through a Mandarin interpreter that he knew his sorrow couldn’t atone for his crimes including murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, conspiracy and extortion.

An unnamed 16-year-old student from Cypress Lake High School in Fort Myers, Fla., was suspended for three days after he disarmed a 15-year-old peer who allegedly threatened to shoot another student with a loaded revolver during a Feb. 26 fight on a school bus, according WFTX.

How did the largest of all dinosaurs evolve necks longer than any other creature that has ever lived? One secret: mostly hollow neck bones, researchers say.
The largest creatures to ever walk the Earth were the long-necked, long-tailed dinosaurs known as the sauropods. These vegetarians had by far the longest necks of any known animal. The dinosaurs’ necks reached up to 50 feet (15 meters) in length, six times longer than that of the current world-record holder, the giraffe, and at least five times longer than those of any other animal that has lived on land.

Star-shaped waves can form in vibrating tanks of liquid oil, researchers say.
Learning more about such bizarre waves could shed light on counterparts that may exist elsewhere in nature, researchers added.
Waves of all kinds often behave in an intuitively linear manner. For instance, a weight on a spring will bob up and down in a manner directly proportional to the force that the weight exerts on the spring.
However, a number of strange waves can also form. They come from what is called nonlinearity, in which a small or simple change results in a disproportionately large or complex effect. For instance, aspects of weather behave chaotically, in a nonlinear manner.
.

Researchers have discovered a new type of gravity wave, one that is shaped like a star. Such bizarre waves result from a property called nonlinearity, in which a small or simple change results in a disproportionately large or complex effect. For instance, aspects of weather behave chaotically, in a nonlinear manner.

3D printing could become one the biggest innovations during the next decade. Imagine every home in America using the 3D printing technology whenever something breaks or is needed in the household. Space exploration could benefit from the technology to cut costs and weight when traveling to the Moon or Mars. Instead of bringing a tool or instrument to Mars, why not simply print it out once you get there?

For one year’s work as a full-time music teacher in New York City more than a decade ago, Aryeh Eller has collected almost $1 million in salary from the city.
Eller, 46 years old, was removed from his post at Hillcrest High School in Queens in 1999 and confessed to numerous allegations that he sexually harassed female students, the New York Post reports.
But like dozens of other New York City “rubber room” cases, an independent arbitrator determined that Eller couldn’t be fired because the city failed to inform the teacher of his rights. But the city’s Department of Education, deeming Eller unfit for the classroom but also unable to fire him, placed him in a holding room and reassigned him to administrative duty.

The Alabama bunker in which a young boy was held hostage for a week also had homemade bombs.
CBS News tweeted that Jimmy Lee Dykes, the man who took the 5-year-old hostage, had stored homemade bombs in his underground bunker.
Dykes was killed when authorities invaded the bunker Monday in southeastern Alabama. The 5-year-old was successfully freed.
The boy’s grandmother told the Associated Press she fears the crisis will stay with the child for the rest of his life.

The burger is one of those American foods that will never go away. There have been books written and movies filmed about the subject. In some restaurants, burgers have reached such cult status that it would simply be impossible for there to be any more hype about them.
One broad shift has been rocking the ground meat world for years: the explosion of fast casual chains. While McDonald’s, Burger King and other fast food chains are constantly innovating and attempting to come up with more “premium” items, they are also struggling to lure people that have chosen fast casual over fast food. One difference? Burgers made to order.
