Computer printers aren’t typically linked with the word “subversive,” but that’s the mission of a new site for 3D printer files.
Defcad was announced Tuesday at the South by Southwest Interactive conference. It is designed to give 3D printer enthusiasts access to files that allow them to create objects with their printers — even if those objects are protected by intellectual property laws.
Defcad is backed by Defense Distributed, an Austin, Texas group that recently made headlines by offering 3D printer files to make firearm parts.
Chris Kyle, a former Navy SEAL who wrote the best-selling book American Sniper about his service in Iraq, was shot and killed at a gun range in Texas, multiple outlets reported Saturday night. A second man was also killed.
According to local TV station KHOU, officials said that Kyle was shot at point-blank range “while helping another soldier who was recovering from post traumatic stress syndrome” at a range near the town of Glen Rose.
The Dallas Morning News reports that Lancaster, Texas police arrested a suspect, 25-year-old Eddie Ray Routh, after a brief chase.

Thanks to the residents of a Texas city and a Facebook campaign that has gone viral, an abused dog who was was left for dead in a garbage bag has been given a new chance at life.
The pooch, who has since been named “Buck,” was reportedly found on Jan. 5, after a local resident of Conroe, Tex., noticed that a garbage bag left on the side of the road and “tied to a t-post of a fence” was moving. He tore the bag open and was shocked to find the 3-year-old mixed breed, covered in blood and weakened by the cold, inside.
Turns out the one behind the famous French fashion label’s limited edition scarves is not a trained Parisian artist, but a postal worker from Waco, Texas, named Kermit Oliver. Oliver sifts mail during the day, and paints at night. According to the Texas Monthly, who recently did a revealing profile on the artist, noted that Oliver was discovered in the 1980s by then Hermes CEO Jean-Louis Dumas. He has since kept his job at the Post Office, preferring a simple and quieter life to one of fame and notoriety.
