Data from a regional stroke registry suggest that stroke may be shifting from a disease of the elderly to a midlife health concern.
The rate of first stroke among patients age 20 to 54 jumped 12.9 percent in 1993-1994 to 18.6 percent in 2005, according to Brett Kissela, MD, of the University of Cincinnati in Ohio, and colleagues.

Are there depression-fighting foods? A growing body of research says yes.
Recent studies have found evidence that foods such as cold-water fish (salmon, sardines, and tuna, for example), walnuts, and canola oil may be especially beneficial in fighting depression, thanks to an abundance of omega-3 fatty acids. This may help explain why Scandinavian and Asian countries, which boast fish-rich diets, also have lower rates of depression.

For years now, a steady slew of headlines have warned about the dangers of methamphetamine addiction, with many calling meth (nicknamed “ice,” “crystal,” or “crank”) the most dangerous drug in America.
However, according to new research from Toronto’s Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), when it comes to sheer deadliness, there’s an even bigger threat out there than meth: opioids.

Restless legs syndrome is a common problem, affecting some 12 million Americans in the United States. But research suggests that many people with the condition may go undiagnosed — largely because they either don’t recognize the symptoms or misattribute them to stress, aging, muscle cramps, or arthritis, according to the National Institutes of Health.
