Doctors are becoming more familiar with restless legs syndrome, a common, sleep-robbing condition. Restless legs syndrome symptoms include odd sensations in the legs and a strong urge to move them.
Restless legs syndrome affects more than 12 million Americans, and often requires a much larger vocabulary to describe symptoms than merely the word “restless.”
Even if you’re exhausted and it seems that every part of your body needs a good night’s rest, your legs — and your brain — may be deceiving you. Restless legs syndrome is a neurological disorder that can make falling and staying asleep a very difficult task.

Bank regulators got a sense Thursday of how their lives will be slightly different now that Elizabeth Warren sits on a Senate committee overseeing their agencies.
At her first Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee hearing, Warren questioned top regulators from the alphabet soup that is the nation’s financial regulatory structure: the FDIC, SEC, OCC, CFPB, CFTC, Fed and Treasury.
The Democratic senator from Massachusetts had a straightforward question for them: When was the last time you took a Wall Street bank to trial? It was a harder question than it seemed.

As the years pass by I continue to “stumble” across inexplicable photos, reports, videos and alternative scenarios for who and what may have really been behind the American tragedy which took place in NYC on September 11th 2001, also know known everywhere as simply “9-11.”

A pair of RNA-like molecules can spontaneously assemble into gene-length chains, chemists in the United States and Spain report. Billions of years ago, related molecules may have created a rudimentary form of genetic information that eventually led to the evolution of RNA and life itself, the researchers say. Although it’s likely to be difficult, if not impossible, to prove whether similar proto-RNAs were present at the dawn of life, the researchers are working to see if the proto-RNAs can indeed faithfully encode information and evolve toward RNA.
.

Researchers have thought that RNA, the molecular cousin of the DNA that encodes our genes, may have played a role in the initial evolution of life. Shown here is an image of a DNA strand.

Forecasting when stars will die in giant explosions may one day be possible by looking for the warning outbursts they release beforehand, researchers say.
Supernovas are the most powerful stellar explosions in the universe, visible all the way to the edge of the cosmos. These stars detonate for two known reasons: either from gorging on too much mass stolen from a companion star or by running out of fuel and abruptly collapsing.
Astronomers have suggested that stars can give off smaller explosions just before they go supernova. To find out more about supernovas, researchers used three telescopes — the Palomar Observatory, the Very Large Array and NASA’s Swift mission — to investigate a star 500 million light-years away.

The image shows a simulation of a collision between two shells of matter ejected by a massive star in two subsequent pulsational pair-instability supernova eruptions, only years apart, just before the star dies. Image released Feb. 7, 2013.

The Curiosity rover has not stumbled onto evidence of an ancient civilization that took the family van to Olympus Mons for vacation, however. The object is simply a rock that the wind has sculpted into an interesting shape, scientists said.

A landmark case in China granted Kim Lee a divorce from her husband on the grounds of domestic abuse — a topic seldom discussed there. Kim Lee joined HuffPost Live from Beijing, China, and spoke to host Abby Huntsman about the violence she was subjected to by her Chinese husband, Li Yang.
“He sat on my back and hit my head into the floor 10 or 12 times,” said Lee, “It was extreme violence. Any type of violence is unacceptable, but it was extreme.” Instead of denying the violence, her husband spoke publicly about the abuse in interviews. Lee quoted that “his exact words were ‘yes, I beat her sometimes but I never thought she’d go to the police, because that’s not what Chinese women do.'”

Having run out of patience for Congress to act on a cybersecurity bill, President Obama has decided to take matters into his own hands.
Obama signed an executive order on Tuesday addressing the country’s most basic cybersecurity needs and highlighted the effort in his State of the Union address.
“We cannot look back years from now and wonder why we did nothing in the face of real threats to our security and our economy,” Obama said.
