Convicted kidnapper and rapist Ariel Castro was found dead on Tuesday evening, 19 Action News reported. He was 53.
On Aug. 1, Castro was sentenced to life plus 1,000 years in prison for kidnapping and raping Amanda Berry, Michelle Knight and Gina DeJesus, and holding them captive in his Cleveland home for more than a decade.
He pleaded guilty to 937 counts, including murder and kidnapping, in exchange for the death penalty being taken off the table, CNN reported.
During the sentencing, Castro denied being abusive and insisted that most of the sex was consensual.
‘I’m not a violent person,” Castro said. “I simply kept them there without them being able to leave.”

Maj. Nidal Hasan was sentenced to death for killing 13 people and injuring more than 30 in a 2009 attack at Fort Hood, Texas. In the almost four years since that event, 16 more mass shootings have occurred in the United States, with fatalities ranging from four to 28, according to data compiled by Mother Jones.
Each such event inevitably begets the question: What motivates killers? What can turn a person to such an act of violence? A 2009 TED talk by neuroscientist Jim Fallon may hold one of the keys to the enduring mystery of human violence.
Fallon explains that after examining the brains of around 70 psychopathic killers, certain common traits became evident — every single brain showed signs of damage. Fallon was even able to pinpoint a specific area where murderers had experienced trauma: the orbital cortex. Furthermore, he found that the age at which the damage occurred was also a sign of whether someone would become a killer or not.

NASA will launch a new spacecraft tonight (Sept. 6) to unlock the mysteries of moon dust and the wispy lunar atmosphere, and you can watch the blastoff live online.
The space agency’s Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer, nicknamed LADEE, is poised to liftoff atop a brand-new Minotaur V rocket from Wallops Island, Va., at 11:27 p.m. EDT (0327 Sept. 7 GMT) in what will be the first-ever lunar mission to launch from Virginia. Weather permitting, the nighttime launch may be visible to millions of observers along a wide swath of the U.S. East Coast that stretches from Maine to North Carolina.
But for observers outside the viewing area, NASA has two webcasts to offer live video views of tonight’s planned moon shot. You can watch the LADEE launch live on SPACE.com beginning at 9:30 p.m. EDT (0130 GMT), courtesy of NASA TV.

If a snake eats a monkey in the forest and no one sees it, does it make a difference? New evidence suggests that it does.
For the first time, scientists have witnessed a boa constrictor attacking and eating a howler monkey. The finding, and boa-eating-monkey video, is noteworthy since reports of primates being eaten by predators are relatively rare, according to the study, published this month in the journal Primates.
“This may cause us to rethink how vulnerable [these] primates are to predation,” said Paul Garber, a primatologist at the University of Illinois, who wasn’t involved in the study.

A sexual education and health teacher at a Massachusetts high school has been indicted on rape charges after prosecutors said she had a sexual relationship with a student.
Rachelle Gendron, 27, was fired from her job at North Central Charter Essential School in Fitchburg following an investigation in which police allegedly recovered “significant” evidence of inappropriate conduct, including text messages and photos of the teacher “in various states of undress with genitals and breasts exposed,” from the phone of a 14-year-old male student.
In court Friday, Gendron appeared crying and visibly shaken as she was arraigned on charges including five counts of rape aggravated by age difference.

Rachelle Gendron, a former sex education teacher, is charged with the rape of a minor student.

Investigators believe a serial rapist has attacked at least eight women in one Dallas neighborhood since June, including six in the past two weeks, police said Wednesday.
The latest victim came forward Wednesday to report she was attacked on Aug. 28 in the same area, which is near downtown Dallas and next to the southeastern edge of Fair Park, where the state fair will open later this month.
In addition to their location, the attacks share several similarities, police said in a statement. The assailant in each was a black man in his mid-20s to early 30s who was armed with a handgun. He wore shorts and a T-shirt, masked his face using various types of cloth and in some cases, had on prescription glasses. The attacker approached his victims, forced them to secluded areas nearby, and then robbed and sexually assaulted them.

Google doesn’t want porn on Glass, the company’s hotly anticipated (and mocked) eyewear-computer combination.
However, we all know that where there is technology there will be porn.
Earlier this week, Motherboard announced that adult app company MiKandi recently sponsored a professional pornographic video shot with Google Glass. Well-known porn stars James Deen and Andy San Dimas wore Google Glass while having sex. The technique was a clever end-run around Google’s ban on pornographic applications. (You can watch the video on YouTube.)
“While developers cannot share Glass apps that serve sexually explicit content,” Mikandi CEO Jesse Adams told Fast Company, “there doesn’t seem to be any terms that prohibit users from shooting their own adult content.”

Are you ready to pick up your very own pair of Google Glasses? Well, you’ll have to be patient: There’s finally a vague release window in sight, but you’ll be a couple years older before it arrives.
During an interview with Bloomberg Television, Google co-founder Sergey Brin announced his hopes to release the consumer version of Project Glass, Google’s augmented reality specs, sometime in 2014. The company is also aiming for a price point below $1,500.
Brin demoed the “glasses” at Google’s I/O 2012 developers conference in Califorina with a stunning presentation that involved a daredevil leap from an airplane; the skydiver wearing the device captured video of his fall while conference attendees gripped their seats and watched it projected live onto a large screen in the conference hall. After the presentation, Brin announced that those interested in purchasing a developer-only prototype of Project Glass, dubbed the “Explorer Edition,” would be able to do so for a staggering $1,500. Those units will ship in 2013, said Brin.

Few entrepreneurs can say they’ve grown their business into multi-million dollar enterprises in just a couple years. Far fewer can say they’ve done so all before even graduating high school.
Jaylen Bledsoe, 15, of Hazelwood, Mo., however, is just that rare breed of high school sophomore. He started his own tech company that specializes in web design and other IT services, Bledsoe Technologies, when he was just 13 years old and worked to expand it into a global enterprise now worth around $3.5 million, Fox 2 in St. Louis reports. The local news station followed up with Bledsoe on Monday after first interviewing the teen back in March 2012. Since that first interview, Bledsoe has grown his company from two workers to about 150 contracted employees in order to meet demand.
