WEST JORDAN, Utah — A 6-year-old girl found dead in a canal near her home was sexually assaulted, and authorities are now searching for a suspect, police said Wednesday.

Sierra Newbold, above, was found dead in a canal near her home less than an hour after her mother found she was missing from her bed. An autopsy has since determined that she was sexually assaulted before her death.
