Since the Affordable Care Act passed into law, companies have been vocal about the drastic measures they’ll take to avoid paying for basic health care coverage for their employees, including cutting hours and firing workers.
An increasing number of companies now say paying the government’s penalty to break the law will be cheaper than following it, The Wall Street Journal reports.
An Obamacare provision that goes into effect next year requires businesses with 50 or more full-time workers to provide health care coverage for employees. For businesses that don’t, there is a $2,000 penalty for each full-time worker above the 30-employee threshold. (Full-time workers are defined as anyone who works more than 30 hours a week in a given month.)

An upcoming documentary promises to show an alleged, tiny “alien” being that was found a few years ago in Chile’s Atacama Desert. And when we say tiny, we’re talking six inches from head to ET toe.
The film, called “Sirius,” will also depict how readily available forms of alternative energy technology are what extraterrestrials may be using to travel here from the cosmically improbable distances between their home world and ours.
If this is all true, and that’s a very big IF, it will certainly answer the ages-old question of whether or not humans are alone in the universe.
The force behind “Sirius” is Steven Greer, a former emergency medical physician. He’s actively pursued avenues to get the U.S. government to reveal information about alien reality — information that the powers-that-be have always maintained doesn’t exist.

Scientists may have discovered the first meteorite from Mercury.
The green rock found in Morocco last year may be the first known visitor from the solar system’s innermost planet, according to meteorite scientist Anthony Irving, who unveiled the new findings this month at the 44th annual Lunar and Planetary Science Conference in The Woodlands, Texas. The study suggests that a space rock called NWA 7325 came from Mercury, and not an asteroid or Mars.
NWA 7325 is actually a group of 35 meteorite samples discovered in 2012 in Morocco. They are ancient, with Irving and his team dating the rocks to an age of about 4.56 billion years.

Mingo County Sheriff Eugene Crum was fatally shot Wednesday outside the Mingo County courthouse, WCHS reports.
The courthouse, located in Williamson, W. Va., has been evacuated, WSAZ reports.
WCHS reports that a suspect has been taken into custody.
The suspect was shot but is “alert and talking,” and has been taken to the hospital, according to the Charleston Daily Mail. He was shot while attempting to flee the crime scene, West Virginia State Police said, according to WSAZ.
Crum was eating lunch when a suspect drove by and fired at him, a county commissioner said, according to the Charleston Daily Mail. West Virginia House Delegate Justin Marcum said Crum enjoyed having his lunch in a place where he could see a former “pill mill” that was raided in 2010, the paper reported.

Google’s Project Glass recently got a new blast of publicity for its augmented reality specs with the video “How It Feels,” which purportedly shows what it’s like to be wearing Google Glass. The project also held an #ifIHadGlass competition, in which applicants were invited to submit what they would do if they were given Google Glass. The competition’s winners, yet to be announced, are eligible to receive some of the first copies of Glass, provided they’re willing to cough up $1500.

Google has revealed the first few ‘real people’ who have been picked to try its Google Glasses.
The search giant’s new wearable computer features voice recognition, a camera and a pared down OS which allows users to message, call and share pictures with each other.
While plenty of celebs and Googlers have been spotted wearing Google Glass, it’s trickier for ‘regular’ people to get hold of them.

Trayvon Martin’s family has reached a settlement in a wrongful death suit they filed against the homeowners association of the sub-division where Martin was killed, the Orlando Sentinel reports.
Martin was shot to death just steps from his father’s home on Feb. 26, 2012, by volunteer neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman. The case drew national attention last year as the Sanford Police Department vacillated on whether to file charges against Zimmerman, who indicated that he’d shot Martin only after being attacked. Zimmerman has been charged with second degree murder and is currently awaiting trial.

In the year since it landed on the international news radar, the Trayvon Martin case has raised a global discussion about Florida’s controversial “Stand Your Ground” law. But in a stunning twist of events Tuesday morning, George Zimmerman’s attorneys waived their client’s right to a scheduled April 22 hearing that was to be held under the law that has sparked so much debate, ABC news reports.
Zimmerman, the former neighborhood watch volunteer who is facing second-degree murder charges for the shooting of 17-year-old Martin, is awaiting trial set for June 10, 2013. His counsel’s move waiving his right to the April hearing leaves open the opportunity for it to be rolled into Zimmerman’s trial this summer, and gives the defense more time to prepare, an obvious concern after a motion to delay the proceedings was denied.

It’s recommended that a woman consume on average 2,000 calories per day. But, if you’re not an avid calorie-counter with a pair of food scales in your handbag, it can be quite difficult to know the calorie content of everything that passes your lips.
But don’t fear, help is here. Buzzfeed have produced a helpful video showing what a 2,000-calorie serving actually looks like. And needless to say, it is taking the internet by storm.
Whether it’s 26 eggs, 50 bacon rashers or one whole pizza, this list is guaranteed to surprise (and disgust).
