Timothy Hunter, 29, and his 27-year-old wife contacted deputies Wednesday night, claiming that a masked man entered their Deltona home and attacked the woman, according to a release from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
The wife told officers that while Hunter was on a trip to the store, the intruder man burst into the bedroom, pushed her off the bed, slashed her and demanded money before fleeing. Two young children were at home at the time, though her husband took their infant with him on his errand.

Two popes prayed together Friday at the Vatican, one Catholic and one Orthodox, in a sign of improving ties following the election of new leaders for both churches.
Pope Francis welcomed the head of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Egypt, Pope Tawadros II, in the first such meeting at the Vatican in 40 years, saying his visit “strengthens the bonds of friendship and brotherhood” between the two churches.
The Coptic and Catholic churches split in the fifth century over theocratic differences.
Christians comprise about 10 percent of Egypt’s population. The Coptic Orthodox Church of Egypt counts about 10 million faithful, while the Coptic Catholic Church in Egypt – whose faithful are loyal to Pope Francis – counts about 165,000.

Celebrities make more money than we simpletons do — that isn’t entirely new. But learning exactly how much they’re worth? Now, that’s sometimes hard to believe.
Take Julia Louis-Dreyfus, for example. She’s a gifted comedian, no doubt, who managed to break “The ‘Seinfeld’ Curse,” but did you know she’s worth a whopping $3 billion, thanks largely to family money?
And did you know Keanu Reeves, he of “Matrix” fame, is estimated to be worth more than Bruce Springsteen and Ozzy Osbourne combined?

Carol Wilkins leaned over the side of her father’s wheelchair and handed him the small red box, a heart-shaped cutout revealing its contents: a weathered, bent silver dog tag.
“Oh, Daddy, look,” Wilkins exclaimed as her 90-year-old father opened it, his eyes beaming and smile wide. “They’re back.”
Sixty-nine years after losing his dog tag on the battlefields of southern France, Willie Wilkins reclaimed it Wednesday after a trans-Atlantic effort to return it to him. It started more than a decade ago in a French backyard and ended with a surprise ceremony in Newark City Hall.
“I am so happy,” Carol Wilkins said. “You don’t know what joy is on my heart for what you have done for my father.”

Breaking a world record is a huge accomplishment for any athlete, but 16-year-old Kayla Wheeler has managed to do it with no legs and only one arm.
The high school student from Washington was born with three congenital amputations, according to KCPQ. She took to swimming at a young age as a form of physical therapy. Today, she’s a Paralympic swimming champion — and currently holds the world record in the 50 meter butterfly.
“It’s kind of indescribable,” her mother, Joyce Wheeler, told KCPQ. “When they announce her name and she’s representing the United States I get goose bumps all over. I’m so amazed that’s my child.”

An 87-year-old Swiss woman who suffered painful spasms in her chest turned out to have an esophagus that twisted itself into a corkscrew shape whenever she swallowed, according to a report of her case.
The woman had lost 11 pounds in the past several months, and told doctors she had cramplike spasms shortly after eating.
Her doctors performed an endoscopy and found that, when she swallowed, her esophagus had the same helical shape as a playground twisty slide.
X-ray images revealed the startling, corkscrew shape taking form.
“The magnitude of this finding was extraordinary,” said Dr. Luc Biedermann, of the University Hospital Zurich, who treated the woman and reported the case in this week’s New England Journal of Medicine.

In the “Star Trek” TV shows and films, the U.S.S. Enterprise’s warp engine allows the ship to move faster than light, an ability that is, as Spock would say, “highly illogical.”
However, there’s a loophole in Einstein’s general theory of relativity that could allow a ship to traverse vast distances in less time than it would take light. The trick? It’s not the starship that’s moving — it’s the space around it.
In fact, scientists at NASA are right now working on the first practical field test toward proving the possibility of warp drives and faster-than-light travel. Maybe the warp drive on “Star Trek” is possible after all. [See also: Warp Drive: Can It Be Done? (Video)]
According to Einstein’s theory, an object with mass cannot go as fast or faster than the speed of light. The original “Star Trek” series ignored this “universal speed limit” in favor of a ship that could zip around the galaxy in a matter of days instead of decades. They tried to explain the ship’s faster-than-light capabilities by powering the warp engine with a “matter-antimatter” engine. Antimatter was a popular field of study in the 1960s, when creator Gene Roddenberry was first writing the series. When matter and antimatter collide, their mass is converted to kinetic energy in keeping with Einstein’s mass-energy equivalence formula, E=mc2.

When it comes to antimatter, what goes up doesn’t necessarily come down. In a new study, physicists weighed antimatter in an effort to determine how this strange cousin of matter interacts with gravity.
Ordinary matter atoms fall down due to the pull of gravity, but the same might not be true of antimatter, which has the same mass as matter, but opposite charge and spin. Scientists wondered whether antimatter atoms would instead fall up when pulled by gravity, and whether such a thing as antigravity exists.
“In the unlikely event that antimatter falls upward, we’d have to fundamentally revise our view of physics and rethink how the universe works,” Joel Fajans, a physicist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California, said in a statement.
Fajans and his colleagues at the Alpha experiment at Switzerland’s CERN physics lab made the first experimental measurements of the gravitational mass of antihydrogen — the antimatter equivalent of hydrogen, made of an antiproton and a positron (the antimatter counterpart to an electron). Thousands of ultra-Orthodox jeered, spit and threw rocks at the 400 ‘Women of the Wall’ who prayed at the Western Wall today, according to the Jerusalem Post.
The women were protected by the police following a recent court order in favor of the Women of the Wall’s right to pray at the sacred site.
The Women of the Wall praised the police and condemned the action by the ultra-Orthodox in a statement released to The Huffington Post:
For the first time in 24 years, Israel Police protected nearly 400 Women of the Wall today as they gathered at the Western Wall (Kotel). The women and the police were confronted by thousands of ultra-Orthodox (haredi), both young girls watching from the side and haredi men of all ages, acting out violently towards the group of women.Women of the Wall is proud to have gotten to this historic point, in which women are praying freely, defended by the police. Likewise, the group is greatly saddened by the use of violence by haredi men. Women of the Wall calls on ultra-Orthodox leadership to denounce all forms of violence against women.
