The rumors and feature teases are true: New Twitter profiles are here, with a brand-new, yet oddly familiar, look. The new design is rolling out slowly, unless you’re a celebrity or a new user. And it may represent a real turning point.
Like many people who live on Twitter, I don’t look at my own profile page very often. I spend most of my time on the Twitter.com homepage to see tweets from all the accounts I follow, and my Notifications page to track replies and mentions of my handle. I last managed my Twitter profile ages ago.
However, I look at other users’ profile pages fairly often. It’s where I learn about who they are through their profile picture and their brief description of themselves, which may include details like job, location and a link for more information. In other words, profile pages are important, especially for brands, celebrities and new users.

While Albert Einstein, considered one of the foremost geniuses of the 20th century, has transformed scientists’ understanding of physics and astronomy with his theories, the intellect of Einstein himself has remained misunderstood.
Ever since pathologist Dr. Thomas Harvey harvested the scientist’s brain in 1955, researchers have tried to crack the mystery of Einstein’s genius by observing that brain.
Now scientists think they’ve found a clue. A new study, published in the journal Brain on September 24, 2013, suggests that the two hemispheres in Einstein’s brain were unusually well connected.
“This study, more than any other to date, really gets at the ‘inside’ of Einstein’s brain,” study co-author Dean Falk, an evolutionary anthropologist at Florida State University, said in a written statement. “It provides new information that helps make sense of what is known about the surface of Einstein’s brain.”
In the study, Falk and her colleagues looked at a series of unpublished photographs of the brain, taken from many angles. The team analyzed the thickness of the brain’s corpus callosum — the large bundle of fibers that connects the brain’s two cerebral hemispheres and allows them to communicate with each other. Then the researchers compared that part of Einstein’s brain to the same structure in 15 elderly males and 52 younger men from 1905.

What’s at the center of a black hole? And what happens at the edge of a black hole?
Stephen Hawking has some big ideas that answer these big questions. Called one of the most influential physicists of our time, you might assume that his theories are too complicated for the layperson to wrap his or her mind around.
But in some ways, his ideas are easier to understand than you might think. Through animation and narration, The Guardian’s science correspondent Alok Jha explains them all in a two-and-half-minute cartoon in a way that everyone can easily grasp. Check it out above.
And why give Hawking’s theories the cartoon treatment?
“I suppose the incredible thing is that he came up with all these profound, provocative insights without the convenience of being able to write anything down,” Jha says in the video. Hawking, who authored A Brief History of Time, is paralyzed as a result of motor neuron disease.

Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo claims she didn’t want to do the controversial footwear photo shoot at the Taj Mahal, a move that could allegedly land her and others in jail for two years if found guilty.
On Monday, the Hindustan Times reported officials from the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) would file a police complaint against Miss Universe for her Oct. 6 visit to the Taj Mahal because of a footwear photo shoot that took place on the grounds of the world wonder.
Apparently, Culpo modeled pairs of shoes at the marble ledge known as the Diana Seat, using the Taj Mahal as a backdrop, without permission from ASI.
“The sandals from a bag she carried were taken and placed on the Diana Seat for shooting pictures, which is not permitted by the ASI (Archaeological Survey of India),” Taj caretaker Munazzar Ali told India’s Mid-Day paper, according to the Hindustan Times. “It also amounts to disrespect and insult.”

As the government shutdown reaches its ninth day, Americans have been left with news of one meeting after another as it seems the budget deadlock will never end.
Although last week’s reports of no end in sight were dismal, this week a bipartisan meeting between House Speaker John Boehner and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi may shine a glimmer of hope towards a resolution.
This news is hopefully a step in the right direction after a series of failed attempts at negotiation between Boehner and President Obama. But who is being more unreasonable out of the two?
Cartoonist Kevin Eason thinks that title belongs to Boehner as the house speaker has repeatedly displayed resistance toward meeting any kind of agreement. And the American people agree. Although most of the country is unhappy with lawmakers in both parties, Republicans have borne the brunt of the blame for the government shutdown, according to a recent poll.

A southern Illinois man was ordered jailed on $5 million bond Wednesday on charges he slashed and stabbed his 7-year-old niece after claiming, according to prosecutors, that she fell and pierced her neck on a stick and needed to be put “out of her misery.”
Justin DeRyke, 22, faces three counts of first-degree murder. Prosecutors allege he stabbed Willow Long in the chest with a knife Sunday.
As first reported by the Effingham Daily News, Effingham County State’s Attorney Bryan Kibler said DeRyke told investigators he was baby-sitting Willow and her 3-year-old brother. His sister and the children’s mother, Ciara DeRyke, lived at the Watson home with them and her and Justin’s parents.

We’ve spoken to many tiny home dwellers who think a small house is a happy house. And in an attempt to spread the word that small is beautiful, Jeremy Beasley is visiting unique and teeny homes and documenting the visits on film.
In the video above, Beasley visits one woman who lives in one of the shipping container houses, which are used as student housing in Amsterdam. Although, the home is a mere 215 square feet, the young woman says she has all the room she needs, including enough space for her cat. In fact, she loves her place so much, she cant ever see herself living in a big home.

Lawrence Yahle refused to believe his dad was dead — and he was right.
The 17-year-old Ohio resident rushed into his father Anthony’s Kettering Medical Center hospital room after doctors told him his dad could not be revived, according to ABC News.
“Dad, you’re not going to die today,” Yahle said as he burst into the room.
“Moments later,” ABC News reports, Anthony Yahle’s heart monitor “showed signs of life,” and doctors were able to successfully revive him, 45 minutes after his heart had stopped beating and he had been declared dead.
