The new aircraft, to be known as the V-280 Valor, is the company’s offering for the Army’s Future Vertical Lift technology demonstration program. FVL is a science and technology program to develop four classes of advanced aircraft – light, medium, heavy and ultra — that can take off and land vertically. We know what you’re thinking: The only thing missing from my ridiculously expensive, excessively tricked-out toilet is a USB port. Well it’s time you welcomed your posh posterior to the 21st century, because Kohler’s just released the second edition of its now $6,000 throne: the aptly named Numi Comfort Height. In addition to the aforementioned port, which will enable quicker software updates, the outfit has enhanced the commode with a Bluetooth receiver for streaming tunes to your tush; SD card reader for importing playlists and personalized welcome greetings; an accessible battery pack for flushing in the dark; and ambient lighting so you can keep the party going when it’s time to take care of business. If that wasn’t enough to elevate your toilet time, Kohler’s lifted the seat to a more comfortable 18 inches, which it says “makes sitting down and standing up easier for most adults.”

Rescuers searched the smoking remnants of a Texas farm town Thursday for survivors of a thunderous fertilizer plant explosion, gingerly checking smashed houses and apartments for anyone still trapped in debris while the community awaited word on the number of dead.
Initial reports put the fatalities as high as 15, but later in the day, authorities backed away from any estimate and refused to elaborate. More than 160 people were hurt.
A breathtaking band of destruction extended for blocks around the West Fertilizer Co. in the small community of West. The blast shook the ground with the strength of a small earthquake and crumpled dozens of homes, an apartment complex, a school and a nursing home. Its dull boom could be heard dozens of miles away from the town about 20 miles north of Waco.

Welcome to hell’s half acre, folks! That’s the affectionate way Stubb referred to what is now the location of Stubb’s BBQ in Austin. It is the place for good BBQ, good beer, and good music. So much history is jam packed into that joint. Stubb, respected war veteran and a real good cook,
opened up his first restaurant in 1968. It was all about that hickory pit and the blues. Legends like Stevie Ray Vaughn, Johnny Cash, Muddy Waters, and Willie Nelson all played there.
Even though Stubb passed a few years back, his spirit lives on in the food and the work ethic that drives the place now. Sarah, pictured above, started off as a bartender at Stubb’s and eventually worked her way up the ladder. She’s now the Special Events and Catering Director. There’s nothing like hard work to get you where you want to go.

Despite an impassioned push by President Barack Obama and an emotional lobbying effort by the families of mass shooting victims, proponents of a compromise measure to expand gun background checks on Wednesday fell six votes short of passage in the Senate.
The vote on the amendment was 54 to 46. Sixty votes were needed for the amendment to be adopted.
The deal was the result of a deal struck between Republican Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania and Democrat Joe Manchin of West Virginia. It would have extended existing background check rules to gun sales made online and at gun shows.

In what could be a major break in the Boston Marathon case, investigators are on the hunt for a man seen in a department-store surveillance video dropping off a bag at the site of the bombings, a Boston politician said Wednesday.
Separately, a law enforcement official confirmed that authorities have found an image of a potential suspect but don’t know his name.
The development – less than 48 hours after the attack that left three people dead and more than 170 wounded – marked a possible turning point in a case that has investigators analyzing photos and videos frame by frame for clues to who carried out the twin bombings and why.
City Council President Stephen Murphy, who said he was briefed by Boston police, said investigators saw the image on surveillance footage they got from a department store near the finish line, and…

Supplements such as fish oils and the memory-boosting herb gingko biloba do not prevent cognitive decline, according to new research.
But simple mental exercises, such as brain-training games, might help.
A review of clinical studies has found no evidence that herbal supplements, vitamins and even vitamins prevent cognitive decline in healthy older adults.
However the review, conducted by St Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Canada, did find evidence that enjoying a challenging crossword or sudoku may be of benefit.

The typical Western diet, high in fat and sugar, really does lead to an early grave, new research suggests.
A study of more than 5,000 civil servants found those who ate the most fried and sweet food, processed and red meat, white bread and butter and cream doubled their risk of premature death or ill health in old age.
It adds to evidence that ‘Western style food’ is the reason why heart disease claims about fried and sweet food, processed and red meat, white bread and butter and cream in the UK – more than any other illness.
The findings published in The American Journal of Medicine are based on a survey of British adults and suggest adherence to the diet increases the risk of premature death and disability later in life.

Authorities investigating the bombings at the Boston Marathon warned on Tuesday not to expect immediate answers about who was behind the explosions that ripped apart the race’s finish line Monday afternoon.
Even as the public poured in tips — more than 2,000 by noon on Tuesday — and the FBI vowed to “go to the ends of the Earth,” in its search, authorities speaking at an evening press conference in Boston did not announce any major break in the case.
“The investigation is in its infancy,” said Richard DesLauriers, the FBI’s special agent in charge. “We are doing this methodically … yet with a sense of urgency.”
