Can a person be “cured” of Type 2 Diabetes? Dr. Sarah Hallberg provides compelling evidence that it can, and the solution is simpler than you might think.
Dr. Sarah Hallberg is the Medical Director of the Medically Supervised Weight Loss Program at IU Health Arnett, a program she created. She is board certified in both obesity medicine and internal medicine and has a Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology. She has recently created what is only the second non-surgical weight loss rotation in the country for medical students. Her program has consistently exceeded national benchmarks for weight loss, and has been highly successful in reversing diabetes and other metabolic diseases. Dr. Hallberg is also the co-author of http://www.fitteru.us, a blog about health and wellness.

Nick Hanauer seems to have got more than a little peeved over the way that TED didn’t post up his little 5 minute speech. Vague insinuations that it was because he was talking about inequality are floating around. The real problem is that he was really talking about the economics of taxation. Unfortunately, the economics of taxation seems to be a subject he is deeply ignorant of. Which isn’t really a great advertisement for the sort of informative talks by experts that TED likes to broadcast on this here internet.

It’s commonly said that we humans use only about 10 percent of our brains, with some people attributing Einstein’s brilliance to his ability to stretch that paltry figure to 15 percent.
But in the video above, neurologist Dr. Richard Cytowic debunks these familiar notions, arguing that brain regions once believed to be “silent” are actually humming with activity.

Lizzie Velasquez is one of three known people in the world who suffers from a rare syndrome, which prevents her from gaining weight and has caused blindness in her right eye. But the 24-year-old consistently redefines what it means to be beautiful.
Some experts believe the Texas native has some form of Neonatal Progeroid Syndrome, a condition that causes accelerated aging and fat loss from the face and body, even though Velasquez eats about 60 small meals a day, the Telegraph reported.
Less empathetic people have found more odious labels for Velasquez’s condition.
When Velasquez was in high school, she discovered a video of herself on YouTube that was titled “World’s Ugliest Woman.” It had garnered millions of views.

Maj. Nidal Hasan was sentenced to death for killing 13 people and injuring more than 30 in a 2009 attack at Fort Hood, Texas. In the almost four years since that event, 16 more mass shootings have occurred in the United States, with fatalities ranging from four to 28, according to data compiled by Mother Jones.
Each such event inevitably begets the question: What motivates killers? What can turn a person to such an act of violence? A 2009 TED talk by neuroscientist Jim Fallon may hold one of the keys to the enduring mystery of human violence.
Fallon explains that after examining the brains of around 70 psychopathic killers, certain common traits became evident — every single brain showed signs of damage. Fallon was even able to pinpoint a specific area where murderers had experienced trauma: the orbital cortex. Furthermore, he found that the age at which the damage occurred was also a sign of whether someone would become a killer or not.
