Whether you’re a night owl or a morning person, your sleep habits reveal a lot about you–from your personality to the structure of your brain and even to your expected time of death.
That’s according to a new video from the YouTube video series ASAPScience, which explains the pros and cons of each sleeping preference.
“Early birds tend to display more positive social traits, such as being proactive and optimistic, and are less prone to depression or addictions to nicotine, alcohol, and food,” Mitchell Moffit, co-creator of the series, says in the video. “Night owls exhibit significantly less white matter [in their brains], and as a result, there are fewer pathways for feel-good hormones such as serotonin or dopamine to travel through, but it’s not all bad for the late-nighters. In fact, they tend to be much more creative, have been found to have higher cognitive abilities, and are known to be risk-takers.”

A Houston-area teenager accused of killing a girl in a satanic ritual had gouged out her eye as she begged for her life, prosecutors said Monday during the opening of the teen’s capital murder trial.
Opening statements began in the trial of 18-year-old Jose E. Reyes, who prosecutors say is responsible for the February death of 15-year-old Corriann Cervantes in a vacant apartment southeast of Houston.
A 16-year-old boy also is charged with capital murder and is expected to stand trial later.

This booking photo provided by the Houston Police Department shows Jose E. Reyes. Police say evidence of occultism was found in the weekend slaying of a 15-year-old girl. They say evidence of occultism was found on the girl’s body and in the vacant apartment where she was found. Authorities did not provide further details. Harris County jail records show 17-year-old Reyes was being held without bond Tuesday. A 16-year-old boy also was also charged and remains in custody awaiting an appearance in | ASSOCIATED PRESS

NASA’s new Orion spacecraft made a “bull’s-eye” Pacific splashdown Friday following a dramatic journey 3,604 miles beyond Earth. The achievement opens a new era of human exploration aimed at putting people on Mars.
The unmanned, 4½-hour test flight set at least one record: flying farther and faster than any capsule built for humans since the Apollo moon program.
“There’s your new spacecraft, America,” Mission Control commentator Rob Navias said as the Orion capsule neared the water 270 miles off Mexico’s Baja peninsula.

A grand jury in Staten Island voted Wednesday not to indict New York City police officer Daniel Pantaleo in the death of Eric Garner, a black man who died after being placed in a chokehold.
Garner, 43, died July 17 while he was being arrested for selling untaxed cigarettes. In a video of the arrest, which has since gone viral, Garner screams “I can’t breathe!” multiple times until his body goes limp. A medical examiner later said that he died of a chokehold, a move that is banned by the NYPD, and ruled his death a homicide.
Garner’s attorney said Wednesday that the “family is very upset and disappointed that these officers are not getting indicted for any criminal conduct.”

“There’s been an awakening. Have you felt it?” A billion years in the making, here’s the first trailer for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
The J.J. Abrams film stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong’o, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Andy Serkis, Gwendoline Christie and original trilogy cast members Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher. Boyega (in full Stormtrooper armor!) and Ridley are glimpsed for the first time in the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” trailer, which utilizes John Williams’ signature “Star Wars” theme to great effect. The Millennium Falcon is there too.

According to data released by Amazon on the most highlighted passage in Kindle ebooks, the most popular passage from the Bible is one on reducing anxiety and finding trust in God.
The specific passage is Philippians 4:6-7 (New International Version), which states:
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

A health care millionaire who fatally drugged her developmentally disabled son was convicted of manslaughter Wednesday in what her defense portrayed as a mercy killing by a mother trying to escape a labyrinth of fear and despair.
Gigi Jordan had been charged with murder after her 8-year-old son’s death in a pill-strewn luxury hotel room in February 2010. Jurors found her guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter after her lawyers argued she was overcome by emotion when she killed Jude Mirra and tried to kill herself.
She faces up to 25 years in prison. The murder charge could have put her behind bars for life. Her sentencing hasn’t been set, but she’s due back in court in January.

Jeff Dornbusch knew there was something odd about a pile of gray rocks he spotted more than a decade ago during a hike in the southern New Mexico desert, and a closer look confirms that he was right.
Dornbusch, a museum volunteer in Truth or Consequences, N.M., relocated those rocks in 2012 and notified local scientists, who identified the rocks as fragments of a 90-million-year-old turtle fossil, the Las Cruces Sun-News reported.
Since then, researchers have returned to the site where the rocks were found and excavated the rest of the turtle.
