People from at least 15 countries were killed in the attacks. At least 100 families traveled to France to identify the bodies.

Residents of a stretch of Mexico’s Pacific Coast dotted with resorts and fishing villages boarded up homes and bought supplies ahead of Friday’s arrival of Hurricane Patricia, a monster Category 5 storm that forecasters say is the strongest ever recorded in the Western hemisphere.
With maximum sustained winds near 200 mph (325 kph), Patricia is the strongest storm ever recorded in the eastern Pacific or in the Atlantic, said Dave Roberts, a hurricane specialist at the U.S. National Hurricane Center.
Patricia’s power was comparable to that of Typhoon Haiyan, which left more than 7,300 dead or missing in the Philippines two years ago, according to the U.N.’s World Meteorological Organization.

Every week, The WorldPost asks an expert to shed light on a topic that’s making headlines around the world. Today, we speak with investigative journalist Anabel Hernández.
As one of Mexico’s leading investigative journalists, Anabel Hernández has dedicated the past decade to investigating her country’s drug war — one of the most dangerous projects a reporter could ask for. Her 2010 book Los señores del narco, translated into English as Narcoland, detailed the extensive government corruption that allowed Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán and his Sinaloa cartel to become one of the most powerful criminal enterprises in the world.
Working in partnership with journalist Steve Fisher at The Investigative Reporting Program (IRP) at U.C. Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism , Hernández has also been at the forefront of one of the leading investigative reports into the case of the missing 43 students from the Ayotzinapa teachers college who were attacked by Mexican police in September.

Pope Francis’ confirmed Monday that his trip to the United States this fall will include stops in Washington and New York City, in addition to the previously announced visit to Philadelphia.
The pontiff told reporters he wishes he could enter the U.S. through the Mexican border “as a sign of brotherhood and of help to the immigrants,” but will probably just fly directly to the East Coast.
“You know that [to] go to Mexico without going to visit the Madonna [of Guadalupe] would be a drama. A war could break out,” he said, laughing. “I think there will only be those three cities. Later there will be time to go to Mexico.”

The head of Mexico’s Sinaloa Cartel was captured overnight by U.S. and Mexican authorities at a hotel in Mazatlan, Mexico, the Associated Press has learned.
A senior U.S. law enforcement official said Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman was taken alive overnight in the beach resort town. The official was not authorized to discuss the arrest and spoke on condition of anonymity.
Guzman, 56, was found with an unidentified woman. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Marshals Service were “heavily involved” in the capture, the official said. No shots were fired.

As a young boy, David Amaya was told that his mother abandoned him in Mexico and fled for the United States.
The truth is that Kathy Amaya has been looking for David for more than 30 years. She told KNSD this week that David — now 37 — is back in the country after her estranged husband abducted him and took him to Mexico when he was a young child.
“I went to file a report, and they were saying they couldn’t do anything because he was in Mexico,” Kathy told WEAU.
She said she never gave up the search and hopes to finally be able to see him in person — as a man.
She explained that her ex picked up little David from her sister in Chicago and never returned. Decades later, she got an unlikely call.
“The border patrol in San Diego called me and told me that they had someone detained that was crossing the border and he said his name was David Amaya,” she told WEAU.

A Wisconsin woman who went missing more than nine years ago has been found living in Mexico with her three children.
Connie McCallister, 26, was found after a church missionary in Mexico reported seeing her to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children three months ago, according to the Wausau Daily Herald.
“We have confirmed, through conversations on Skype, that this is really Connie, and she did ask for help in getting home,” Wausau Police Capt. Greg Hagenbucher told the newspaper. “But she won’t come back without her children.”
