A model of what will be the world’s largest religious monument was unveiled on Wednesday in Patna, India, by Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, reports the Times of India.
The proposed Virat Ramayan Mandir will dwarf others, as it will stand almost double the height of world-famous temple complex Angkor Wat in Cambodia, which is 215 feet high, according to India Today. Angkor Wat is the current holder of the title, “World’s Largest Religious Monument.”
The 190-acre site is already being readied for construction, which will commence soon, according to Acharya Kishore Kunal, who is the secretary of the group behind the project, Mahavir Mandir Trust. The complex will include 18 temples with high spires, with a jaw-dropping seating capacity of 20,000 people.

Everyone knows how to lose weight. All you have to do is eat less and exercise more, right?
WRONG. People who have lost significant amounts of weight know that making a lifestyle change is about so much more than calorie restriction and getting a gym membership. It’s also a massive mental challenge that requires stamina, rational thought and emotional support. In other words, it’s often a mind makeover, first and foremost.

Go ahead, indulge.
Teens who eat a lot of chocolate tend to have lower levels of total and abdominal fat, according to a new study in the journal Nutrition.
The findings are based on data from 1,458 youths ages 12 to 17, who were part of the Healthy Lifestyle in Europe by Nutrition in Adolescence study, which examines lifestyle habits among youths in nine countries in Europe.
Researchers from the University of Granada found an association between higher consumption of chocolate, and lower levels of total and abdominal fat (as measured through body fat percentage, body mass index and waist circumference).
Plus, the chocolate consumption seemed to hold true independently of other potential factors, such as physical activity, fruit and vegetable consumption, saturated fat consumption, sex and energy intake.

Thought we knew every part of the human body? Think again.
Surgeons in Belgium recently discovered a new ligament in the human knee. Publishing their research in the peer-reviewed Journal of Anatomy, the knee specialists provided the first anatomical description of the fibrous tissue, called the anterolateral ligament, or ALL, for short.
Though French surgeon Paul Segond proposed the existence of an additional ligament in the human knee as early as 1879, the structure evaded classification for many years.
Working from the French surgeon’s notion, the team, led by the University of Leuven’s Dr. Steven Claes, dissected cadaver knees in search of the “pearly, fibrous band” Segond described. What they found was a “well-defined ligamentous structure” that connects the femur (thighbone) with the anterolateral tibia (shinbone) in 40 of the 41 human knees they dissected, the authors wrote in the study.

Another day, another “creature” on Mars.
Eagle-eyed UFO enthusiasts recently announced they’ve spotted yet another “animal” on the red planet. On Nov. 6, the UFO Sightings Daily blog declared that NASA’s Curiosity rover had taken what appears to be a photograph of a Martian iguana
“To say it’s just a rock would be very closed minded to the evidence at hand,” Scott C. Waring, the blog’s founder, noted of the curious image taken in January. “[N]ot only does it have a body, but look closely and you will see its lower neck skin, its mouth line, nostril hole and even an open eye with a large brow over it.”

A family determined to save their kidnapped relative tracked her down to an abandoned Louisiana house, saving her life and killing her captor after she went missing for almost three full days, according to multiple sources.
Bethany Arceneaux, 29, was allegedly abducted Wednesday afternoon in Lafayette by her ex-boyfriend Scott Thomas, also 29, and the father to her 2-year-old son, The Daily Advertiser first reports.
A witness to the abduction, Derrimetrie Robinson, said she saw Arceneaux honking her car horn for help in a parking lot as Thomas forced his way into her car and attacked her. When Robinson rushed to the scene, Arceneaux begged the woman to take her son, according to the Advertiser.
Robinson managed to grab the 2-year-old boy during the struggle, as Thomas shoved Arceneaux into his car and sped away, she said.

As a young boy, David Amaya was told that his mother abandoned him in Mexico and fled for the United States.
The truth is that Kathy Amaya has been looking for David for more than 30 years. She told KNSD this week that David — now 37 — is back in the country after her estranged husband abducted him and took him to Mexico when he was a young child.
“I went to file a report, and they were saying they couldn’t do anything because he was in Mexico,” Kathy told WEAU.
She said she never gave up the search and hopes to finally be able to see him in person — as a man.
She explained that her ex picked up little David from her sister in Chicago and never returned. Decades later, she got an unlikely call.
“The border patrol in San Diego called me and told me that they had someone detained that was crossing the border and he said his name was David Amaya,” she told WEAU.

Sick day? What’s that?! Nearly 90 percent of office workers surveyed by Staples this year admitted to showing up on the job even when they knew they were contagious. That’s up from last year’s findings that 80 percent of employees went to work when they were under the weather.
Their reasoning? They don’t want to fall behind. Nearly half — 45 percent — said an ever-growing workload convinced them commuting in was the right decision, according to the survey. It’s not that they don’t know it’s not the healthy decision. Compared to last year, more employees said they understand how long the flu is contagious for, where germs congregate in the office and how long the virus can live on those shared surfaces. Still, sick coworkers are coughing and sneezing — and infecting others — in cubicles all over the country.
In addition to spreading germs, sick workers also aren’t doing the bottom line any favors. If you’re not feeling so hot, you’ll probably be less productive than a typical day at the office anyway, a phenomenon known as presenteeism that ends up costing employers more than if you just took the day off, WebMD reported.

Habitable alien planets similar to Earth may not be that rare in the universe, a new study suggests.
About one in five sunlike stars observed by NASA’s planet-hunting Kepler spacecraft has an Earth-size planet in the so-called habitable zone, where liquid water — and, potentially life — could exist, according to the new study. If these results apply elsewhere in the galaxy, the nearest such planet could be just 12 light-years away.
“Human beings have been looking at the stars for thousands of years,” said study researcher Erik Petigura, a graduate student at the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley). “How many of those stars have planets that are in some way like Earth? We’re very excited today to start to answer that question,” Petigura told SPACE.com. [9 Exoplanets That Could Host Alien Life]

What killed King Tut? And what happened to his body afterward?
British archaeologist Howard Carter first discovered the Egyptian pharaoh’s well-preserved mummy in 1922. Ever since, scientists have tried to figure out what killed the pharaoh, who reigned for 10 years until his death at age 19 around the year 1324 B.C. Theories include everything from epilepsy to blunt force trauma.
But there’s never been a clear consensus.
Now British egyptologist Dr. Chris Naunton, director of the Egypt Exploration Society, has thrown his hat into the already-crowded ring. A new documentary will present his findings, which suggest King Tut died in a chariot accident — and then later spontaneously combusted inside his sarcophagus due to a botched embalming.
Holy smokes!
