People love sharing lists — the list is one of the formats that fare well in a Filter Bubble world. So here’s a list of five of the most interesting ideas I’ve come across since I gave my presentation at TED and published The Filter Bubble: What The Internet is Hiding from You.

What a difference a generation makes. While the original Kindle Fire impressed, there was only one thing that really made it worth considering: it was cheap. Really cheap. But, when we got our hands on the 7-inch, 720p Kindle Fire HD a few months back we had an honest-to-gosh nice device — that happened to be cheap. And what do we have here? Why, it’s a slightly larger version of that very same tablet, but at a significantly higher cost.

How do you raise two sons who will make enough money by age 30 to ensure you have a very comfortable retirement? Tell them their youth is no barrier to achieving. Take them on vacations to developing countries where their imaginations can run wild with ideas for solving the planet’s greatest problems. And teach them to rebel in the right ways.

The problem with invisibility cloaks is that up until now, they always reflect a little bit of light, so the object being hidden is partially visible. Researchers at Duke University tweaked their fabrication technique to make up for this flaw and created a device that doesn’t give off that reflected image.

It’s tricky being a parent these days, especially when technology is involved.
On one hand, you want to give your kids the independence to make decisions on their own, learn from those actions, and mature accordingly. On the other hand, they’re still your baby—no matter what the age— and you want to protect them as best you can.

News keeps getting worse for Denise Helms, the 22-year-old California woman whose racist, threatening Facebook status about President Barack Obama went viral this week.
