This one is for the astronomy people out there. A few years ago, during a routine study of the night sky, astronomers stumbled into a big hole, literally. Finding a small void is nothing new, and several small ones have been recorded in the past.
What makes this extraordinary is the sheer size of it? Imagine an area over one billion light years across with no stars, planets, galaxies, black holes, dark matter, just absolutely nothing. It is over 1000 times bigger than anything previously seen or expected.
Astronomers have been researching this void since they first found it and are not much closer to an answer. What they can agree on is that a void this large is not normal, what is still unknown is why it is so big. Could the void be close enough to an area with more gravity and mass that over billions of years, the empty spot lost its mass to the stronger one? Could it be an anomaly that we just haven’t seen before? Is it possible that there is matter inside that we can’t see? So many questions, but no scientific answers which leaves this empty space in the unexplained mystery category.

Is this Empty Space dangerous?

You’ve probably heard the cliché that humans are just tiny specks in the universe. It might literally be true. A recent study gives more evidence to a theory that we’re actually tiny specks inside of a gigantic void of nothingness — and it’s the biggest known void of nothingness in the entire universe.
Here’s the theory: Imagine our entire universe as a block of Swiss cheese. The cheese itself is made of several “galactic filaments,” which are honeycomb-like network of multiple galaxies and stars. The holes in the block of cheese are cosmic voids, which literally are giant bubbles of near-nothingness — they might have a few galaxies in them, but they’re not dense.

The Republicans’ signature campaign promise to repeal and replace Obamacare came to a screeching halt Monday night after Sens. Mike Lee of Utah and Jerry Moran of Kansas came together, shocked Capitol Hill and vowed to vote against the latest draft of the GOP’s health care bill.
.
“We should not put our stamp of approval on bad policy,” Moran said in a bold statement that derailed Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s bid to overhaul the Affordable Care Act. McConnell could only lose two senators and still pass the bill, and Maine’s Susan Collins and Kentucky’s Rand Paul had already defected.

After an Australian woman was shot dead by police in Minneapolis, experts are questioning why the officers’ body cameras were not turned on during the encounter.
Justine Ruszczyk, who used the last name Damond, reportedly called 911 after hearing a noise near her home on Saturday, according to her stepson-to-be. She was fatally shot by one of the responding officers.
Although Minneapolis police have not named the officers involved, NBC affiliate KARE quoted sources as identifying the officer who shot Damond as Mohammed Noor. Police sources also told KARE that Noor, who was in the squad car’s passenger seat, aimed across his partner and out the window to fire at Damond.

Sometimes there is no greater feeling than getting in the car and just driving. Abandoning all chores and grocery stores and just being free. Opening the windows and letting the breeze blow through you hair. Even better if the breeze is from the ocean and the air is salty and fresh. Finding unexpected treasures along the way, a roadside fruit and vegetable stand, an antique store or a café with fresh made goodies for the road. Packing a picnic, stopping for a walk along a beach you’ve never seen before, to clear your mind and stretch your legs. These are all the things that make a seacoast drive a must-do, just for the pure joy of it. — from Nova Scotia homepage

Once a year, toward the end of October, a mystery takes over the river and sky at Thailand’s Mekong River. For longer than the oldest resident can remember, the river lights up with hundreds to thousands of fireballs which can shoot over 300 feet in the air.
The fireballs are bright red and can be so small you can just barely see it or they can be as big as a basketball. The fireballs gently rise in the night air into the heavens where they are no longer visible.
Due to the timing of the fireballs each year which happens during the Buddhist celebration commemorating Buddha’s return as Naga, the sea serpent, most devout Buddhist believe that the fireballs signify Buddha honoring the end of Vassa.
Scientists have, for years, held on to the explanation that either oarfish in the water or swamp gas, which is the buildup of methane that finally releases into the air with a burst of fire, is what the Naga Fire balls really are. Neither of these opinions solve the mystery, and may only add to it, since the Naga Fireballs happen only once a year at the same time. So science, good guess, but this one needs a bit more work to be considered solved.
.
Are these Fireballs Coincidence or Heavenly Intervention?

But they may not be acting alone.
.
Four years since piracy attacks reached their peak, CNN sources have found threats on Somali waters are broader than ever.
Pirate kingpins
CNN has learned that the United Nations and the United States are investigating at least two pirate kingpins for providing material support to terror groups.
.
That material support includes helping factions of the two terror groups, al Qaeda linked al-Shabaab and Somalia’s ISIS faction, who ironically despise each other, smuggle weapons and perhaps even people across the Gulf of Aden.
.
One of them is Mohamed Garfanje, the kingpin of the Hobyo-Haradhere Piracy Network, which thrived in the tiny fishing village of Haradhere — often considered the birthplace of modern Somali piracy.
