Thank you for your excellent presentation, Robyn. There is a Company you’ll be pleased to know about because it directly addresses the shortage of organic farmland. Iroquois Valley Farms, LLC, a Certified ‘B’ Company (I am Director of Impact and investor in IVF) connects investors with local and organic farmland. Please look us up. …In more news, It was announced today that Seralini’s study “Long-term toxicity of a Roundup herbicide and a Roundup-tolerant genetically modified maize”, as well as the story of his research being pulled, called “Conflicts of interests, confidentiality and censorship in health risk assessment…” have been republished in Environmental Sciences Europe
The antidote to racism partly lies in empathy, or the willingness to “walk a mile in someone else’s shoes,” as the saying goes. But scientists from universities across Europe are taking the maxim one step further, providing people an opportunity to experience life in someone else’s skin by experimenting with virtual reality as a means of helping people shed racial stereotypes.
Researchers from London and Barcelona teamed up to discuss their recent experiments on virtual reality and race in an opinion piece for the journal Trends in Cognitive Sciences, published Dec. 15. The researchers found that if people got the chance to physically experience their own body with different skin colors (or ages and sexes), their unconscious biases against other racial groups could be diminished.
This isn’t merely a question of changing mentality or perception. The experience of “living” in different skin triggers sensory signals in the brain that allow it to expand its understanding of what a body can look like. This can “cause people to change their attitudes about others,” wrote the study’s co-researcher, Professor Mel Slater, a part-time professor of virtual environments at the University College London and research professor at the University of Barcelona.
Late comedian Joan Rivers had a reputation for being charitable, and her will, recently obtained by Page Six, upholds her generous character.
Of the estimated $150 million fortune Rivers left behind, she designated a portion of the funds to go to several nonprofit and non-governmental organizations: Guide Dogs for the Blind, God’s Love We Deliver, the Jewish Guild for the Blind, the Simon Wiesenthal Center, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Jewish Home and Hospital Foundation.
Melissa Rivers, the “Fashion Police” star’s only child, was named an executor of the estate. Other beneficiaries include the entertainer’s grandson Cooper, niece Caroline Waxler and nephew Andrew Waxler, and five members of Rivers’ staff.
Applying makeup is no easy feat. There’s all that accenting and accentuating, not to mention the contouring involved. Learning to properly administer cosmetics is an art form in itself that can result in captivating visages. But after gazing upon artist Elly Heise’s work, we can’t help but fall in love with the dilettante look.
“There’s been an awakening. Have you felt it?” A billion years in the making, here’s the first trailer for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
The J.J. Abrams film stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong’o, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Andy Serkis, Gwendoline Christie and original trilogy cast members Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher. Boyega (in full Stormtrooper armor!) and Ridley are glimpsed for the first time in the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” trailer, which utilizes John Williams’ signature “Star Wars” theme to great effect. The Millennium Falcon is there too.
People turn to the Bible for support with many challenges, and chief among them is anxiety.
According to data released by Amazon on the most highlighted passage in Kindle ebooks, the most popular passage from the Bible is one on reducing anxiety and finding trust in God.
The specific passage is Philippians 4:6-7 (New International Version), which states:
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Mike Nichols, one of the most celebrated and prolific directors in the history of American film and stage, whose work included the movies “The Graduate” and “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”, died on Wednesday night. He was 83.
His death was announced Thursday morning by James Goldston, the president of ABC News, who described him as a “true visionary.” Nichols was married to the ABC anchor Diane Sawyer.
Nichols was one of a small handful of people to win an Emmy, a Tony, a Grammy and an Oscar. His body of work included some of the defining American films of the second half of the 20th century, among them “Working Girl,” “Silkwood” and “The Birdcage.” He won an Oscar in 1968 for the seminal comedy “The Graduate.”
Blistering cold air blasted across most of the country Tuesday, and a lake-effect snowstorm hammered the Great Lakes and parts of New York, hitting some places with more than 6 feet of snow — so much that the National Guard was activated around Buffalo. More than 100 miles of the New York State Thruway were closed, trapping a college basketball team on its bus more than 24 hours and counting.
The National Weather Service said Tuesday night that some areas of the Buffalo suburbs were approaching 76 inches of snow since Monday — that’s the record for snowfall over a 24-hour period anywhere in the U.S. ever.
“This is a very intense storm, one of those record storms that we are going to remember for a few years beyond this date,” Buffalo Public Works Commissioner Steven Stepniak said.
Daredevil acrobat Nik Wallenda gingerly crossed two wires, at one point blindfolded and without a safety harness or a net, strung between two Chicago skyscrapers on a Sunday evening in a derring-do high-wire act above the Windy City. Holding a pole, Wallenda cautiously moved across a wire that was 3/4-inch thick. With cheers and whistles coming from a crowd gathered below, the stunt was captured live on the Discovery Channel and streamed at SkyScraperLive.
It was the latest feat for Wallenda, who in June 2013 became the first person to walk across the Grand Canyon on a wire. Wallenda took on a 15-degree incline for the first part of the Chicago walk and then wore a blindfold during the second part of it. He trained at his home near Sarasota, Florida, on exact replicas of the two wires he crossed in Chicago.
By completing part two of the challenge, Discovery said Wallenda had performed the world’s highest walk wearing a blindfold. Wallenda also broke the world record for the incline aspect, too, Reuters reported, citing a Guinness World Records’ representative interviewed on the Discovery Channel.
In the world, human beings are facing various problems. People who are full of greed, anger, and ignorance are seen to be fighting with each other in words and deeds. As the fighting continues, various problems such as civil wars, wars of aggression, and wars of aggression are occurring. As world peace is being destroyed, humans are facing unbearable problems. Innocent children and women are not getting the rights they deserve and deserve. I can't think of one thing every time. What is it? The United Nations. If we look at the responsibilities and duties of the United Nations, I think it is not suitable for solving the problems that are happening in the world today. In fact, the United Nations and the World Security Council, such an organization must rule the world, must be able to give orders, and must have various ways to obey orders. There must be no organization that can influence more than that organization. There should be experts from each country. They can even dominate the superpowers like the US, China, and Britain. Only then will global peace be achieved quickly. Now, if a country with power develops more militarily, economically, or socially than its own country, then powerful countries will jealously seek out enemies and wage war. Or they will attack with fighter jets. In this, innocent people are losing their lives. No one understands the value of a life. You should think about how to achieve global peace by controlling these. If the US continues to be the permanent president of the UN, world peace will never be achieved. If you think carefully, no one sees that they are working for the common good, but for their own benefit, for the benefit of their own country. The permanent president of the UN and the Security Council has rejected this, As a young Rohingya, I have come to realize that only by electing the president and secretary from among the countries in the world through a secret ballot system and governing the world fairly can we achieve global peace. The United Nations and the Security Council are organizations in which any country must govern, give orders, and make them obey their orders. For example, only when a defendant is tried in court can we hold the leaders of the countries in check and control them, can we achieve global peace smoothly. Otherwise, it will not be easy for powerful countries to use various excuses to end this war every year, every year, for the benefit of themselves and their countries. No country's leaders pay any attention to the words of the United Nations and the Security Council. If we look at it in practice, look at the Rohingya issue. Myanmar is a small country. Even that country has been under siege for 8 years. What action can be taken? Why is the UN and the Security Council Powerless? Without such Power, how can the organization bring about global peace? Everyone should think about it. Whether there is a veto or a strong one, all countries in the world can only achieve global peace if they are subject to the UN and the Security Council. Seek peace in the quiet embrace of nature. Peace is an indispensable need of the human race. It is not as if one person can kill another person, and it is as if one country can attack another country, but instead of trying to build peace, we must try to destroy the peace now, and the world is getting hotter and is on the verge of collapse. I especially appeal to all the world experts to urgently try to bring about peace in all parts of the world. Mr, Noor Muhamed Arkhan Rohingya Youth Myanmar
