Six-time US Open champion Serena Williams of the United States eased past Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic, 6-3, 6-2 on Friday to reach the round of 16 at the US Open for the 18th time in her storied career.
“Had to go out there on business,” Williams said, in her post-match press conference. “I think I tried to do that with all three matches thus far. It was just different because I know that [Muchova] could play today. I knew what she could do.”
No.8 seed Williams fell in the third round of her first-ever US Open in 1998, but since that loss, she has been undefeated in third-round matches at her home Grand Slam event, improving to 18-1 overall following her 73-minute victory over World No.44 Muchova.
Hurricane Dorian hurtled toward the United States and strengthened to a 115-mph, Category 3 “major” hurricane Friday ahead of its expected landfall Monday into Tuesday along Florida’s east coast, forecasters say.
Hurricane warnings were put in place in the northwestern Bahamas as Dorian approached the island nation. A direct hit in the Bahamas is likely on Sunday into Monday.
The storm was slowly turning west on Friday as it makes it way back toward land and is expected to strengthen in the coming days, the National Hurricane Center said. Dorian is forecast slam the southeastern United States as a possible Category 4 storm.
Forecasters say Dorian will likely slow down considerably as it approaches Florida, allowing for heavy rainfall, dangerous winds and life-threatening storm surge to linger.
The longtime host announced his return to the show in a video on Thursday. It will be his 36th season, but the first since he underwent treatment for Stage IV pancreatic cancer in March.
“I’ve gone through a lot of chemotherapy and thankfully, I’m on the mend and that’s all I can hope for right now,” Trebek, 79, said in the video above.
In May, the game show legend announced he was responding well to treatment and that doctors said he was “near remission.”
Ever since Boots first pioneered the art of offering a sandwich, snack and drink together for a bargain price, the UK has been infatuated with the “meal deal”. Every week, twice a week, a third of us walk into a supermarket and hand over £3 in exchange for this holy trinity of lunchtime sustenance.
Yet while the “deal” part is self-explanatory, nothing is as it seems when it comes to the “meal”. You might be under the impression, after consuming a chicken and bacon sandwich, a small pack of Cool Original Doritos, and a Naked smoothie, that you’ve eaten one meal: lunch. In reality, you’ve just eaten 5.8 servings of food.
According to the back of a 55g packet of Doritos, 30g constitutes one serving. That means that just over halfway through your lunchtime snack, you should roll up the rest of the bag and save it for another day. A 360ml bottle of Naked smoothie – in an act of treacherous betrayal to anyone who’s ever thought “Ooh, go on then, I’ll be healthy today” – contains somewhere between two or three portions of the drink.
The sun rose Wednesday over an anxiety-stricken island as the first major cyclone since Hurricane María barreled this way across the Caribbean.
But as Hurricane Dorian skirted northward, the sun peered between parting clouds over a Puerto Rico at ease.
The electricity was up and running. The roads were clear. By 5 p.m., restaurants in this municipality on the northeastern coast started to open, playing bachata music and serving hot alcapurrias, cold Medalla beers and fresh coconuts.
“It’s a relief,” said Alexis Ramos, 30, whose family runs Vinny’s Restaurant & Pescadería in Malecón de Naguabo, a beachfront town on Puerto Rico’s east coast. Earlier in the day, he hammered wooden board onto the windows, hoping to avoid the same destruction María caused nearly two years ago.

Tennessee death row inmate Donnie Edward Johnson did not want a special last meal before his execution Thursday. Instead, he wanted his supporters to donate meals to the homeless.
Condemned inmates in Tennessee can spend up to $20 on the last meal before they are executed. Johnson, who was executed by lethal injection Thursday night at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville, declined to pick one.
Johnson’s attorney, federal public defender Kelley Henry, said the decision was a tribute to executed Tennessee inmate Philip Workman, who had requested that the $20 for his last meal in 2007 go toward vegetarian pizzas for a local homeless shelter.
Prison staff did not send a pizza to the shelter, but Workman’s supporters did. Johnson wants the people who supported him to do the same.
We’re a little obsessed with moving fat around. And no, we’re not talking about stealing bags of liposuction leftovers to make soap.
As a society, we seem perpetually unhappy with wherever our body chooses to store its lipids. Pop music keeps telling us we should exercise enough to get “little in the middle” while maintaining, as they say, “much back.” Countless workouts promise to target only “problem areas.” And then there are the more drastic means of fat reallocation: The Kardashians move it from their stomachs to their butts, while others take it from their thighs and stick it in their breasts. They turn to these surgeries because nature is just too good at stashing away our excess energy in the form of flab.
In the world, human beings are facing various problems. People who are full of greed, anger, and ignorance are seen to be fighting with each other in words and deeds. As the fighting continues, various problems such as civil wars, wars of aggression, and wars of aggression are occurring. As world peace is being destroyed, humans are facing unbearable problems. Innocent children and women are not getting the rights they deserve and deserve. I can't think of one thing every time. What is it? The United Nations. If we look at the responsibilities and duties of the United Nations, I think it is not suitable for solving the problems that are happening in the world today. In fact, the United Nations and the World Security Council, such an organization must rule the world, must be able to give orders, and must have various ways to obey orders. There must be no organization that can influence more than that organization. There should be experts from each country. They can even dominate the superpowers like the US, China, and Britain. Only then will global peace be achieved quickly. Now, if a country with power develops more militarily, economically, or socially than its own country, then powerful countries will jealously seek out enemies and wage war. Or they will attack with fighter jets. In this, innocent people are losing their lives. No one understands the value of a life. You should think about how to achieve global peace by controlling these. If the US continues to be the permanent president of the UN, world peace will never be achieved. If you think carefully, no one sees that they are working for the common good, but for their own benefit, for the benefit of their own country. The permanent president of the UN and the Security Council has rejected this, As a young Rohingya, I have come to realize that only by electing the president and secretary from among the countries in the world through a secret ballot system and governing the world fairly can we achieve global peace. The United Nations and the Security Council are organizations in which any country must govern, give orders, and make them obey their orders. For example, only when a defendant is tried in court can we hold the leaders of the countries in check and control them, can we achieve global peace smoothly. Otherwise, it will not be easy for powerful countries to use various excuses to end this war every year, every year, for the benefit of themselves and their countries. No country's leaders pay any attention to the words of the United Nations and the Security Council. If we look at it in practice, look at the Rohingya issue. Myanmar is a small country. Even that country has been under siege for 8 years. What action can be taken? Why is the UN and the Security Council Powerless? Without such Power, how can the organization bring about global peace? Everyone should think about it. Whether there is a veto or a strong one, all countries in the world can only achieve global peace if they are subject to the UN and the Security Council. Seek peace in the quiet embrace of nature. Peace is an indispensable need of the human race. It is not as if one person can kill another person, and it is as if one country can attack another country, but instead of trying to build peace, we must try to destroy the peace now, and the world is getting hotter and is on the verge of collapse. I especially appeal to all the world experts to urgently try to bring about peace in all parts of the world. Mr, Noor Muhamed Arkhan Rohingya Youth Myanmar
