There are the basic things you can do to protect your data and your phone, like avoiding public Wi-Fi networks, enabling built-in tools like “Find My iPhone,” and using a good password. Both iOS and Android phones offer options for turning off “location services,” so apps can’t track your coordinates. But in an age of cyberattacks from renegade hackers, non-state actors, and government spies, it’s not a terrible idea to arm your phone with apps that provide encrypted communication, anonymous browsing, and theft protection.

Aching for a bigger iPhone? You may be in luck, because if The Wall Street Journal‘s latest report is correct, Apple is planning to launch two iPhones with a larger screen this year.
According to the report, one bigger iPhone will have a 4.5-inch display, while the other will have a screen “bigger than 5 inches”.
Exact dates when these devices might hit the market are absent, but the 4.5-inch phone is reportedly near mass production, while the bigger device is still in “preliminary development.”
Contrary to a rumor we’ve heard in Nov. 2013, this report claims neither device will have a curved screen.
Both devices will be made of metal, and — the boldest claim in the report — Apple will stop producing plastic phones, such as the iPhone 5C.

Beats Music as a music streaming service differentiates itself from the crowd by combining human and automatic algorithms to provide you with the right music at the right time. And as the app’s description says, all you have to do is hit the play button on your iOS device. Beats Music offers access to more than 20 million songs covering every genre. Are you ready to pick up your very own pair of Google Glasses? Well, you’ll have to be patient: There’s finally a vague release window in sight, but you’ll be a couple years older before it arrives.
During an interview with Bloomberg Television, Google co-founder Sergey Brin announced his hopes to release the consumer version of Project Glass, Google’s augmented reality specs, sometime in 2014. The company is also aiming for a price point below $1,500.
Brin demoed the “glasses” at Google’s I/O 2012 developers conference in Califorina with a stunning presentation that involved a daredevil leap from an airplane; the skydiver wearing the device captured video of his fall while conference attendees gripped their seats and watched it projected live onto a large screen in the conference hall. After the presentation, Brin announced that those interested in purchasing a developer-only prototype of Project Glass, dubbed the “Explorer Edition,” would be able to do so for a staggering $1,500. Those units will ship in 2013, said Brin.

Though Samsung’s snarky ads like to make jest of iPhone users, while Apple’s just show how well various functions — the camera, the music player and FaceTime — work, new information from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) suggests those Samsung ads aren’t too effective. As reported by Fortune, the CIRP report reveals that three times more people switch from Samsung handsets to iPhone than the other way around.
The CIRP numbers also show that iPhone users tend to skew younger (about 69 percent are younger than 35 years old, compared to about 64 percent for Samsung), have more income (only 32 percent of Apple buyers have less than a US$50,000 income, while almost 45 percent of Samsung buyers are in that range) and are more educated (about 48 percent with a college degree or greater, compared to only about 32 percent for Samsung buyers).

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has summoned representatives of the four largest smartphone makers to a summit next week where he plans to press them on their failure to address soaring thefts of their products.
Schneiderman, along with San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon, will question Apple, Google, Samsung and Microsoft officials in New York about why they have not yet developed technology that renders stolen mobile devices inoperable, eliminating the incentive for theft.
About 1.6 million Americans had their smartphones stolen last year, according to Gascon, and around 40 percent of robberies in major cities now involve mobile devices, according to the Federal Communications Commission.

Air Microphone is a US$0.99 app that uses AirPlay to connect your iPhone to an Apple TV or AirPlay-equipped amplifier to give you a wireless microphone.
The app is not hard to use. After launch, go to the multitasking bar on the iPhone and select any AirPlay device and start talking. In my tests, the app worked pretty well on an AppleTV with a few caveats. There are options for three EQ settings. “Normal” was just fine. “Less Bass” made me sound like a parrot, and “More Bass” made me sound like a giant Cyclops. Way too thundering, if you get my drift. The app also lets you select a photo to display on the Apple TV during your talk, but the image is proportioned like the iPhone screen in portrait mode, so I don’t think it adds too much.

While many may disagree on the whole concept, the “theory of evolution” actually applies in the Tech world, in particular the world of smart phones. Mobiles phones are not just mobile phones any more. They are not the simple bricks that were used for dialing numbers and occasionally sending costly short messages. Mobiles have evolved a lot over the last decade, and the evolution has been a sweet ride. Technology has been very kind to them on all fronts. They are not just boring slabs of bulky plastic, they are beautiful, thin and shiny lusty devices. They don’t have many clunky buttons now, they have capacitive touch screens. Most importantly though, they are not just number dialers, they are fully capable multimedia players, a planner, a portable disk, a GPS device and capable of a plethora of other tasks which were once only the domain of a PC.
