A young father-of-one who came down with a common cold in November has since lost three limbs and skin from his face after it developed into a horrific flesh-eating bug.
Alex Lewis, 34, had to have both of his legs and his left arm amputated after his feet, fingertips, arms, lips, nose and part of his ears turned black.
His major organs shut down and the keen golfer, who has a three-year-old boy called Sam, spent a week in a coma as the deadly bacteria wreaked havoc through his body.
.

Alex Lewis, 34, initially thought he had a common cold but was rushed to hospital where he was diagnosed with a blood infection which developed into septicaemia and toxic shock syndrome. Doctors said he only had a three per cent chance of survival

US prosecutors are building potential cases that would accuse North Korea of directing the theft of $81million from Bangladesh Bank’s account at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York last year.
It would try and charge alleged Chinese middlemen, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.
The US Federal Bureau of Investigation believes that North Korea is responsible for the heist, an official briefed on the probe told Reuters.
Richard Ledgett, deputy director of the US National Security Agency, publicly suggested on Tuesday that North Korea may be linked to the incident, while private firms have long pointed the finger at the reclusive state.
The Journal, citing people familiar with the matter, reported that prosecutors believe Chinese middlemen helped North Korea orchestrate the theft from Bangladesh’s central bank, which was among the biggest bank robberies in modern times.

Cancer scientists have made an important breakthrough in understanding how the disease spreads, it was announced today.
Researchers at the University of Glasgow discovered how a particular cancer molecule speeded up the growth of the disease.
A report due to be published this week in Nature magazine describes how the molecule, called Myc, accelerates the growth of dividing cancer cells.
Cells have to grow to a certain size before they can split in two and they achieve this by producing protein.

This might not be the first place you’d expect to find a festive snowy scene, but incredible images show the Sahara desert looking particularly chilly.
It is just the second time in living memory that snow has fallen, with the last occasion being in February 1979.
The pictures were taken by amateur photographer Karim Bouchetata in the small Saharan desert town of Ain Sefra, Algeria, yesterday afternoon.

Dylann Roof has been found guilty of the Charleston church shooting and must now beg for his life or be sent to his death.
A jury took just two hours to convict the 22-year-old of 33 federal crimes after a week-long trial in which he was described as a suicidal loner who viewed the nine black parishioners he killed as ‘animals’.
Roof made no attempt to deny slaughtering his victims on June 17, 2015, at Emanuel AME Church, only entering a not-guilty plea to avoid being sent to his death.
He will now serve as his own lawyer and beg for his life as jurors weigh up whether to sentence him to life behind bars or execution despite a judge’s suggestion to have an attorney speak for him.
.

Roof was arrested on June 18 last year (pictured). He upheld his decision to represent himself at sentencing

Moments before a New York mom was murdered while vacationing in Turkey, a passing train’s camera allegedly caught a brief glimpse of her walking near grimy railroad tracks.
A woman in a pink dress — believed to be Sarai Sierra — is seen in the recently released footage recorded along a train line on Jan. 21, the day that the 33-year-old vanished in Istanbul, the Hurriyet Daily News reported.
Blurry footage also shows the homeless paper collector accused of murdering her grappling with Sierra, according to the Daily Mail.
