Conspiracy theorists have gotten the green light to chatter about another strange object on the Red Planet. This time it’s not a Mars rat or a jelly doughnut that’s been spotted in a photo taken by NASA’s Curiosity Mars rover, but a “traffic signal.”
The extraterrestrial “signal” was spotted by a British UFO enthusiast named Joseph White. Curiosity snapped the photo at 1:08 a.m. EDT on sol 753 (Sept. 19). You can see the original here.
“I have been following the images from NASA since the start and I flick through them on the NASA website every day,” White said, according to the Western Daily Press. “I saw this one and I thought ‘Hang on, that looks a bit strange.'”
While White said he believes what he spotted is “clearly intelligently designed,” as he wrote on his latest video on the Youtube Channel ArtAlienTV-Mars Zoo, the formation is most likely just a rock.

Way back in 1931, Albert Einstein famously mused that “Imagination is more important than knowledge.”
In saying this, as in so many other ways, Einstein was ahead of his time, since the value of the entity called “the fact” has eroded almost down to nothing in the 82 years since his utterance.
“Knowing stuff” used to be esteemed; smart people were revered and admired for being “learned.” Now, those who use their brains as a repository for facts are merely a quaint curiosity to be exploited on Jeopardy or around a Trivial Pursuit board.
Really, what does anybody truly need to know now? Anything that was, that happened or that is can be referenced in a millisecond or two via Google on your smartphone.
True value these days isn’t in just knowing. And with all due respect to Albert Einstein, even wild-eyed imagination ain’t the shining star it used to be.
These days, the holy grail of intelligence is a double-barreled entity called Curiosity.
Barry Diller, the sage Chairman of IAC and Expedia, may not be today’s answer to Einstein, but in last week’s Bloomberg BusinessWeek, the mega-successful thinker, builder and operator waxed wise in his response to the question: “Are there areas that you wish you knew more about?“

We already know that the spiders from Mars are real — but has the NASA rover Curiosity picked up real evidence of extraterrestrial life on the Red Planet?
Conspiracy theorists think so. Some of these photos — taken by the Curiosity over the past year and on other missions to Mars — look a lot like rocks. Some of them look a lot more peculiar, like the “iguana” found earlier this month. All of them are the stuff of Internet legend, and many believe that NASA is hiding something.

Another day, another “creature” on Mars.
Eagle-eyed UFO enthusiasts recently announced they’ve spotted yet another “animal” on the red planet. On Nov. 6, the UFO Sightings Daily blog declared that NASA’s Curiosity rover had taken what appears to be a photograph of a Martian iguana
“To say it’s just a rock would be very closed minded to the evidence at hand,” Scott C. Waring, the blog’s founder, noted of the curious image taken in January. “[N]ot only does it have a body, but look closely and you will see its lower neck skin, its mouth line, nostril hole and even an open eye with a large brow over it.”

Future Mars explorers may be able to get all the water they need out of the red dirt beneath their boots, a new study suggests.
NASA’s Mars rover Curiosity has found that surface soil on the Red Planet contains about 2 percent water by weight. That means astronaut pioneers could extract roughly 2 pints (1 liter) of water out of every cubic foot (0.03 cubic meters) of Martian dirt they dig up, said study lead author Laurie Leshin, of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y.
“For me, that was a big ‘wow’ moment,” Leshin told SPACE.com. “I was really happy when we saw that there’s easily accessible water here in the dirt beneath your feet. And it’s probably true anywhere you go on Mars.”

You likely already know the things you like to do, like watching a sporting event, as well as the things that you don’t like to do, such as sitting in traffic.
We all experience feelings when participating in such activities, and those feelings form the basis of a personal body of knowledge that we draw on to know whether we like doing a thing or not. Discounting philosophy, theology and other studies of the human condition, that’s life.
However, it’s all a bit unscientific. It’s also pedestrian for this day and age, and doesn’t play into another element of the human condition: mankind’s desire for self-awareness and curiosity.

The human body grows steadily from birth, and by the late teens the skeletal system has fully formed. Although you’re unlikely to grow any taller after the age of 20, scientists have recently discovered that some bones never stop growing as you age
.
In a 2011 study, researchers at the University of North Carolina found that the human pelvis continues to widen from the ages of 20 to 79. This means that even if you watch your weight and maintain the same level of body fat, your waist size naturally increases over time because of changes in the underlying bone structure. On average, the pelvis widens 1 inch (2.54 centimeters) between ages 20 and 79, resulting in a 3-inch (7.62 cm) average increase in waist size

New photos of Mars from NASA’s Curiosity rover have sparked a buzz of discussion over an odd formation that some have dubbed a “flower” embedded in a Martian rock. The rover has also found a snake-like rock formation winding across the Red Planet’s surface.
The so-called Mars “flower” photo was snapped on Dec. 19 by the microscope-like Mars Hand Lens Imager at the end of Curiosity’s robotic arm. At the lower left of the image is a strange, apparently transparent formation that some Internet forum users on the website claimed looked much like a flower, according to NBCNews.com’s photoblog.

NASA’s Mars rover Curiosity made a successful landing early Monday morning, marking the end of a nine-month, 354-million-mile journey. Black-and-white photographs offered both scientists and the eager public glimpses of the Red Planet. One particularly mysterious photo from Mars is garnering attention and—if the theory about it is verified, it would be a one-of-a-kind shot.
