For decades, Americans have been told flossing is essential for good dental hygiene, but a new report suggests there is little evidence to back that up.

HOW can America’s leaders foster broad prosperity? For most Republicans — including Donald J. Trump — the main answer is to “cut and extract”: Cut taxes and business regulations, including pesky restrictions on the extraction of natural resources, and the economy will boom.
Mr. Trump and House Speaker Paul Ryan are united by the conviction that cutting taxes — especially on corporations and the wealthy — is what drives growth.
A look at the states, however, suggests that they’re wrong. Red states dominated by Republicans embrace cut and extract. Blue states dominated by Democrats do much more to maintain their investments in education, infrastructure, urban quality of life and human services — investments typically financed through more progressive state and local taxes. And despite what you may have heard, blue states are generally doing better.
We identify blue states as the 18 that supported the Democratic candidate in the last four presidential elections, and red states as the 22 that backed the Republican candidate (alternative definitions yield similar results). If you compare averages, blue states are substantially richer (even adjusting for cost of living) and their residents are better educated. Companies there do more research and development and produce more patents. Students score better on tests of basic science-oriented skills like math.

People are asking all kinds of questions about me and Vladimir Putin. Questions like: “How well do you guys know each other?”… “How serious is this bromance?”… and, “Are you actually saying you wouldn’t defend our allies in the Baltic States if Putin sends the tanks in?”
Well, let me just say this: Putin is a leader. And I think we’ve all seen that topless picture of him riding a horse. I’ll stop there.
I know some people were upset this week when I suggested that the Russians should launch a malicious cyberattack on Hillary Clinton in an effort to help me become President. But I was just being sarcastic! I’m definitely not on Putin’s payroll. OK, maybe the Russians did get my attention when Russian oligarch Dmitry Rybolovlev bought a Palm Beach estate from me in 2008. Some haters are asking if this was some kind of secret payoff from Moscow. But really I just made a terrific deal. I paid $41 million for the property at the height of the market and flipped it for $100 million in the midst of the biggest real estate collapse in Florida history. I’m such a great dealmaker! I definitely don’t owe Russia anything in return for that much-needed cash infusion in the middle of the crash! And I most certainly did not strike a secret deal with Putin when I was in Moscow for the Miss Universe contest in 2013.

A 42-year-old skydiver with more than 18,000 jumps made history Saturday when he became the first person to leap without a parachute and land in a net instead.
After a two-minute freefall, Luke Aikins landed dead center in the 100-by-100-foot net at the Big Sky movie ranch on the outskirts of Simi Valley.
As cheers erupted, Aikins quickly climbed out, walked over, and hugged his wife, Monica, who had been watching from the ground with their 4-year-old son, Logan, and other family members.
“I’m almost levitating, it’s incredible,” the jubilant skydiver said, raising his hands over his head as his wife held their son, who dozed in her arms.

Florida authorities have found a body believed to be that of a 2-year-old boy who was dragged off by an alligator Tuesday night at Disney resort.
The Nebraska toddler was playing in the water on a beach area near Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa at around 9:16 p.m. Tuesday when the alligator snatched him and pulled him underwater in front of his horrified parents, authorities said. The father tried to get his son back, but wasn’t able to, Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said.
Demings said the boy’s body was spotted at about 1:45 p.m. ET Wednesday, and fully recovered at about 3:30 p.m. Demings, accompanied by a Catholic priest, told the parents their child was found and the body was intact.
“It was a tough message to deliver to them, to let them know that at this point, their child is dead,” Demings said. “Of course, the family was distraught but also I believe somewhat relieved that we were able to find their son … so they can come to grips with what has happened,” Demings said.

After the slaughter of nine worshipers at a South Carolina church last June, but before the massacre of eight students and a teacher at an Oregon community college in October, there was a shooting that the police here have labeled Incident 159022597.01. It happened on a clear Friday night at an Elks Lodge, on a modest block of clapboard houses northeast of this city’s hilly downtown. Unlike the butchery that bookended it, it merited no presidential statements, no saturation television coverage.
But what took place at 6101 Prentice Street on Aug. 21 may say more about the nature of gun violence in the United States than any of those far more famous rampages. It is a snapshot of a different sort of mass violence — one that erupts with such anesthetic regularity that it is rendered almost invisible, except to the mostly black victims, survivors and attackers.
According to the police account, more than 30 people had gathered in the paneled basement bar of the lodge to mark the 39th birthday of a man named Greg Wallace when a former neighbor, Timothy Murphy, showed up, drunk. Fists flew. Mr. Murphy ducked out the door, burst back in with a handgun, and opened fire.

George Zimmerman is selling the gun he used to kill Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager, during a 2012 confrontation in Sanford, Florida.
“I’m a free American,” he told Fox 35 in Orlando. “I can do what I like with my possessions.”
Zimmerman wrote in the auction description of the Kel-Tec PF-9 9mm handgun that he plans to use some of the money to “fight BLM violence against Law Enforcement officers, ensure the demise of Angela Correy’s [sic] persecution career and Hillary Clinton’s anti-firearm rhetoric.”
Angela Corey is the Republican state attorney who charged Zimmerman with second-degree murder in the Martin shooting.

A 2013 fertilizer plant blast in Texas that killed 15 people and wiped out hundreds of homes was caused by a “criminal act,” federal officials said Wednesday.
The findings were revealed in a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigation into the origin of the deadly fire and explosion at the West Fertilizer Co. on April 17, 2013, in the rural town of West.
The explosion flattened the farming community of 2,800 people, just north of Waco, turning some 500 homes into rubble as residents tried desperately to flee the horrific scene. Over 200 people were injured.
The force felt was equivalent to that of a magnitude-2.1 earthquake, and a 93-foot-wide crater scarred the site of the fertilizer plant, where dangerous chemicals, including ammonium nitrate, were stored.

Millennials love ordering food — at least according to this 2014 study. In the study, which stacked results from millennials alongside their baby boomer predecessors, millennials ranked “ease” and “convenience” as the main reasons behind their incessant Seamless orders.
However, if you’re looking for ease and convenience, you really can’t go wrong with a crockpot slow cooker. Prep all your ingredients, dump them into your crockpot, set the timer, and return a few hours later to a dinner ready for consumption. Here are five effortless recipes you can make in your crockpot. (Pro-tip: You can even eat right out of if you’re feeling particularly lazy about dishes – no judgment.)

A pig heart has been beating away in the body of a confused baboon for 945 days — and it could be the key to saving human lives with animal parts.
Xenotransplantation, the process of transferring an organ from one species to another, is nothing new. But a study published Tuesday in Nature Communications showed that thanks to a regime of immunosuppressive therapy drugs, five genetically modified pig hearts put into different baboons stayed alive — beating and growing, but not replacing the functioning baboon’s heart.
One of them lasted 945 days — almost twice as long as the previous record. Before this report, the longest a heart survived was just 500 days.
“This has the potential to really move the field forward,” Dr. Richard Pierson, a professor of surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and one of the study’s co-authors, said in a statement. “This new approach clearly made a difference. We obviously have a lot more work to do, but I’m confident that eventually, this will be useful to human patients.”
It’s exciting but potentially dangerous: Experts say xenotransplantation could be used to support human life. In current experiments, a pig heart just hangs out in a baboon’s belly. But making that pig heart shoulder all the baboon’s cardiovascular functioning is a hell of a lot more demanding. Plus, the baboons are on drugs that make them horrible at fighting disease. So while their immune systems don’t fight the invading organ, they also stink at fighting sickness, meaning the baboons could be at risk of illness.

Să facem glume, nu război
In the world, human beings are facing various problems. People who are full of greed, anger, and ignorance are seen to be fighting with each other in words and deeds. As the fighting continues, various problems such as civil wars, wars of aggression, and wars of aggression are occurring. As world peace is being destroyed, humans are facing unbearable problems. Innocent children and women are not getting the rights they deserve and deserve. I can't think of one thing every time. What is it? The United Nations. If we look at the responsibilities and duties of the United Nations, I think it is not suitable for solving the problems that are happening in the world today. In fact, the United Nations and the World Security Council, such an organization must rule the world, must be able to give orders, and must have various ways to obey orders. There must be no organization that can influence more than that organization. There should be experts from each country. They can even dominate the superpowers like the US, China, and Britain. Only then will global peace be achieved quickly. Now, if a country with power develops more militarily, economically, or socially than its own country, then powerful countries will jealously seek out enemies and wage war. Or they will attack with fighter jets. In this, innocent people are losing their lives. No one understands the value of a life. You should think about how to achieve global peace by controlling these. If the US continues to be the permanent president of the UN, world peace will never be achieved. If you think carefully, no one sees that they are working for the common good, but for their own benefit, for the benefit of their own country. The permanent president of the UN and the Security Council has rejected this, As a young Rohingya, I have come to realize that only by electing the president and secretary from among the countries in the world through a secret ballot system and governing the world fairly can we achieve global peace. The United Nations and the Security Council are organizations in which any country must govern, give orders, and make them obey their orders. For example, only when a defendant is tried in court can we hold the leaders of the countries in check and control them, can we achieve global peace smoothly. Otherwise, it will not be easy for powerful countries to use various excuses to end this war every year, every year, for the benefit of themselves and their countries. No country's leaders pay any attention to the words of the United Nations and the Security Council. If we look at it in practice, look at the Rohingya issue. Myanmar is a small country. Even that country has been under siege for 8 years. What action can be taken? Why is the UN and the Security Council Powerless? Without such Power, how can the organization bring about global peace? Everyone should think about it. Whether there is a veto or a strong one, all countries in the world can only achieve global peace if they are subject to the UN and the Security Council. Seek peace in the quiet embrace of nature. Peace is an indispensable need of the human race. It is not as if one person can kill another person, and it is as if one country can attack another country, but instead of trying to build peace, we must try to destroy the peace now, and the world is getting hotter and is on the verge of collapse. I especially appeal to all the world experts to urgently try to bring about peace in all parts of the world. Mr, Noor Muhamed Arkhan Rohingya Youth Myanmar
