The world just recorded its warmest June ever. A deadly heat wave has been baking much of Europe ― France experiencing its highest temperature on record last week, a blistering 45.9 degrees Celsius (or nearly 115 degrees Fahrenheit). Now, Alaska is enduring what for it is an ongoing heat wave.
In short, it’s hot. And scientists warn this is just a taste of what the climate crisis has in store for the Earth.
World Weather Attribution, an international organization of scientists conducting climate research, said the frequency and intensity of Europe’s heat waves have been exacerbated largely by humans.

Marshae Jones, a 28-year-old Alabama woman, is facing a manslaughter charge after her fetus died in utero. Her crime? Allegedly provoking a fight with a person who ultimately shot her in the stomach, killing her five-month-old fetus.
Lawyers for Jones filed a motion for the charges to be dropped on Monday, stating that there is no legal or factual basis to permit a criminal prosecution. A hearing is scheduled for July 9.
The unusual case highlights a growing movement to prosecute women for alleged crimes against their own fetuses. Jones’ case, in particular, raises questions about the legal ramifications of the concept of “fetal personhood,” which holds that a fertilized egg, embryo or fetus is a separate person with a separate set of rights who deserves full legal protection under the U.S. Constitution.

Kevin Durant is heading to New York City.
The NBA player announced on Instagram Sunday night he would sign a contract with the Brooklyn Nets..The announcement was shared on the Instagram account for The Boardroom, Durant’s new series for ESPN’s streaming service, ESPN+..ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski first reported the four-year, $164 million deal..Durant has made the All-NBA first team six times and joined the Golden State Warriors in free agency in 2016. The team nabbed two straight NBA championships and made it to the finals this year before losing to the Toronto Raptors.

Los Angeles Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs died Monday afternoon in Texas at the team hotel, hours before the team was scheduled to begin a four-game series against the Rangers.
The Southlake (Texas) Police Department said police were called to the team hotel this afternoon and found Skaggs “unresponsive” in his room. The department said no foul play is suspected and the investigation is ongoing.
A 911 call at 2:18 p.m. CT summoned Tarrant County emergency personnel to the Angels’ team hotel in Southlake. Just more than a minute later, an emergency dispatch termed it a “possible death investigation” and Southlake police were summoned.
Monday’s game was postponed as both teams were stunned by the news.

As more reports surfaced of inhumane conditions at the government’s migrant detention facilities, the movement to label them “concentration camps” picked up steam with backing from a major newspaper.
Dolly Lucio Sevier, a physician, and a group of lawyers visited border facilities in two Texas cities: McAllen and Clint. In an assessment obtained by ABC News, Lucio Sevier wrote that “the conditions within which they are held could be compared to torture facilities.” Lucio Sevier was granted access after lawyers expressed concern about a flu outbreak in the McAllen facility.
Lucio Sevier described the conditions as “extreme cold temperatures, lights on 24 hours a day, no adequate access to medical care, basic sanitation, water, or adequate food” and added that teens there said they had no access to hand-washing. Mothers of infants said the camps lacked facilities for washing bottles. Lucio Sevier said the conditions were “tantamount to intentionally causing the spread of disease.”
