Tuesday night’s rule means Warren will be barred from speaking on the floor until Sessions’ debate ends, McConnell’s office confirmed. The debate is expected to conclude Wednesday night.
“She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted,” McConnell said on the Senate floor.
.
The emotional exchange occurred during debate on the nomination of Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Alabama, to be attorney general. Warren was reading from a 1986 letter Coretta Scott King, the widow of Martin Luther King Jr., had written to Sen. Strom Thurmond critical of Sessions who was then a nominee to be a federal judge.

The 51-50 vote ends Trump’s toughest confirmation battle yet. Senate Democrats debated through the night and into Tuesday morning in a last-ditch attempt to derail DeVos, buoyed by support from Republican Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine.
.
DeVos was sworn into office shortly after 6 p.m. ET. Pence administered the oath of office and said his confirmation vote earlier in the day was “the easiest vote I ever cast.”
.
Throughout the fight, Democrats argued they needed “Just one more!” to lure away another Republican vote. But Senate Republican leaders succeeded in delivering a victory to Trump in a confirmation fight that very few expected to become as tough as it did.

Princess Elizabeth was never meant to become queen, let alone the longest-serving monarch in the storied history of British royalty.
Her father, in fact, was never meant to become king.
But on Monday, after nearly a lifetime of service to country and crown, Elizabeth II will commemorate her 65th anniversary as queen. She will become the only British monarch ever to celebrate her Sapphire Jubilee.
It is a role that most Britons — whether royalist or republican — would agree that she has fulfilled with caution, dignity and an unending sense of duty.

Members of the House of Commons voted by 498 to 114 to advance the bill that would give Prime Minister Theresa May the authority to invoke Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty — the formal process of leaving the EU.
.
The size of majority in favor of triggering Article 50 on Wednesday means the bill is almost certain to become law. But a battle is expected next week when the bill returns to the House of Commons for detailed scrutiny in the committee stage. Opposition parties will then try to push through a series of amendments.
.
The House of Lords, the UK’s upper house, will also need to approve the Article 50 legislation before it can become law.

British Prime Minister Theresa May has promised to publish a full Brexit plan on Thursday.

A growing number of congressional Republicans are objecting to the cost and viability of a proposal that was a rallying cry for the billionaire businessman during his insurgent campaign. Interviews with more than a dozen GOP lawmakers across the ideological spectrum suggest Trump could have a difficult time getting funding for his plan approved by Congress.
.
Many bluntly told CNN they’d likely vote against any Trump plan that is not fully offset with spending cuts, while others questioned whether Trump’s vision would adequately resolve the problems at the border.
“If you’re going to spend that kind of money, you’re going to have to show me where you’re going to get that money,” said Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski, a key swing vote who has already broken with Trump over his nominee for secretary of education.

Although many commercials during Super Bowl LI had a political bent, only one featured a full-blown Donald Trump parody making Russia jokes.
“Washington is so cold, I thought Russia was cold,” are the first lines to come out of the Donald Trump impersonator’s pursed mouth in Cyprus Air’s commercial advertising gas fireplaces.
From there, the impersonator makes various jokes about the sale being “huuuge” and the customers being winners.
The commercial ran in the Washington D.C. market. President Trump was not in D.C. Sunday, instead opting for his Mar-a-Lago home.

A “drunk and racist” man was thrown off a train in the United Kingdom after ranting about a woman and her 4-year-old son in a scene caught on video.
Alexander MacKinnon pleaded guilty last week to a racially aggravated public order offense over the incident, which took place in December on a train from London to Glasgow, the Independent reported.
Sanaa Shahid was traveling with her 4-year-old son, Zayn, when she said MacKinnon asked how they got into first class.
“You don’t deserve to be in first class,” he said, Shahid told the Daily Record. “You should be in common class. In fact, you shouldn’t be in this country at all.”
Shahid, an attorney, told the newspaper she has lived in Scotland all her life.
She said 10 to 12 people witnessed the incident but did not speak up as MacKinnon, also an attorney, accosted her and insulted her son.

Ten former senior U.S. diplomats and security officials planned to file an affidavit in a federal appeals court arguing that President Donald Trump’s executive order curtailing immigration would actually make America less safe.
In a brief scheduled to be filed at 3 a.m. ET on Monday the officials slammed Trump’s order as “ill-conceived, poorly implemented and ill-explained.”
The brief obtained by NBC News was written jointly by two former Secretaries of State, two former heads of the CIA, a former Secretary of Defense, a former Secretary of Homeland Security, and senior officials of the National Security Council.

When she was younger, Olympic gold-medal swimmer Simone Manuel found inspiration in Venus and Serena Williams. The beaded, braided tennis phenoms were Black and excellent, inspiring children the world over with their total domination of a sport usually seen as reserved for white people.
Fast forward to now. Kids the world over are still finding inspiration in the Williams sisters. And Manuel.
Said the Olympian: “I think it’s pretty cool that someone else can see me and realize, ‘hey, this is something I can try, this is something I can be good at,’ just to not set limitations on some of the goals they may have.”
At the 2016 Summer Olympics, Manuel made history as the first African-American woman to win an individual Olympic gold medal in swimming. In a tie with Penny Oleksiak of Canada, Manuel won that gold and set an Olympic record in the 100-meter freestyle, and she imprinted upon pop culture an indelible image of shock and pure joy as she looked over at the scoreboard.
