Schmap already helped advertisers and other companies understand their Twitter followers through its Know Your Followers product, but today it launched a new, upgraded service called Demographics Pro — CEO Paul Hallett described the concept as “Nielsen for Twitter.”
Nielsen does its own social media analysis, and it announced a partnership with Twitter last fall, but that was focused on measuring the social media impact of TV shows. Demographics Pro is much broader than that, giving customers a detailed demographic breakdown of the people following a given account or commenting on a given hashtag.

Those who eagerly await the latest tweets from Lady Gaga, Kanye West and Justin Bieber may soon have one more reason to tie their musical interests to Twitter: The social network will reportedly use a recent acquisition to set up a Twitter Music app.
Technology from the music discovery company We Are Hunted, which Twitter bought last year, will reportedly serve as the app’s foundation. Soundcloud will provide music streaming services with videos courtesy of Vevo, according to published reports.
The Twitter Music app for iOS devices may debut later this month.

Animated GIFs kind of come and go in popularity, but seem to be having a bit of a resurgence lately. GifMill is a free app for your iPhone or iPod touch that lets you take photos and create animated GIF images you can share with friends via Tumblr, Twitter, email or text message.
You can also use photos from your camera roll or even use short videos. Up to 100 stills can be used to create the GIF. Once the frames are selected you can control the frame rate and quality, and rearrange or delete frames from your sequence.

American Express (Amex) has launched a purchase-by-tweet service for its US-based customers.
Credit-card holders post a specific hashtag on Twitter to trigger payments from their accounts.
Products from Amazon, Sony and Microsoft are being offered at a discount to entice shoppers to use the new service.
However, one retail expert dismissed the initiative as a “gimmick” that was unlikely to catch on.
This is not Amex’s first tie-up with social media.

As promised, here’s the first-ever official Connectome Q&A! We’ve been getting lots of incoming questions on our Facebook and Twitter pages – some of them on the technical side; others of the more “general interest” variety. Most of these questions require pretty involved answers – and it’s important to me that each of them gets the full treatment it deserves.
So for today’s Q&A, I’ve decided to focus on just one question. That doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten the others, though – we keep everything archived, and we’ll be doing plenty more Q&As in the future. So keep sending those neuroscience queries and article requests our way.
