If Box CEO Aaron Levie made one thing clear during the company’s second annual developer conference Wednesday it’s that startup developers should be paying very close attention to the cloud-based company.
To sweeten the pitch, the company not only unveiled a suite of new developer tools — including a “Developer Edition” of the platform — but announced new partnerships with two venture capital firms, who have pledged $40 million in funding to startups with Box-enabled services.
While startups may seem like an unlikely match for the company, which is still trying to prove it can meet investors’ expectations, Box is hoping that powering a new generation of business software startups will strengthen the relationships it already has with its Fortune 500 and other larger business customers.

Creating a company from the ground up while generating a successful revenue steam is the essence of the American Dream; but if this were an easy task, there would be a flood of employees quitting their “nine-to-fives” to found startups.
The autonomy that comes along with building a business around personal goals, talents and interests is compelling for many workers who are fed up with their daily grind. On the other hand, leaving a stable employment situation can be stressful — and it’s a decision that shouldn’t be taken lightly, even if you’re not entirely satisfied with one or more of the aspects of your current job.
As an experienced entrepreneur, I’ve learned a few pointers along the way that may help others looking to take the leap. Below are a few considerations to take into account when making the decision to start your own company.

It’s good business to invest in women.
Women lead less than 7 percent of venture-backed startups, yet there are more women in senior positions at successful startups than at unsuccessful ones, according to a Dow Jones study cited by Bloomberg. If you combine this with a 2011 study showing that tech companies started by female entrepreneurs have higher returns per capita on average, it seems like startups founded by females are the way to go.
With this in mind, we give you our gallery of five female startup founders to watch. They’re making fortunes on phone games, delving into the world of big data, and revolutionizing the way we watch online video.

How do you raise two sons who will make enough money by age 30 to ensure you have a very comfortable retirement? Tell them their youth is no barrier to achieving. Take them on vacations to developing countries where their imaginations can run wild with ideas for solving the planet’s greatest problems. And teach them to rebel in the right ways.
