The new Senate Republican health care bill is out. It’s basically the same as the old one.
New legislative language unveiled by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) Thursday does include some notable changes, including leaving in place Affordable Care Act taxes on wealthy individuals and giving in to conservative demands that health insurance be further deregulated, according to a summary.
At its core, however, the revised version of the Better Care Reconciliation Act ― which McConnell pulled two weeks ago because too few Republican senators planned to vote for it ― remains a vehicle for massive cuts to Medicaid, less financial assistance for people who buy private health insurance, and the return of skimpy junk insurance policies and discrimination against people with pre-existing conditions. Taxes on the rich would remain, but health care companies would enjoy a major tax cut.
Investigators trying to determine what happened to Amelia Earhart more than 80 years ago now believe a newly discovered photograph shows she survived her final flight and was captured by the Japanese.
“When you see the analysis that’s been done, I think it leaves no doubt to the viewers,” Shawn Henry, former executive assistant director for the FBI told NBC News.
The photo, which was found in a former “top secret” file at the National Archives, is believed to have been taken in 1937, the same year the legendary pilot vanished during an attempted round-the-world flight.

Even as controversy continues over President Donald Trump’s tweet of a video showing him beating up a personified version of CNN, a poll released Tuesday shows the cable news outlet edging him in trust among most Americans.
The survey also showed the New York Times, Washington Post and the broadcast television networks faring better than Trump in trustworthiness. But the poll, conducted by Survey Monkey and published by Axios, also illustrates the stark political divide in the U.S.
The poll, conducted between last Thursday and Monday, showed that 50 percent of American adults trust CNN more than Trump, with 43 percent favoring the president. Trump posted his disparaging CNN tweet on Sunday.

CNN Has The ‘Trust’ Advantage Over President Trump
A Pennsylvania man has been charged with the murder of a recent high school graduate during a road rage dispute last week.
David Desper, 28, turned himself in to authorities early Sunday, Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan said at a press conference that morning. He was charged with first- and third-degree murder, possession of an instrument of crime and reckless endangering in the slaying of 18-year-old Bianca Roberson in West Goshen Township last Wednesday.
“This is a story of a savage and senseless murder,” Hogan said Sunday. “Bianca Roberson, 18 years old, gunned down because somebody didn’t want to give way, somebody didn’t want her to merge into a lane of traffic.”
New York Yankees outfielder Dustin Fowler was called up from the minors on Thursday only to be carted off the field with a horrific knee injury during the first inning of his debut game in major league baseball.
Fowler underwent emergency surgery for an open rupture of the patellar tendon in his right knee. The 22-year-old, who was called up to play right field, crashed into the short-wall as he tried to catch a foul ball. When he attempted to walk it off, his leg buckled, sending him to the ground.
Fowler remained composed as team personnel carted him off the field. He was taken to Rush University Medical Center in Chicago for surgery.
Yankees manager Joe Girardi looked visibly shaken following the incident. Fowler was just one out away from his first MLB at-bat.

To a surprising, and almost humiliating extent, some of the gravest problems we face during a day can be traced back to a brutally simple fact: that we have not had enough sleep the night before.
The idea sounds profoundly offensive. There are surely greater issues than tiredness. We are likely to be up against genuine hurdles: the economic situation, politics, problems at work, tensions in our relationship, the family…
These are true difficulties. But what we often fail to appreciate is the extent to which our ability to confront them with courage and resilience is dependent on a range of distinctly ‘small’ or ‘low’ factors: what our blood sugar level is like, when we last had a proper hug from someone, how much water we’ve drunk – and how many hours we’ve rested.
On Thursday, Senate Republicans released their discussion draft health care bill after weeks of secret meetings.
The bill, which was marketed as different from the health care legislation passed by the House in May, looks remarkably similar to its predecessor. It’s also complex and hard to understand.
For the less than fluent in health care policy, we’ve compiled a hand guide: everything you need know in one place. The big takeaways: The new bill will negatively affect key demographics, like Americans with substance use disorders, women, seniors and people with mental illness. It includes tax breaks for the rich and for businesses, eliminates the mandate requiring large employers to offer employees coverage, slashes the Medicaid budget, allows states to waive essential health benefits and defunds Planned Parenthood for one year.

A Virginia man was charged with murdering a Muslim teenager he allegedly confronted near a mosque in Sterling.
Fairfax County Police identified the suspect as Darwin A. Martinez Torres, a 22-year-old Sterling resident.
Police believe the incident was prompted by road rage. They are not currently investigating the death as a hate crime.
The victim, identified by relatives to The Washington Post as Nabra Hassanen, 17, was walking with her friends near the All Dulles Area Muslim Society Center about 4 a.m. on Sunday after Ramadan prayers when the group allegedly got into some kind of dispute with Martinez Torres, who reportedly drove past in a car.

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) was cut off by two of her male colleagues while questioning Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Tuesday, just one week after they interrupted her during a different hearing.
During Sessions’ testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee, Harris asked him to explain what Justice Department policy prevented him from answering some questions from the committee’s members, and whether he had discussed that policy with his staff prior to the hearing.
But as Harris, a former prosecutor, pressed the attorney general to answer her questions, she was interrupted by the committee’s chairman, Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.), and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).
Multiple people were killed after flames devoured a high-rise apartment building in west London early Wednesday morning, authorities said.
Grenfell Tower, which is 24 stories tall, was quickly consumed even as firefighters tried to battle the flames. London fire commissioner Dany Cotton confirmed that there were multiple fatalities. London Ambulance Service said that at least 50 people were taken to area hospitals.
“This is an unprecedented incident,” she said. “In my 29 years of being a firefighter I have never ever seen anything of this scale.”
Cotton said the cause of the fire is not yet known.
