United Airlines just reached a settlement with Dr. David Dao, the passenger who was violently dragged off a flight earlier this month in an incident that created a firestorm for the company.
Dao’s lawyers announced the deal Thursday, but did not disclose the financial terms of the settlement.
The announcement includes praise for United (UAL) CEO Oscar Munoz from Thomas Demetrio, one of Dao’s lawyers.“Mr. Munoz said he was going to do the right thing, and he has,” he said. “In addition, United has taken full responsibility for what happened…without attempting to blame others, including the City of Chicago.”

President Donald Trump has made little progress on some of his key campaign promises in his first 100 days as president.
Of the 10 core goals for his presidency tracked by NBC News, Trump made progress on two, faltered on four, and did little or nothing on the rest.
Trump’s tangible progress is mostly confined to headline-grabbing executive orders that tackle parts of his promises from the campaign by undertaking regulatory or administrative reviews, or green lighting permits.
“I don’t think there’s any question that the president has done a significant amount on the issues that he put forward in the campaign,” White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer told reporters ahead of the 100-day mark, touting “a record number” of executive orders. “We are very proud.”

Ivanka Trump defended her father at a women’s panel in Berlin Tuesday after attendees hissed and booed when she attempted to champion her father’s commitment to women’s issues.
The event opened with the first daughter explaining her role in the White House..“You are first daughter — German audience not familiar — what is your role — to whom are you represented? Your father, the American people, or your business,” asked Miriam Meckel, editor of German business magazine Wirtschaftswoche.“Well, certainly not the latter, and I am rather unfamiliar with this role as well, as it is quite new to me,” replied Trump, a top adviser to her father. “It has been a little under 100 days, but it is just been a remarkable, an incredible journey.”

Filmmaker Jonathan Demme, whose Oscar-winning thriller “The Silence of the Lambs” terrified audiences and introduced one of the most indelible villains in movie history, died Wednesday morning in New York. He was 73.
He died of complications from esophageal cancer, according to a statement from his publicist..Demme won consistent acclaim as the director of such diverse movies as the Talking Heads concert film “Stop Making Sense”; “Philadelphia,” the 1993 drama starring Tom Hanks as a lawyer battling AIDS; and “Beloved,” the 1998 Oprah Winfrey movie based on Toni Morrison’s bestseller about a 19th century slave haunted by the ghost of her daughter..But it’s “Silence of the Lambs” for which he was best known. The 1991 movie, based on Thomas Harris’ novel, swept the Academy Awards the following year, winning Oscars for best picture and its two stars, Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins, whose Hannibal Lecter character became a cultural icon. Demme also won the Oscar for best director.

Las Vegas represents possibility, optimism and temptation. It’s a city with lights running through its veins and creativity pumping in its heart. That said, it’s really no surprise that Vegas also happens to be a city that is fully embracing technology.
Below, we explore what some of today’s most exciting technologies may mean for the next ten years of this larger-than-life slice of America.
Vegas VR
A high-tech mindset isn’t new for Vegas: The city has long played host to the annual CES event, a launch pad for some of the world’s most innovative and disruptive technologies. And virtual reality, one of the hottest buzzwords in the tech industry, has been hogging the spotlight of CES’ stages for the past several years.
The Vegas VR app and 360 video tours on GeoVegas are proof positive that Vegas and VR are a match made in virtual heaven, but there are many more immersive possibilities for the future. Think: fully virtual casinos where you can choose your own adventure, scenery and companions; entire concerts experienced front-row from the comfort of your hotel suite; and virtual reality restaurants that enable you to dine wherever in the world you desire.

Future Las Vegas?

The U.S. just lost a trade battle with Mexico

The U.S. just lost a trade battle with Mexico. It’s the first loss of the Trump era.
Mexico and the U.S. have fought for years over tuna. The U.S. insists that any Mexican tuna sold in the U.S. must be “dolphin safe,” meaning dolphins weren’t killed by tuna fisherman, which was once common. Mexico says its fisherman play by the rules. The U.S. government disagrees.
On Tuesday, the World Trade Organization ruled in Mexico’s favor, allowing it to impose trade sanctions worth $163 million a year against the U.S. The WTO says that’s how much money Mexico has lost from the U.S. unfairly penalizing Mexican tuna.U.S. officials criticized the ruling.
“We are disappointed in the WTO Arbitrator’s decision regarding U.S. dolphin-safe labeling standards,” a spokesperson for the U.S. Trade Representative, a wing of the executive branch, said in a statement.
The Trump administration argues that the WTO ruling didn’t take into account updated US laws on “dolphin safe” tuna, and that it overstated the actual financial loss to Mexican tuna producers, who the USTR accused of intentionally chasing and netting dolphins.

President Donald Trump told the leaders of Canada and Mexico Wednesday he was not immediately planning to end the North American Free Trade Agreement, a pact which he railed against as a candidate and as recently as last week declared was harmful to US workers.
In a description of Trump’s phone calls to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and President Enrique Peña Nieto, the White House said Trump “agreed not to terminate NAFTA at this time and the leaders agreed to proceed swiftly, according to their required internal procedures, to enable the renegotiation of the NAFTA deal to the benefit of all three countries.”“It is my privilege to bring NAFTA up to date through renegotiation,” Trump said in a written statement that accompanied the readout of his phone calls. “It is an honor to deal with both President Peña Nieto and Prime Minister Trudeau, and I believe that the end result will make all three countries stronger and better.”The White House said the phone conversations were “pleasant and productive.”

This skyscraper is out of this world — literally

Feeling too fancy for normal earth-bound existence? A new skyscraper concept would elevate your living situation — literally.
Clouds Architecture Office has unveiled plans for a futuristic skyscraper dubbed the “Analemma Tower.” The building would hover majestically above the ground because it would be attached — wait for it — to an actual asteroid, in space, that is forcibly put into orbit around the Earth..If that’s not enough to digest, consider that your exact address in this pendulous pad could be anywhere on Earth. The tower will be suspended via high-strength cabling from an asteroid and placed in “eccentric geosynchronous orbit”. In other words, it would be always moving — residents and visitors would take a daily journey between the northern and southern hemispheres with a prolonged visit over a main “home” point like New York City or Dubai (it’s always New York City or Dubai, isn’t it?)
