McDonald’s workers struggling to get by on poverty wages should apply for food stamps and Medicaid.
That’s the advice one activist McDonald’s worker received when she called the company’s “McResource Line,” a service provided to McDonald’s workers who need help with issues like child and health care.
“You can ask about things like food pantries. Are you on SNAP? SNAP is Supplemental Nutritional Assistance [Program] — food stamps … You would most likely be eligible for SNAP benefits,” a McResource representative told 27-year-old Nancy Salgado, who works at a Chicago McDonald’s. “Did you try and get on Medicaid? Medicaid is a federal program. It’s health coverage for low income or no income adults — and children.”

Age: 26
Height: 5’6″

How I Gained It: It started my first year of college. I was overwhelmed with change. I found comfort in bad eating habits during my rigorous studying. I would eat fast food at least four times a week, never incorporating vegetables or protein. I would eat two or three meals’ worth of food in one session. It was an excessive amount of food I was taking in.
After three years of my unhealthy habits, I had gained a total of 100 pounds. I didn’t realize what I was doing to myself. I would buy stretchy clothes or loose t-shirts. Every three months I would buy larger sizes.

Jared Fogle lost more than 200 pounds eating Subway sandwiches 15 years ago. Sharing his story paid off. Today, the spokesman has an estimated net worth of $15 million, according to New York’s Daily News.
Fogle weighed in at 425 pounds when he bit into his first Subway sandwich as a student at Indiana University.
He said that his weight and appearance fueled habits that contributed to his obesity and that he shied away from dates and parties that other college students enjoyed.
The business major envisioned himself working at an ad agency or public relations firm but never realized his personal weight-loss journey would double as his career. Since he started losing weight, Subway has been his only employer.

NEW YORK — McDonald’s restaurants in the U.S. will soon get a new menu addition: The number of calories in the chain’s burgers and fries.
The world’s biggest hamburger chain said Wednesday that it will post calorie information on restaurant and drive-thru menus nationwide starting Monday. The move comes ahead of a regulation that could require major chains to post the information as early as next year.
