Dr. Lanza featured in “TOP 50 Global Stem Cell Influencers” along with James Thomson and Nobel Laureate Shinya Yamanaka.
Advanced Cell Technology, Inc. (“ACT”; OTCBB: ACTC), a leader in the field of regenerative medicine, announced today that chief scientific officer Robert Lanza, M.D., is featured on the “TOP 50 Global Stem Cell Influencers” list from Terrapinn’s life sciences division, TotalBiopharma (“World Stem Cells & Regenerative Medicine Congress 2013”). The list features the most influential people in the global stem cell and cell therapy field, including world renowned academics, industry players, and governmental officials.
Dr. Lanza was among the top four on the list, alongside the University of Wisconsin’s Dr. James Thomson, known as the first scientist to derive human embryonic stem cells (in 1998) and for his work with induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells; and Kyoto University’s Dr. Shinya Yamanaka, co-winner of the 2012 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for his work with iPS cells, and a winner of the inaugural $3 million Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences earlier this year.

On April 2, 1513, Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León and his crew became the first recorded Europeans to set eyes on Florida. Legend holds that they made this discovery while searching for the Fountain of Youth, a magical water source supposedly capable of reversing the aging process and curing sickness. A closer look, however, reveals that the fountain likely provided little to no motivation for their voyage. In fact, no surviving documents from the time, including letters from Ponce de León himself, ever mention such a fountain. Only later did Spanish and U.S. writers connect the two, thereby turning Ponce de León into a poster boy for gullibility.

The human body grows steadily from birth, and by the late teens the skeletal system has fully formed. Although you’re unlikely to grow any taller after the age of 20, scientists have recently discovered that some bones never stop growing as you age
.
In a 2011 study, researchers at the University of North Carolina found that the human pelvis continues to widen from the ages of 20 to 79. This means that even if you watch your weight and maintain the same level of body fat, your waist size naturally increases over time because of changes in the underlying bone structure. On average, the pelvis widens 1 inch (2.54 centimeters) between ages 20 and 79, resulting in a 3-inch (7.62 cm) average increase in waist size

Hints of dark matter, the mysterious stuff that makes up perhaps 85 percent of the matter in the universe, may have been observed by scientists.
But researchers are far from saying they’ve discovered the source of dark matter.
“We’re not claiming anything,” warned Blas Cabrera, a Stanford University physicist speaking here today (April 15) at a meeting of the American Physical Society. [Explaining Dark Matter (Infographic)]
The new results come from the Super Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (SuperCDMS), which takes place deep underground in the Soudan mine in northern Minnesota.
.

The Cryogenic Dark Matter Search experiment (SuperCDMS) uses five towers of dark matter detectors like the ones shown here.

For years, stories about the North Pond Hermit circulated around central Maine.
According to lore, the shadowy figure would sneak into cabins, camps and houses surrounding North Pond, and steal food, clothing, camping gear and other supplies. But he never took money and never caused damage, according to a 2005 story on the hermit in the Kennebec Journal newspaper.
Locals, the newspaper reported, said they found odd caches of goods in the woods. Some speculated the hermit slipped out on wet or dark nights, gliding across the 273-acre pond in a boat to burglarize camps, the newspaper reported.

An upcoming documentary promises to show an alleged, tiny “alien” being that was found a few years ago in Chile’s Atacama Desert. And when we say tiny, we’re talking six inches from head to ET toe.
The film, called “Sirius,” will also depict how readily available forms of alternative energy technology are what extraterrestrials may be using to travel here from the cosmically improbable distances between their home world and ours.
If this is all true, and that’s a very big IF, it will certainly answer the ages-old question of whether or not humans are alone in the universe.
The force behind “Sirius” is Steven Greer, a former emergency medical physician. He’s actively pursued avenues to get the U.S. government to reveal information about alien reality — information that the powers-that-be have always maintained doesn’t exist.

Archeologists have unearthed what looks like a cone-shaped alien skull from 1,000 years ago in Mexico.
The skull, which dates from 945 A.D. to 1308 A.D., was discovered accidentally while digging an irrigation system in the northwest state of Sonora in Mexico.
Cristina Garcia Moreno, who worked on the project with Arizona State University, explained that 13 of the 25 skulls found in the Hispanic cemetery had these deformed heads.
“We don’t know why this population specifically deformed their heads,” Moreno told ABC News.
The site, known as El Cementerio, was discovered in 1999, but the team just completed their analysis of the skeletal remains last month. They plan to continue their research during the next field season. Archaeologists also discovered artifacts on the site, like pendants, nose rings and jewelry.

Scientists may have discovered the first meteorite from Mercury.
The green rock found in Morocco last year may be the first known visitor from the solar system’s innermost planet, according to meteorite scientist Anthony Irving, who unveiled the new findings this month at the 44th annual Lunar and Planetary Science Conference in The Woodlands, Texas. The study suggests that a space rock called NWA 7325 came from Mercury, and not an asteroid or Mars.
NWA 7325 is actually a group of 35 meteorite samples discovered in 2012 in Morocco. They are ancient, with Irving and his team dating the rocks to an age of about 4.56 billion years.

The body’s own “training manual” for attacking HIV has been recorded by US scientists and it is hoped it can be used to design vaccines.
HIV mutates in order to survive the onslaught of a patient’s immune system.
However, some patients develop highly effective antibodies that can neutralise huge swathes of HIV mutants.
A North Carolina team analysed the arms race between body and virus, published in the journal Nature, and has shown how these antibodies are made.
When someone is infected with HIV, their body produces antibodies to attack it. But the virus mutates and evades the offensive, so the body produces new antibodies that the virus then evades and the war goes on.
