You could say Bessie Sedor’s reunion with her daughter after 67 years is the icing on the cake. Every year, Sedor would bake a cake on Aug. 3 to secretly honor the birthday of the child she placed for adoption in 1945. Her family asked why the fuss, and Sedor wouldn’t say, the Calgary Herald reported.

28-year-old David Nelson is being called a true American hero after he gave his life for a young girl. He was visiting a friend in Detroit when a car drove up and began shooting at a 12-year-old girl. He pulled her out of the way but ended up getting shot himself.

A Georgia woman’s heartwarming act is making headlines this week, poignantly proving the power of kindness, even between two strangers.
Branden Whitehead, a 20-year-old college student, was walking home from school last month when he was struck and critically injured in a hit and run accident, MyFoxAtlanta.com reported. The West Georgia Technical College student walks 15 miles to and from school, carrying a heavy bag of books–the trek takes four and a half hours.

Edvard Munch’s iconic work, “The Scream,” broke a world record tonight, becoming the most expensive artwork sold in an auction.
Estimates for the sale varied from $80 million to $200 million. The artwork — which is not a painting but is pastel on board — ended up selling for $119,922,500, surpassing the previous record-holder, Picasso’s “Nude, Green Leaves, and Bust,” which sold for $106.5 million in 2010. Cezanne’s “The Card Players” has the honor of going for the highest price, period (meaning not at auction) — it was sold in a private sale to Qatar (yes, the country) for $250 million last year.
