‘If you earn $200,000 or less,’ use the 1% spending rule to save money, says finance expert—here’s how it works

When you spend too much, a sense of shame or regret can overwhelm you — and even hold you back from your financial goals. On the other hand, not spending on the things or experiences that bring you joy can cause a sense of deprivation.

So how do you find the right balance?

As a financial analyst and host of the podcast Popcorn Finance, I get to hear about the creative strategies people use to curb their spending. One of my favorites comes from Glen James, who hosts one of Australia’s top finance podcasts, My Millennial Money.

Online Dating Is Changing the Nature of Society

.

Not so long ago, nobody met a partner online. Then, in the 1990s, came the first dating websites.

Match.com went live in 1995. A new wave of dating websites, such as OkCupid, emerged in the early 2000s. And the 2012 arrival of Tinder changed dating even further. Today, more than one-third of marriages start online.

Clearly, these sites have had a huge impact on dating behavior. But evidence is emerging that their effect is much more profound.

Are microplastics accumulating in your body?

.

Those tiny little pieces of plastic get into our bodies and circulate everywhere, which affects our health in many ways.

They can impact our immune system, our digestive system, our endocrine system, and more…

Why do we have microplastics in our bodies?

You probably already know this… our oceans are full of plastic!

By the year 2050, the World Economic Forum thinks that our oceans will contain more plastic than fish… that’s pretty sad!

The plastic disintegrates and the fish eat the microplastics… and we eat the fish!

But microplastics don’t only come from the fish we eat, we also get them from the water we drink and the air we breathe…

A recent study by the Environment Agency Austria estimated that more than half of the world population may have microplastics in their stools.

Meet the typical 40-year-old millennial, who has $128,000 in debt, is not nearly as wealthy as their parents were, and is known as ‘geriatric’

The oldest millennials enter middle age this year.

The generation is now aged between 25 and 40, according to the Pew Research Center’s definition.

Yes, like everyone, millennials are aging, but it’s a hard concept to grasp when the media narrative has painted millennials as young, frivolous 20-somethings who love selfies and can’t afford anything because they spend too much money on avocado toast.

It’s an inaccurate picture of the generation, which has been shaped by technological advancements and a broken economy. But the typical 40-year-old millennial especially doesn’t quite align with this image. Many feel they embody some characteristics of both Gen X and millennials, having experience with both analog and digital worlds.

The online data that’s being deleted

How would you adjust your efforts to preserve digital data that belongs to you – emails, text messages, photos, and documents – if you knew it would soon get wiped in a series of devastating electrical storms?

That’s the future catastrophe imagined by Susan Donovan, a high school teacher and science fiction writer based in New York. In her self-published story New York Hypogeographies, she describes a future in which vast amounts of data get deleted thanks to electrical disturbances in the year 2250.

In the years afterward, archaeologists comb through ruined city apartments looking for artifacts from the past – the early 2000s.

“I was thinking about, ‘How would it change people going through an event where all of your digital stuff is just gone?’” she says.

In her story, the catastrophic data loss is not a world-ending event. But it is a hugely disruptive one. And it prompts a change in how people preserve important data. The storms bring a renaissance of printing, Donovan writes. But people are also left wondering how to store things that can’t be printed – augmented reality games, for instance.

5 No-Brainer Stocks to Invest $200 in Right Now

Click the link below the picture

.

Key Points

  • It’s always an opportune time for long-term investors to put money to work in the stock market.

Where should you invest $1,000 right now?

This past week, the broad-based S&P 500 hit a fresh all-time closing high, which has been a common theme for the widely followed index this year.

But just because the benchmark index is higher now than at any point in its storied history doesn’t mean it’s not an opportune time to put money to work in the market. History has shown time and again that growth in operating earnings pushes the valuation of high-quality companies higher over time. In other words, even though stock market corrections happen frequently, they’re inconsequential to the gains investors can generate from buying and holding great companies.

If you have $200 in cash ready to put to work, which won’t be needed to cover bills or an emergency, the following five stocks are no-brainer buys that you can invest in right now.

Turn off, turn on: Simple step can thwart top phone hackers

.

As a member of the secretive Senate Intelligence Committee, Sen. Angus King has reason to worry about hackers. At a briefing by security staff this year, he said he got some advice on how to help keep his cellphone secure.

Step One: Turn off phone.

Step Two: Turn it back on.

That’s it. At a time of widespread digital insecurity, it turns out that the oldest and simplest computer fix there is — turning a device off then back on again — can thwart hackers from stealing information from smartphones.

Regularly rebooting phones won’t stop the army of cybercriminals or spy-for-hire firms that have sowed chaos and doubt about the ability to keep any information safe and private in our digital lives. But it can make even the most sophisticated hackers work harder to maintain access and steal data from a phone.

“This is all about imposing cost on these malicious actors,” said Neal Ziring, technical director of the National Security Agency’s cybersecurity directorate.
