NASHVILLE — First came the warning, then came the blast, shattering the Christmas morning silence in the heart of the city’s tourist district.
Before dawn on Friday, Nashville police officers rushed to calls of gunfire on Second Avenue, a strip of honky-tonks, restaurants, and boot shops. Instead of gunfire, they found an R.V., blaring a strange and unsettling message: There was a bomb. It would detonate in 15 minutes.
When it did, the explosion sent plumes of smoke billowing above the city, blew out windows in shops and offices for several blocks, left three people hospitalized — and Nashville shaken.

Among road-trip enthusiasts, the Alaska Highway is a favorite. It runs more than 1,300 miles, dazzling travelers with tundras and sightings of eagles, caribou, and the like.
But if you want to take the road less traveled, a study by the GPS-company Geotab suggests you should go north to the James W. Dalton Highway, Alaska’s hidden gem. It runs 414 miles from Fairbanks to Deadhorse, and sees mostly ice road truckers, with few service stations and small towns in between. You would, however, be greeted by majestic snow-covered mountains and glimpses of the Yukon River.

“You say that he raped an actress,” Cicero told the court. “And this is said to have happened at Atina, while he was quite young.”
There was a low, subdued chuckle from the crowd. They were all men — women weren’t allowed inside the courtroom — most from the town of Atina themselves. They’d made the 80-mile trip to support a man they respected, whom they believed had been unfairly accused.
His name was Gnaeus Plancius, and in the year 54 B.C., he was one of the most powerful men in Rome.
It was more than 2,000 years before the #MeToo movement, but a scene similar to the ones we’ve witnessed so often lately was already playing out. A prominent politician was on trial for corruption and bribery, charges bolstered by dirt his enemies had dug up from his past: the violent sexual assault of a young girl.

Note: THE KARAKORAM HIGHWAY
The attributes of this unbelievable roadway, the Karakoram Highway, extending from Pakistan to China, is fast becoming recognized as the 8th man-made wonder of the world. Known informally as the KKH, it is the highest paved international road in the world. I would not like to have to drive this road in the daytime, let alone at night. Yikes!!!
At its peak, near the China/Pakistan border, it is considered to be one of the world’s hardest alpine climbs. The Karakorum Highway connects China and Pakistan across the Karakoram mountain range via the Khunjerab Pass. Its maximum elevation is 4,693 meters (15,397 feet) above sea level.
810 Pakistani and 82 Chinese workers lost their lives in landslides and falls while building the highway.
The route of the KKH traces one of the many paths of the ancient Silk Road and has a total length of approximately 1,300 Km. (800 miles). 887 Km. (551 miles) in Pakistan and 413 Km. (257 miles) in China. It was started in 1959 and completed 27 years later in 1986.

The Senate late Monday approved a mammoth package of emergency economic relief, government funding, and tax cuts, sending one of the largest pieces of legislation ever approved by Congress to President Trump for enactment.
The legislation was the product of intense negotiations over the past two weeks and was introduced as a 5,593-page bill earlier on Monday. The Senate passed the bill with a 92-to-6 vote at 11:42 p.m., about two hours after the House easily passed it. The bill reflected a growing unease in Washington about the spike in coronavirus cases and deaths and recent signs that the economy is weakening markedly. Nine months after the pandemic upended the U.S. economy, government leaders are still scrambling to try to contain the carnage exacted on millions of households and businesses in every U.S. state.
Vice President-elect Kamala D. Harris, who is still a senator from California until next month, was among the bipartisan group of lawmakers to vote on the bill.
“Yes, there is more work to do, and it will cost some money, but it will protect jobs and, most importantly, it will meet the needs of the American people — to crush this virus and to do so in a way that brings us all into the future in a very safe way,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said.

He is an older white male, a self-described “capitalist pig”, and an evangelical Christian who almost always votes conservative. He hates government intervention in his life – and yours.

Ramsey believes that as long as you have one red cent of debt – credit card debt, student loans, car payments, mortgages, medical bills – you can never be free. The day you take scissors to your credit cards is the beginning of your financial salvation.
