A South Carolina girl kidnapped by her mother when she was just 10 months old has been found alive in Australia, 19 years after she went missing.
.
Savanna Harris Todd, now 20 and living under the name Samantha Geldenhuys, appeared at her mother’s side in court Wednesday, holding a sign that said, “We love you, Mom,” according to the Australian.
Todd was living a “safe, healthy and otherwise living a normal life” in Queensland, U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles said in a statement announcing the development Thursday.
Todd’s mother, Dorothy Lee Barnett, was charged with international parental kidnapping and two counts of false statements in a passport application after being captured on November 4 following a joint investigation by Australian federal police and the FBI.
A South Carolina court handed custody of Todd over to her father after determining that Barnett had bipolar disorder. But rather than give her child up, Barnett fled South Carolina in 1994 and spent the next two decades living under several aliases in South Africa, New Zealand, and finally, Australia.

A federal appeals court in Missouri has upheld the execution of white supremacist serial killer Joseph Paul Franklin, restoring the state’s plans to kill Franklin just hours after the execution was blocked.
The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled early Wednesday that Missouri could proceed with Franklin’s execution. The order came just hours after a lower court blocked the execution and claimed the state’s disputed protocol for administering lethal injection must be resolved.
The latest ruling means that only the U.S. Supreme Court can intervene and stop the execution.

Franklin, who threatened to kill again if allowed to live, was sentenced to death for killing a man in a sniper shooting at a synagogue in 1977. The 46-year-old Franklin represented himself during the trial and had asked the all-white, all-male jury for the death sentence, thanking the court for a fair trail after the sentencing. What began as a game of trivia last summer at Two Rivers Steak and Fish House in Pasadena ended with a Severna Park man trying to kill his mother.
Nicholas Perrin, 28, of the 200 block of Evergreen Road, pleaded guilty last week in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court to first-degree assault for the violent attack on his mother, Joy, in July. His sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 15.
Perrin told police he wanted to kill his mother and himself that night after his mom said she wanted to leave the trivia game early, according to charging documents. There had been an argument over the answer to a question just prior to the attack, charging documents state.
Perrin had long felt ill-will toward his mother, he told police. After losing his job that week, Perrin told investigators he felt he had nothing to stop him from killing her. He was suffering from depression at the time.

A newlywed accused of pushing her husband off a cliff when she had second thoughts about her marriage may have blindfolded him before the fatal act, prosecutors say.
The new theory suggests that Jordan Linn Graham pre-meditated the alleged murder of Cody Lee Johnson, her husband of eight days.
Defense attorneys for Graham, 22, claim that the state has provided no evidence of a blindfold, according to court documents obtained by CNN. Prosecutors are awaiting DNA test results on a piece of cloth discovered in the vicinity of Johnson’s body, the Missoulian reports.
The blindfold theory flies in the face of Graham’s claim that her husband’s death was an accident. As a result, Graham and her attorneys want her scheduled December trial postponed, claiming that they are unprepared to offer a proper defense. Graham previously pleaded not guilty to murder charges.

A family determined to save their kidnapped relative tracked her down to an abandoned Louisiana house, saving her life and killing her captor after she went missing for almost three full days, according to multiple sources.
Bethany Arceneaux, 29, was allegedly abducted Wednesday afternoon in Lafayette by her ex-boyfriend Scott Thomas, also 29, and the father to her 2-year-old son, The Daily Advertiser first reports.
A witness to the abduction, Derrimetrie Robinson, said she saw Arceneaux honking her car horn for help in a parking lot as Thomas forced his way into her car and attacked her. When Robinson rushed to the scene, Arceneaux begged the woman to take her son, according to the Advertiser.
Robinson managed to grab the 2-year-old boy during the struggle, as Thomas shoved Arceneaux into his car and sped away, she said.

As a young boy, David Amaya was told that his mother abandoned him in Mexico and fled for the United States.
The truth is that Kathy Amaya has been looking for David for more than 30 years. She told KNSD this week that David — now 37 — is back in the country after her estranged husband abducted him and took him to Mexico when he was a young child.
“I went to file a report, and they were saying they couldn’t do anything because he was in Mexico,” Kathy told WEAU.
She said she never gave up the search and hopes to finally be able to see him in person — as a man.
She explained that her ex picked up little David from her sister in Chicago and never returned. Decades later, she got an unlikely call.
“The border patrol in San Diego called me and told me that they had someone detained that was crossing the border and he said his name was David Amaya,” she told WEAU.

A Missouri man accused of planning for his daughter to be beaten and raped was swiftly arrested by police last Friday.
Anthony Brinkman, 32, allegedly placed an ad online looking for someone to beat and rape his 11-year-old daughter while he watched, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
What Brinkman didn’t count on was an undercover officer responding to the request. Officer Randy Vaughn, a spokesman for the St. Louis County Police Department, said the undercover officer agreed to meet the suspect at a predetermined location, KMOV reported.
Brinkman then took his 11-year-old daughter 80 miles away from their home in Cuba, Mo. to St. Louis. He thought he was meeting a woman interested in sexually assaulting the girl with sex toys, according to KSDK. When he pulled into the meeting spot — a local Cracker Barrel — he was immediately taken into custody.

The suspect accused of opening fire inside the Los Angeles airport was determined to lash out at the Transportation Security Administration, saying in a note that he wanted to kill at least one TSA officer and didn’t care which one, authorities said Saturday.
It’s not clear why Paul Ciancia targeted the agency, but the note found in his duffel bag suggested the 23-year-old unemployed motorcycle mechanic was willing to kill almost any officer he could confront with his AR-15 semi-automatic rifle.
“Black, white, yellow, brown, I don’t discriminate,” the note read, according to a paraphrase by a law enforcement official briefed on the investigation. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly.
The suspect’s screed also mentioned “fiat currency” and “NWO,” possible references to the New World Order, a conspiracy theory that foresees a totalitarian one-world government.
