Received This Joke From A Friend

.

A teenage boy had just passed his driving test and inquired of his father as to when they could discuss his use of the car.

His father said he’d make a deal with his son, “You bring your grades up from a C toa B average, study your Bible a little and get your hair cut. Then we’ll talk about the car.”

The boy thought about that for a moment, decided he’d settle for the offer and they agreed on it.

After about six weeks his father said, “Son, you’ve brought your grades up and I’ve  observed that you have been studying your Bible, but I’m disappointed you haven’t had your hair cut.”

The boy said, “You know, Dad, I’ve been thinking about that, and I’ve noticed in my studies of the Bible that Samson had long hair, John the Baptist had long hair, Moses had long hair, and there’s even strong evidence that Jesus had long hair.”

Love the father’s reply:

“Did you also notice that they all walked everywhere they went?”

Triglav National Park (TNP) is the only national park in Slovenia. It was established in its modern form in 1981 and is located in the northwestern part of the country, respectively the southeastern part of the Alpine massif. Mount Triglav, the highest peak of the Julian Alps, stands almost in the middle of the national park. From it the valleys spread out radially, supplying water to two large river systems with their sources in the Julian Alps: the Soča and the Sava, flowing to the Adriatic and the Black Sea, respectively. The 5 Habits That Will Help You Burn Fat Efficiently

.

In recent years, weight loss through unsustainable means has become wildly popular, but it really shouldn’t be.

If you want to lose weight to improve your overall well-being or achieve your fitness goals, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, so long as you take a healthy approach.

The problem is, when you focus only on aesthetic goals, you often miss out on the bigger picture. Restrictive diets, fancy weight loss products, and using exercise as punishment are common traps that people fall into when trying to lose weight, and they are not healthy or sustainable methods.

When I made changes to get healthier and fitter five years ago, I had no intention of losing weight. I simply wanted to feel more energized, nourish my body with natural foods, and exercise in a way that I enjoyed each and every day. I chose to develop healthy and sustainable habits which have stuck with me ever since.

Research shows that the following five habits can help you burn fat efficiently. Most importantly, they are healthy and sustainable, and they just so happen to be some of the habits I adopted five years ago. So go ahead and ditch the weight loss shakes, detox teas, and restrictive diets, and focus on achieving balance through the following practices instead.

Could Bigfoot Really Be Out There?

The film is mostly three-and-a-half minutes of grainy fall foliage, men riding horses, and jerky pans. The famous footage—used for decades afterward in every documentary about whether Bigfoot is real or fake—comes across as just someone having fun with their new camera. But, about two minutes in, the lens of a rented 16mm Cine Kodak camera catches something strange.

“We were just riding out alongside the creek, riding along enjoying the warm sunshine day,” says Bob Gimlin. “Then, across the creek, there was one standing. Everything happened so fast.”

What Gimlin’s camera sees is a strange, large ape-like figure limbering on its hind legs across a clearing. For a brief moment, the animal appears to look directly at the camera, and, then, it’s gone. This is the famed Patterson-Gimlin film reportedly shot in October 1967 in the heavily wooded forests of Northern California, and it is one of the most heavily analyzed pieces of film in American history. To some, this is definitive proof that Bigfoot is as real as mountain gorillas or narwhals. For others, it’s a hoax alongside videos claiming to show ghosts, aliens, and lizard people. But Gimlin knows exactly what he saw that day. “It walked upright and for quite a long ways. It didn’t look like a bear. I’ve been in the woods my whole life,” 86-year-old Gimlin tells Popular Mechanics. “There’s no doubt in my mind at all what it was.”

Is that Bigfoot over there?

The Workout and Diet That Gave Me Shredded Abs in 11 Weeks

I’ve always been physically active; I enjoy going to the gym, but also rock climbing, biking, and skiing. However, my ability to train really declined during COVID, as I didn’t have access to a gym during the first six months of quarantine and many of my outdoor activities were also off-limits. This was the longest I’d ever gone without training, and I was shocked by how quickly my body deteriorated.

Prior to the pandemic, my diet was generally quite healthy, but without a normal routine, it worsened significantly. I found it much harder to avoid pizza, pasta, and unhealthy snacking, all of which contributed to feeling worse.

After six months of quarantine in the Hamptons, I needed a change and moved to LA, where I met Eddie Baruta, a senior trainer at Ultimate Performance Fitness. We started working out (socially distanced and outdoors) three times a week in the UP gym, focusing mainly on strength training and full-body workouts. I supplemented this with up to 60 minutes of cardio on other days. Being back in the gym was motivating in and of itself. Then, on non-gym days, Eddie would frequently check-in and hold me accountable when it came to my cardio and diet plan.

I began tracking every meal and snack to ensure I was hitting my daily calories and macro goals. I more-than-doubled my protein consumption, kept high-carb meals to a minimum, and drank 120 ounces of water every day. I also reduced my alcohol intake but didn’t eliminate drinking entirely until the final two weeks of the program.

Why the F-35 Is Such a Badass Plane

Fourth-generation fighters hailing from all three nations—including F-16 Fighting Falcons, F-15 Eagles, and Eurofighter Typhoons—coordinated with E-8 Joint STARS command-and-control aircraft. As their stealthy escorts, both F-22 Raptors and F-35 Joint Strike Fighters surveyed the battlespace.

Soon, cockpit displays in each aircraft began to light up and alarms sounded, indicating that the formation was being painted by multiple radar arrays tied to surface-to-air missiles and inbound fighters. Enemy fighters sporting the color schemes of Russian Su-30s began to close in.

“On the last week of a Red Flag exercise we really throw everything we have at the Blue Force and replicate the toughest adversary possible,” says Travolis “Jaws” Simmons, commander of the 57th Adversary Tactics Group.

Ultimately, the F-35 won the day, breaking down one of the world’s most advanced air defense networks and relaying the data to missile-packed fighters like the F-16.

The Best Noise-Canceling Headphones to Drown Out Your Surroundings

.

You might see noise-canceling headphones most often on the domes of frequent travelers, shielding their ears as they try to tune out the many other sounds on the plane or train. But they certainly aren’t the only ones who can benefit from tuning out ambient noise. Many people who work in open offices turn to noise-canceling headphones when they need to focus. And if you still find yourself working from home, a good pair may be essential to drown out your housemates’ chatter and get to work. Here, we’ve rounded up some of the best, as well as provide some background on the tech.

How Noise Cancelation Works

More headphones than ever come equipped with noise-cancellation features, including regular over-ear models and compact, wireless earbuds. They do more than simply physically block sounds from entering your ear canal—active noise cancellation (ANC) actually uses a microphone to process the ambient sound, and then the circuitry produces “opposite” sound waves to reduce the unwanted vibrations. While this doesn’t necessarily eliminate all external sound, it can block about 70 percent of ambient noise, effectively dulling lower-frequency tones like the roar of an airplane or traffic or the bustling of a coffee shop.

For many people who just want to play music or podcasts to block sound, a pair of regular headphones or earbuds may do the trick for simply drowning out the babble. But, according to The Guardian, exposure to too much background noise for several hours a day can raise stress levels and even cause permanent hearing damage over time. So many travelers and big-city commuters may find the extra cost of ANC worthwhile for their general health and wellness.

The Man in the MTA’s Money Room

.

‘I got a couple of billion dollars rolling around through here,” Al Putre says, gesturing downward toward the floors below. We are sitting in the conference room next to his office, which is on one of the upper levels of a blocky, nearly unmarked building in southwest Queens. (He has asked me not to reveal where it is more precisely — “Call it a secret location. They like that” — although you can probably figure it out with Google.) On your way there, you pass mostly businesses that sell steel pipe and cinder blocks from behind barbed wire, plus the odd strip club. Every nickel’s worth of cash that comes into the MTA, and every MetroCard that goes out, passes through this building and thus under Putre’s eye. Although the agency’s income is down a lot owing to the pandemic, the amount of cash that passes through most years, give or take, is about $1.5 billion.

Putre talks fast — and I mean fast — in a Queens accent that is on the endangered-species list, and has a high-and-tight graying haircut that would not be out of place in a precinct house. He’s been with the MTA for 34 years, and in charge of the division of revenue — the money rooms and their associated operations — since 1999. On the day we meet, he’s a couple of days from retirement. He started in the era of subway tokens in cloth sacks and overnight runs of the money train; he wraps up his career managing a digital river of electronic payments and the launch of OMNY, the system that will soon replace the MetroCard. What he clearly loves, even more than the job or the agency or the piles of cash is a system. Ask him about the change that riders drop into the farebox on the bus, which gets picked up at the depots and brought to the money room, and here’s what he’ll tell you, in the space of 90 seconds, incorporating a quick hallway encounter with a colleague:

“We suck all the money out of fareboxes via a Keene vacuum system. There’s only one other agency in the world I’m aware of that does that. Philly was at one time, but I’m not even sure if they do anymore. You need to have high volumes of coins and large numbers of buses. We fit that bill — Hey, partner, how are you? You’ll see the vaults here: They look old, they are old, but they last very, very well. They’re durable. And the system is set up so it’s sealed. So from the moment a bus pulls in, the money gets vacuumed out via a port, and that port is connected to a vacuum hose and a probe. The probe takes the data from the farebox, sends it up to the AFC [automated fare collection]. The vacuum sucks it up into the ceiling to a shaker-sorter, a sifter. The coin goes into the vaults by denomination. Why is that important? You can count separated coin extremely fast, 10,000 pieces per minute. If you get the coin unseparated and you have to sort it, the speed goes down to 2,500 pieces per minute, and it wears the machines out. The TA separating this coin makes this operation smooth as silk. You’ll see what I mean.”
