Residents of a Russian town invaded by polar bears have said they are taking children to school by car and patrolling the streets with stun grenades as they wait for bear experts to arrive.
Nadezhda Kireyeva, a postal worker in the Arctic military town of Belushya Guba, told The Telegraph that locals have taken precautions against attack while trying to continue with their daily lives, even though coming face-to-face with a polar bear incites a mix of “adrenaline, terror and the question of what to do”. She recently saw a group of seven bears on the street.
According to Ms Kireyeva, the town’s 2,000 residents have become more vigilant and don’t go outside alone. Despite the short distances, cars have been organized to bring employees to work and children to school. Soldiers are under orders to move around only in vehicles.

These three habits help your body, and also have a positive impact on your brain.
You might think that the impact of aging on the brain is something you can’t do much about. After all, isn’t it an inevitability?
To an extent, as we may not be able to rewind the clock and change our levels of higher education or intelligence (both factors that delay the onset of symptoms of aging). But adopting specific lifestyle behaviors–whether you’re in your thirties or late forties–can have a tangible effect on how well you age. Even in your fifties and beyond, activities like learning a new language or musical instrument, taking part in aerobic exercise, and developing meaningful social relationships can do wonders for your brain. There’s no question that when we compromise on looking after ourselves, our aging minds pick up the tab.

Tax law prohibits nonprofits from paying inflated prices to entities that are owned by people who also control the nonprofit’s activities.
Federal prosecutors in New York are circling Donald Trump’s inaugural committee as part of a wide-ranging investigation into possible money laundering, illegal contributions and cash-for-access schemes. Now, WNYC and ProPublica have identified evidence of potential tax law violations by the committee.
A spokesman confirmed that the nonprofit 58th Presidential Inaugural Committee paid the Trump International Hotel a rate of $175,000 per day for event space — in spite of internal objections at the time that the rate was far too high. If the committee is deemed by auditors or prosecutors to have paid an above-market rate, that could violate tax laws prohibiting self-dealing, according to experts.

The 2019 Academy Awards ceremony will have no host for the first time in three decades.
After weeks of scrambling to find a replacement for actor and comedian Kevin Hart, who stepped down following backlash over past homophobic comments, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences ultimately opted to forgo having a host, ABC Entertainment PR and an academy spokesperson told ABC News on Tuesday.
The academy did not immediately respond to HuffPost’s request for comment.
The academy selected Hart in early December to host the 91st Academy Awards following a prolonged search amid declining ratings for the annual broadcast. The choice quickly came under fire, with critics noting the comedian’s previous tweets and jokes expressing homophobia.

Super Bowl commercials played it safe this year: light on the political commentary, heavy on the celebrity spokespeople. There weren’t even that many puppies and babies, unless you count the creepy TurboTax baby robot that longed to become an accountant. But what we lacked in cute animals, we made up for in ‘90s nostalgia, from Stella Artois’s callbacks to “The Big Lebowski” and “Sex and the City,” Doritos’ Backstreet Boys remix, and Olay’s nod to the teen slasher film “I Know What You Did Last Summer.”
The ads that stood out this year excelled in the basics: clever wordplay, good comedic timing, tugging at heartstrings without being schmaltzy and unexpected twists. Here are the 10 ads that we thought were the best — excluding The Washington Post’s first Super Bowl ad, of course, because we’re biased toward that one.
