A professor who correctly predicted the result of every US presidential election since 1984 has claimed Donald Trump is certain to be impeached.
Allan Lichtman, a history professor at American University, uses a system of measures he calls “keys” to predict political outcomes and is now so convinced Mr Trump will face impeachment that he is writing a book on it.
The text, titled “The Case for Impeachment”, will be published in April by HarperCollins. It will include Professor Lichtman’s assessment of how Mr Trump could be impeached, based on analysis showing how his actions make him “uniquely vulnerable” to disciplinary proceedings.
“Professor Lichtman has correctly predicted every Presidential election since 1984, including the election of 2016”, said a spokesperson for HarperCollins.

Larry Coryell was such a distinguished and distinctive guitarist to call him underrated seems ludicrous.
But scrolling through about a dozen “best jazz guitarist” lists, I found the same legendary names over and over: Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, Jim Hall, Pat Metheny, Kenny Burrell, Pat Martino, Charlie Christian, Grant Green, Bill Frisell, John Scofield, John McLaughlin and so on.
Perhaps his omission is because he directed his jazz fusion further toward rock ‘n’ roll than others, or perhaps because his style reflected a broad base of study with detours into blues, country, classical and other forms over a prolific recording career. But Coryell, who died Sunday at 73, belongs in such venerable company.
His connection to Texas is thin. He’s a Galveston native, born there in 1943. But Coryell’s family headed to the northwest and he was raised in Seattle. By 1965 he was in New York, and soon after working with the great drummer and bandleader Chico Hamilton. In 1968 he began recording as a leader and a year later issued “Coryell” and “Lady Coryell.” Both testify to a formidable rising talent.

Mounting research continues to show the links between the health of the gut and that of the brain. Now, a new study from Lund University in Sweden finds that unhealthy intestinal flora can accelerate the development of Alzheimer’s disease.
The report, published Feb. 8 in the journal Scientific Reports, demonstrates that mice with Alzheimer’s have a different gut bacterial profile than those that do not have the disease.
The gut microbiome is highly responsive to dietary and lifestyle factors. This suggests that a gut-healthy diet may play a powerful role in preventing one of the most feared diseases in America.
“Alzheimer’s is a preventable disease and in the near future we will likely be able to give advice on what to eat to prevent it,” study author Dr. Frida Fak Hållenius, associate professor at the university’s Food for Health Science Centre, told The Huffington Post. “Take care of your gut bacteria, by eating lots of whole-grains, fruits and vegetables.”

The sea continued to claim the lives of migrants desperate for better lives, with 74 bodies washing ashore in Libya.
Mohammed al-Misrati, a spokesman for the Libyan Red Crescent, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that the human remains would be taken to a cemetery for unidentified people in Tripoli.
International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies posted photographs on its Twitter account of dozens of corpses in body bags, lined up along the shore.

A CIA analyst and spokesman for the National Security Council said he resigned from the intelligence agency last week because he cannot in “good faith” work under the Trump administration.
In an op-ed written for the Washington Post, Edward Price, who served under presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, said he started his career with the CIA nearly 15 years ago, but left the agency after what he viewed to be a number of slights by new President Donald Trump.
Price said he was reluctant to leave and said he didn’t think anything would ever tear him away from his chosen career path. But he was pushed over the edge after Trump issued a directive reorganizing the National Security Council, which Price said he served on as a staff member from 2014 until earlier this year.

The White House on Tuesday signaled it was preparing to reverse a U.S. policy on transgender rights, raising concern among rights advocates that Republican President Donald Trump is about to revoke a signature initiative of his predecessor.
Former Democratic President Barack Obama’s administration issued guidance to public schools last May to allow transgender students to use bathrooms matching their gender identity, a move transgender people hailed as a civil rights victory.
Asked at a news briefing about concerns the government would reverse the guidance, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said Trump believed the matter was an issue for the states to decide, which is contrary to the Obama stance.

A federal judge in Texas ruled Tuesday that the state can’t cut off funding for Planned Parenthood over secretly recorded videos taken by anti-abortion activists in 2015, which critics said were misleading and heavily edited.
“A secretly recorded video, fake names, a grand jury indictment, congressional investigations — these are the building blocks of a best-selling novel rather than a case concerning the interplay of federal and state authority through the Medicaid program,” U.S. District Judge Sam Sparks wrote in an order.
“Yet, rather than a villain plotting to take over the world, the subject of this case is the State of Texas’s efforts to expel a group of health care providers from a social health care program for families and individuals with limited resources,” Sparks wrote.

The Republican leader of the United States Senate was asked last week if he believed the Republican president’s denial that his campaign colluded with the foreign power that was trying to help him win.
Mitch McConnell’s answer: “I have no idea.”
His office later said that McConnell misunderstood the question ― that he thought he was being asked if he personally knew whether Trump’s campaign had colluded with Russia. Regardless, McConnell’s four words represent the new president’s problem in a nutshell. Having made falsehoods a staple of his public discourse, Donald Trump now faces enormous hurdles in getting even his presumptive allies to put their names behind his credibility.
Trump has made untrue statements about the size of his inauguration crowd, the “standing ovation” he received at CIA headquarters, the “millions” of “illegal” votes cast in the November election, the murder rate, the news coverage given to terror attacks, and, just Saturday at his Florida “campaign” rally, about the amount of vetting refugees trying to enter the country must undergo and about a nonexistent terror incident in Sweden.
