US prosecutors are building potential cases that would accuse North Korea of directing the theft of $81million from Bangladesh Bank’s account at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York last year.
It would try and charge alleged Chinese middlemen, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.
The US Federal Bureau of Investigation believes that North Korea is responsible for the heist, an official briefed on the probe told Reuters.
Richard Ledgett, deputy director of the US National Security Agency, publicly suggested on Tuesday that North Korea may be linked to the incident, while private firms have long pointed the finger at the reclusive state.
The Journal, citing people familiar with the matter, reported that prosecutors believe Chinese middlemen helped North Korea orchestrate the theft from Bangladesh’s central bank, which was among the biggest bank robberies in modern times.

You hear it from Republicans, pundits and even some Democrats. It’s often said in a tone of regret: I wish Obama had done health reform in a bipartisan way, rather than jamming through a partisan bill.
The lament seems to have the ring of truth, given that not a single Republican in Congress voted for Obamacare. Yet it is false —demonstrably so.
That it’s nonetheless stuck helps explain how the Republicans have landed in such a mess on health care. The Congressional Budget Office released a jaw-dropping report Monday estimating that the Republican health plan would take insurance from 24 million people, many of them Republican voters, and raise medical costs for others. The bill effectively rescinds benefits for the elderly, poor, sick and middle class, and funnels the money to the rich, via tax cuts.

Cancer scientists have made an important breakthrough in understanding how the disease spreads, it was announced today.
Researchers at the University of Glasgow discovered how a particular cancer molecule speeded up the growth of the disease.
A report due to be published this week in Nature magazine describes how the molecule, called Myc, accelerates the growth of dividing cancer cells.
Cells have to grow to a certain size before they can split in two and they achieve this by producing protein.

Pete Hamilton, who was at his best at NASCAR’s superspeedways, died Wednesday. He was 74.
Hamilton won four career Cup races – including consecutive Daytona 500s in 1970 and ’71. He also won twice at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway in 1971.
Hamilton’s victory at Daytona in 1970 came in the No. 40 Plymouth Superbird of Petty Enterprises, for which he ran 16 races that season. The other Petty car – No. 43 – was driven by Richard Petty.
“We ran two cars in 1970, and Plymouth helped introduce us to Pete,” Petty said in a statement. “They wanted us to run a second car with him on the bigger tracks. ‘Chief’ (Maurice Petty) led that car and started in the Daytona 500. Pete and ‘Chief’ won the race, and it was a big deal. It was great to have Pete as part of the team. He was a great teammate. We send our prayers to his family.”
Hamilton, born in 1942 in Dedham, Mass., and Maurice Petty made an instant driver-crew chief connection.

House Republicans simply did not have enough GOP votes to pass the health care bill, which also was supported by President Donald Trump.
Republican leaders pulled the bill from the House floor minutes ahead of a schedule vote, rather than watch it go down to defeat.
According to a tally by NBC News, at least 34 Republicans had said publicly over the last few days that they were planning to vote against the measure or leaning toward voting no on the “American Health Care Act.” It’s possible there were other Republican lawmakers who also would have voted no but had not yet made their position public. All House Democrats had planned to vote against the bill.

Republicans abruptly pulled their health care bill from the House floor on Friday, just minutes ahead of a planned vote, dealing a devastating blow to efforts by President Donald Trump and the GOP to repeal and replace Obamacare.
“This is a disappointing day for us,” Speaker Paul Ryan told reporters shortly after the bill was yanked. “Doing big things is hard. All of us, myself included, will need time to reflect how we got to this moment, what we could have done to do it better.”
Ryan said he told Trump earlier at the White House that they didn’t have the Republican votes needed to pass the bill. “I told him that the best thing I think to do is to pull this bill and he agreed with that decision,” Ryan said.

The company owned by the family of Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and senior White House advisor, has unveiled plans for a makeover of a New York City building.
The Wall Street Journal said Tuesday that Kushner’s role in the White House is complicating the process due to the potential for conflicts of interest, even though he has sold his stake in this and other family owned properties.
But the possible conflicts aren’t getting nearly as much attention as the building’s design, which Twitter users say is unmistakably phallic.

The knife-wielding terrorist who killed an American tourist and three others outside the U.K. Parliament was British-born and previously investigated for “violent extremism,” officials said Thursday.
Police identified the suspect as Khalid Masood, 52, on Thursday. Authorities said Masood was born in Kent and detectives believe he was most recently living in the West Midlands. He was known by a number of aliases, police said.
Masood was known to security services as “a peripheral figure” and “was not part of the current intelligence picture,” Prime Minister Theresa May told the House of Commons on Thursday.
