Prime Minister Theresa May earlier revealed that Masood was once linked to violent extremism but was regarded as a “peripheral figure.” She also told Parliament he was thought to be inspired by Islamist ideology.
Police arrested eight people in raids around Britain, as an ISIS-affiliated news agency claimed that the extremist group was behind Wednesday’s outrage.
Three people died in the attack — an American man, a British woman of Spanish origin and a police officer stabbed as he defended Parliament. Another 40, many of them from other countries, were injured. Of those, 29 required hospital treatment and seven are critical, police said.
.
Confirmation of the perpetrator’s identity came more than 24 hours after he launched the attack, in which he plowed a car into crowds of people on Westminster Bridge, killing two, before stabbing the police officer dead in the grounds of the UK Parliament.

Chuck Barris, whose game show empire included “The Dating Game,” ”The Newlywed Game” and that infamous factory of cheese, “The Gong Show,” died at 87.
Barris died of natural causes Tuesday afternoon at his home in Palisades, New York, according to publicist Paul Shefrin.
Decades before shows such as “American Idol” and “America’s Got Talent” came along, Barris put everyday people who did not mind exposing their vulnerabilities or answering embarrassing questions before the cameras.

Kevin Burnes thinks his school saved his life. He arrived there at 14 years old, just out of rehab, and says it was exactly what he needed: a place where kids with drug and alcohol problems could stay on a path of recovery as they worked toward high school graduation.
“I have no question that it changed the course of everything I was doing,” said Burnes, now a music teacher and musician.
The school that made the difference was Phoenix, in Montgomery County, believed to have been the first of its kind in the country. It opened in 1979 amid concerns about student drug use and continued for decades before fizzling to an end four years ago at a time of flux for alternative programs.
Now the idea may be making a comeback, with school leaders looking into the possibility of a new “recovery” school program as the nation’s opioid epidemic draws wide attention. While some in Montgomery pose questions about cost and effectiveness, others say the program worked well years ago and could help those who struggle with addiction today.

The advocacy groups helmed by Charles and David Koch have unveiled a new pool of money for advertisements, field programs and mailings that would exclude those who vote for the health care bill they oppose on Thursday. The effort, which they described as worth millions of dollars, is an explicit warning to on-the-fence Republicans from one of the most influential players in electoral politics not to cross them.
.
The Koch-aligned networks oppose the bill because they think it does not do enough to scale back former President Barack Obama’s health care policies.

Four people, including a police officer, were killed and about 40 others were wounded Wednesday in a terrorist attack at Britain’s Parliament that sent crowds running for their lives before police shot and killed the attacker.
Police for several hours said the attacker had killed three people. Acting Deputy Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mark Rowley said Wednesday night that a fourth victim had died.
The victims included London Metropolitan Police Constable Keith Palmer, 48, a 15-year veteran who was a husband and a father, Rowley said. Palmer was stabbed at the House of Commons and died despite the efforts of doctors and a passing government minister to save him.

A friend of the Charleston gunman who killed nine worshippers at an African-American church has been jailed for lying to police about the tragedy.
Before his sentencing, 22-year-old Joey Meek tearfully told the court he was not sure if he would survive in prison.
“I’m really, really sorry. A lot of beautiful lives were taken,” he told bereaved relatives gathered in court.
His friend, Dylan Roof,f killed nine worshippers during a Bible study in a church in South Carolina.
Meek pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI and failure to report a crime.
“I don’t know if I’ll make it out of prison alive. I’m scared,” he added before the federal judge handed down his sentence of more than two years.

The Dow fell by about 238 points Tuesday, a drop of more than 1%. It was its biggest slide of the year and biggest decline since the election. The broader S&P 500 was also down more than 1%.
Neither index had ended the day with a 1% drop since mid-October. This was their worst day since September.
The Nasdaq, which includes many hot tech stocks such as Apple (AAPL, Tech30), Facebook (FB, Tech30) and Amazon (AMZN, Tech30), fell nearly 2%.
This recent market weakness seems to be a sign that the market tone has shifted to a more negative one, at least temporarily.

Listen up, all you wild-eyed Republicans pressing for transgender bathroom bills in the name of protecting vulnerable women and children from assault. Look among your own ranks and you’ll find quite a few who have posed a danger to kids. In the last three weeks alone, two key GOP spokesmen have been busted for advocating man-on-boy sex. By contrast, there has not been a single reported instance of a transgender person harassing a non-transgender person in a public restroom e.
The latest GOP black eye involves one of Trump’s earliest campaign supporters and Oklahoma county coordinators. Married-with-children Ralph Shortey was released yesterday on $100,000 bail after getting caught with a 17-year-old male, an open packet of condoms and a bottle of lotion in a Super 8 hotel, 936 feet from the First Christian Church. The family values legislator is charged with three felonies: engaging in child prostitution, knowingly engaging in prostitution within 1,000 feet of a church and transporting a minor for prostitution/lewdness. Of course, in the American legal system, he is innocent until proven guilty.
That said, it’s going to be mighty tough for Shortey to explain away sending a text to a youth who offers to pay for prior to taking the boy to a local .

Chamroeun Phan grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota, and, by all measures, isn’t a menacing guy. At 34, he’s slight of build, a brown-skinned Cambodian-American who wears a long black ponytail, rocks Milwaukee Brewers baseball caps, and has an affinity for flyfishing in the summer. His friends nicknamed him “Shorty,” and for four years he worked as a repair engineer at a local technology company that specializes in making equipment that businesses use to make everyday transactions — barcode scanners, mostly.
The one big blemish on Phan’s record is the night in 2009, when he broke three windows at a bar that he often went to play poker with his then-fiancé and six older brothers and sisters. Even the bar’s owner said that he was a “great person” but had “a little too much to drink.” Still, Phan was charged with felony first-degree damage. He spent 40 days in jail, and then moved on.
But, seven years later on Aug. 28, 2016, Phan was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials. His time in jail had made him a “criminal alien,” and he suddenly found himself being threatened with deportation back to a country that he’s never seen. So far, he’s spent more than 200 days in detention — five times the amount of time he spent for breaking the bar’s windows.

The United States is giving nine airlines until Saturday morning to make sure that passengers on flights from 10 overseas airports aren’t carrying any electronic devices larger than smartphones with them.
A senior Trump administration official said the airlines are being given 96 hours to fully implement the rules, starting 3 a.m. ET Tuesday, because “evaluated intelligence indicates that terror groups continue to target aviation, to include smuggling explosives in electronic devices.”
Officials wouldn’t say how long the restrictions will be in place.
