Leon Russell, the songwriter behind some of rock music’s top hits like “A Song For You” and “Delta Lady,” has died. He was 74.
Russell’s official website confirmed that the musician “passed away in his sleep” in Nashville on Sunday.
Though an official cause of death has not been released, Russell underwent surgery after suffering a heart attack this past July and was reportedly still in recovery, according to The Associated Press. In 2010, he was also treated for heart failure and underwent surgery for a brain fluid leak.
The AP noted that Russell had planned to continue touring in January, citing a representative for the musician.

Being transgender used to be the kind of thing that could make a modeling career come tumbling down.
There was Vogue model April Ashley, whose career abruptly ended in 1961 after being outed by a friend. Then there was Tracey “Africa” Norman, who modeled for Italian Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar and was outed in the early 1980s, signaling the end of her career as well.
Times have thankfully changed. Not only is Norman back in the spotlight but there is now a new league of people who are trans and killing the modeling game. Hell, there’s even a modeling agency, called Slay Management, specifically for trans models.
To get a peek into this ever-growing industry, Mic spoke with a number of trans models working today. Here, seven models — including Laith Ashley De La Cruz, Isis King, Arisce Wanzer and Dominique Jackson, who are signed to Slay and star in the trans modeling TV show Strut — speak about what they hope to achieve in 2017, and how the progress thus far in the trans modeling industry is helping them achieve those dreams.

Back in 2001, when Alicia Keys first burst onto the scene, few would have likely been able to predict she’d be the one to drop the most woke political track of 2016. But here we are, in the midst of one of the most trying election cycles in history, with Keys ready to wage a “Holy War” to get our society to face its most uncomfortable internal contradictions.
“If war is holy, and sex is obscene,” Keys sings in the opening lines of her new acoustic ballad, “We’ve got it twisted in this lucid dream.”

Few living artists have been as deeply mythologized as Bob Dylan — and few artists seemed to have despised it more.
Critics and authors have pinned him with nearly every grandiose title in the book, seemingly trying to match his fascinating folk poetry: “prophet,” “mystic,” “the 20th century’s Shakespeare.” But as much as our country tried to yoke him with the mantle of “spokesman” or the “voice of a generation,” Dylan always seemed to find away to slip out of it.
“You feel like an imposter when someone thinks you’re something and you’re not,” Dylan once told Ed Bradley in a 2004 60 Minutesinterview, decrying labels like “prophet” and “voice of a generation.” “You’re just not that person everybody thinks you are, though they call you that all the time. ‘You’re the prophet. You’re the savior.’ I never wanted to be a prophet or savior. Elvis maybe — I could easily see myself becoming him. But prophet? No.”
Born to a Lithuanian mother and American father, Akiane Kramarik grew up in rural Illinois, just outside Chicago. Around age 4, the young girl realized she had an interest in painting — and within just a few years, she would become one of the most well-known prodigies in the art world.
When Akiane began painting, she says she had begun experiencing visions that she was eager to express artistically. Once she did, people took notice, and the stunning realism and emotion in Akiane’s work led her to be featured on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” at age 10. As Akiane told Oprah back then, she believed her talent came from one place: God.
Akiane wasn’t raised with religion, but her visions and art felt truly divine. One of her most popular paintings at the time was a portrait of Jesus, which she painted at 8 years old. Today, Akiane is 21 and her works feature everything from people to animals to the abstract. As Akiane tells “Oprah: Where Are They Now?” her technique has indeed changed over the last decade.
