Here’s how a hijacked superbug could be made sensitive to drugs again.
As infectious bacteria become increasingly resistant to antibiotics, researchers are looking for new ways to combat the so-called ‘superbugs’ that are predicted to kill 300 million people by 2050 if we don’t find a solution.
And now a team of microbiologists at Tel Aviv University in Israel has devised a way for bacteria-killing viruses – known as phages – to make superbugs become sensitive to our antibiotics once more.

This year I’ve made it a point to learn my way around the kitchen (sometimes this turns out to be hilarious) but so far every meal I’ve attempted has turned out great and now I feel way more confident in my cooking style. In this post here I mentioned how my idea of hosting was putting a bunch of goldfish on a fancy platter… times have changed and now I can show off what I’ve learned!
Here’s 3 of my favorite recipes to make:
Pan Roasted Chicken Breast with Potatoes (total cook time 1 hour 5 minutes)
(My close friend Josanne gave me this recipe and I’ve got to share the wealth.)
Ingredients:
1 whole chicken
Olive Oil
4 tablespoons butter (may use olive oil in its place or butter substitute)
Culture, surfing, beach, friendly locals, exiting wildlife and great food – this place has them all! Located in the north-west of Africa, Morocco has much more to offer than what one might think. Head out to Agadir for the beach and into Marrakesh for a great city experience. At night, markets crowd every corner of Marrakesh and the scent of spices and grilled meat linger over the streets. Colourful stands with fabrics, teapots and sweets are joined together by sheer curtains hanging overhead to keep out the chill of the night. In the daytime I’d recommend to sit in the shade in a beautiful garden and try a traditional moroccan breakfast with pastries, bread, honey, tea, dried fruit and olives. Make sure you check out the mosques and the city – the architecture is marvellous!
The GOP-controlled House passed legislation Tuesday to cut Amtrak’s budget by $242 million, though lawmakers added new funding for video cameras inside locomotive cabs to record engineers and help investigators get to the bottom of crashes such as last month’s deadly derailment in Philadelphia.
Amtrak announced last month it is going to install the cameras after years of delays. The transportation and housing measure approved by a narrow 216-210 vote contains $9 million approved last week to fund the inward-facing camera initiative in the budget year starting in October.
Amtrak is among many domestic programs whose budgets are cut or frozen by the GOP measures, as automatic spending curbs known as sequestration are again hitting federal agencies after two years of relief. Previous House GOP attempts to cut Amtrak over the years have been reversed, and Tuesday’s transportation measure is but an opening move in a longer chess match with the White House over spending levels for agency operating budgets passed annually by Congress.
A Paralympic hopeful plans for running in Brazil next year are back on track after fans on the Internet got together to replace stolen prosthetics.
“It’s really good to be back running on my new leg and I’m enjoying every bit of it,” said athlete Paul Peterson.
Peterson, 22, had his first chance Tuesday to try his new prosthetic running legs after thieves on June 3 broke into his Charlotte, North Carolina, apartment and stole almost everything, including his competition medals and three of his custom-fit running blades.

When Miles Jai Thomas arrived at a party at the Craig Ranch North Community Pool in McKinney, Texas, on Friday night, he said the pool was open to everyone who’d been invited — until a security guard showed up and removed black partygoers from the area.
“Then he started making up rules to keep us out,” Thomas, 15, told The Huffington Post.
A white woman at the pool started making racist comments, Thomas said, such as telling black teens at the party to get used to the bars outside the pool because that’s all they were going to see.
Being a Melissa McCarthy fan, I must say, she didn’t let me down, Spy was great. I laughed all the way through the movie. Susan Cooper (Melissa McCarthy) is a trained spy, but works in the basement of the CIA HQ where there are bats in the ceiling and mice running all over the place. She is the trained eyes for her teammate Bradley Fine, (Jude Law) when he is in the field. She is secretly smitten with him and pines her life away hoping someday he will give her more than the time of day. She gets no respect from the higher ups and no prospect of ever getting out of her current work situation. Without giving away spoilers, the situation changes and Susan goes out into the field where she becomes a super spy. While there’s a lot of unbelievable stunts, Susan’s role takes on a new meaning…
If you were a fan of the HBO series, Entourage, then you will absolutely love this movie. If you were not a fan or never saw the series, you may still like Entourage but not as much. I was a huge fan of the series and I loved the movie. The liberties HBO took with the series was so remarkable and entertaining, I found myself each week wanting more. The sadist moment for me was when the series ended. The entourage is made up of 4 friends from Queens, NY who came to Los Angeles to make it on the movie scene. Actually, there is only one movie star on board, Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier), who is extremely good looking and charismatic. Also included is Vince’s half brother, Johnny “Drama” Chase (Kevin Dillon) who is also an actor but hardly a star and also likes to cook. Eric “E” Murphy…
