The NFL has determined that the New England Patriots used deflated footballs during its win over the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship game on Sunday night, according to multiple reports.
Both ESPN and The Boston Globe reported late Tuesday that 11 of the 12 footballs used by the Patriots in the 45-7 victory were under-inflated. While league rules require footballs to be inflated to between 12.5 and 13.5 pounds per square inch, ESPN reported that the game balls were 2 pounds short.
However, NFL executive vice president for football operations Troy Vincent told The Associated Press the “investigation is currently underway and we’re still awaiting findings.”

Is a strange speck of light on Mars evidence of intelligent life on the Red Planet?
That’s what some are asking after what appears to be a bright white beam of light shining from behind the Martian dunes showed up in images taken by NASA’s Curiosity rover.
Scott Waring of the website UFO Sightings Daily noticed the mysterious spot in a photo taken by the rover on April 3, or sol 589 (a sol is a day on Mars).

Ah, the weekend. Many of us who work long hours during the week may see the weekend as an opportunity to “catch up” on some rest by sleeping in. But is it really possible to recover from sleep loss by finding time later to snooze, and does it do the mind and body any good?
For starters, a study published in the current issue of the American Journal of Physiology-Endocrinology and Metabolism suggests that using your weekend to sleep in actually doesn’t fix all the damage caused by missing out on some slumber during the week.
“The major take away message is that extended sleep helps, but only to some extent,” study co-author Dr. Alexandros Vgontzas, professor at Penn State University’s Hershey Sleep Research & Treatment Center, told The Huffington Post in an email. “The repeated cycle of restriction/recovery may be harmful to your health in the long run.

Then, just as quickly as the 6-foot-tall frozen beast surfaced, it vanished — until now.
Earlier this year, Steve Busti — owner of the Museum of the Weird in Austin, Texas — bought the ice man from the family of its original owner in Minnesota. He’s going to once again reveal the ape-like creature to the world starting July 3 at his museum.
Before his big purchase, Busti spent the last two years researching the Minnesota Iceman and trying to pin down its location. He found that the original exhibitor, Frank Hansen, had it in a freezer at his home for decades after its last showing. It’s still unclear why the big, hairy popsicle’s tour abruptly ended.
Somehow, Hansen managed to keep Mr. Freeze out of the public eye until he died about 10 years ago. Busti also learned that rumors of the Minnesota Iceman being discovered in Siberia were untrue.

In the 1960s, the “Minnesota Iceman” was paraded from mall to fairground, leaving rumors of Bigfoot, missing links and government conspiracy in its wake.

Biologists briefly brought the extinct Pyrenean ibex back to life in 2003 by creating a clone from a frozen tissue sample harvested before the goat’s entire population vanished in 2000. The clone survived just seven minutes after birth, but it gave scientists hope that “de-extinction,” once a pipedream, could become a reality.
Ten years later, a group of researchers and conservationists gathered in Washington, D.C., today (March 15) for a forum called TEDxDeExtinction, hosted by the National Geographic Society, to talk about how to revive extinct animals, from the Tasmanian tiger and the saber-toothed tiger to the woolly mammoth and the North American passenger pigeon.

This photo shows a museum worker inspecting a replica of a woolly mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius), a relative of modern elephants that went extinct 3,000 to 10,000 years ago.

The disc-shaped object is first seen entering the upper left portion of the video as the fireworks erupt over the stadium. The UFO — which appears to have a dome or bulge rising from its center — moves slowly across the sky as if deliberately observing the light-show spectacle below it.
