Nine days after 9/11, George W. Bush declared during an address to a joint session of Congress that every nation now “has a decision to make,” that “either you are with us or with the terrorists.” Jihadists saw his statement as a gift from God. They argued that with this line drawn in the sand, members of the Muslim community now had a clear view of the parade of sellouts, hypocrites and “white-washed” Muslims among them. It would be obvious who was on the side of the Muslim community and who, as ISIS wrote in the seventh issue of its English-language magazine Dabiq, would rush “to serve the crusaders led by Bush in the war against Islam.”
According to jihadists, this opportunity to unearth the true Muslims, those who had the community’s back and those who didn’t, was a gift from above. As Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden claimed at the time in an interview, which was also later reproduced in the same Dabiq article, this line in the sand basically meant that “either you are with the crusade or you are with Islam.”
.

The president has given terrorist groups a propaganda victory beyond their wildest dreams.

Day one of Donald Trump’s America came with countless acts of hate that were carried out by his supporters against several of the country’s most marginalized groups.
Day two was no different, nor the days following.
Since Election Day, there have been more than 200 acts of election-related intimidation and harassment across the U.S., according to a survey by the Southern Poverty Law Center. People from all types of communities ― black, Latino, Muslim, Jewish, Asian, queer people, women ― have been physically harmed, slandered with hate speech or been the targets of racist graffiti.
While we shouldn’t have to live in fear for our safety, Trump supporters feel more emboldened than ever to express their disdain for those they dislike or don’t think matter. It’s highly likely these disturbing acts will continue, so instead of ignoring this new reality, it’s important, now more than ever, for America to stand unified and share a message of intolerance against these attacks.

Wheaton College, an evangelical Christian school, has suspended a political science professor who vowed earlier this week to wear a hijab to work during the Advent to stand in religious solidarity with Muslims.
The college, based in the Chicago suburbs, said it placed Associate Professor of Political Science Dr. Larycia Hawkins on administrative leave because of “significant questions regarding the theological implications of statements” she made about Islam and Christianity.
The statement Tuesday did not refer to the professor’s vow to wear a hijab, but said faculty and staff must “speak about public issues in ways that faithfully represent the College’s evangelical Statement of Faith.”

The Nigerian militant group Boko Haram has pledged official allegiance to ISIS, according to an audio statement released online Saturday. In the audio, a man claiming to be Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau appears to address ISIS leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, and also calls on Muslims throughout the world to declare a similar loyalty.
The message, posted via Boko Haram social media accounts, was confirmed by Flashpoint Intelligence, a global security firm and NBC News consultant. According to Flashpoint, the audio confirms what many analysts have said would happen: a bridging between Boko Haram and ISIS. Boko Haram is also following ISIS’s trend of releasing messages online and mimicking the terror network’s propaganda.
The announcement comes after five bomb blasts rocked the Nigerian city of Maiduguri on Saturday, killing at least 54 people and wounding 143 others in Boko Haram’s northeastern heartland.

Alicia Keys’ visit to Israel for her July 4 concert in Tel Aviv elicited controversy. Many had wanted her to cancel her performance because they believe Israel is a racist, “apartheid state.” The notion that Israel is an apartheid state is completely absurd. In Israel, there are no laws that relegate any racial group to second-class citizenship. Israelis, whether they are white or black, Jewish, Christian, Muslim or anything else, have the right to vote and have freedom of speech, press, religion, etc. In fact, Israel is the only nation in the Middle East where Christians, Muslims and Jews have complete freedom of religion.
